Prepare to be inspired

Polaris

The art and literature magazine of Toms River High School North

__________________________________________________________________________________

What is Polaris?

Polaris is a magazine that is published at least once a year, and contains original poetry, short stories, art, and photography submitted by the students of Toms River High School North. All genres of poetry and stories are welcome. Students can submit poetry directly to the advisor or the editors, or they can submit anonymously.

Polaris Coffee Shop Nights

In addition to designing and editing the magazine, the staff of Polaris presents Coffee Shop shows each year. The shows feature students reading original poetry and short stories, as well as students performing music. Coffee, drinks and food are also served. Each year we produce three to four shows, and each show has a different theme. The money raised during our February show typically goes to charity.

Jobs / Positions within the club

We will be looking for people to fill the following positions this year:

- creative people to help design and maintain the bulletin board

- poetry and art critiques

- event assistants and performers

- production staff members who would help design the magazine

Meetings / Schedule

We meet every Monday in C-04. When we move closer to our print date, we meet more frequently. During meetings, we will read and review submissions, and type and scan submissions into our computer. Our magazines will contain submissions from the staff members of Polaris, as well as submissions from the students of Toms River High School North who are not members of the club.

Procedures

Meetings are serious gatherings in which submissions are reviewed and discussed. The meetings are not "hang-outs" or social mixers. Cell phones or other electronics (game devices, iPods) are frowned upon during the meeting. Students who do not take the meetings seriously will be asked to leave.

Final Thought

The Polaris magazine has won national awards, and has been a proud tradition at North for many years. We hope to continue the tradition this year, and we would like you to be a part of it. With your help, we can make the 2008-2009 school year a great year for Polaris !!!!!!!!!! If you have any questions, contact us at trnpolaris@yahoo.com,  or check back to this site.

Thank you,
