PRODUCTION HISTORY
ANNIE GET YOUR GUN opened on Broadway May 16, 1946 at the Imperial Theatre. The
production was produced by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II and ran for 1,147
performances. Directed by Joshua Logan; choreography by Helen Tamiris; musical direction
by Jay S. Blackton; scenery and lighting by Jo Mielziner; costumes by Lucinda Ballard;
orchestrations by Philip J. Lang; Robert Russell Bennett and Ted Royal; starring Ethel
Merman and Ray Middleton.
A revival of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN opened on May 31, 1966 at the New York State Theater
under auspices of Music Theater of Lincoln Center. Directed by Jack Sydow; choreography by
Danny Daniels; musical direction by Franz Allers; scenery by Paul C. McGuire; costumes by
Frank Thompson; lighting by Peter Hunt; orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett and Bruce
Yarnell. For this production Irving Berlin wrote one new number while minor book revisions
by Herbert and Dorothy Fields included the elimination of two secondary characters, their
songs and ensuing romance. It is that revised version of the musical that has been
available for production since and is contained herein.
