Trinity is a somewhat lazy, gun toting cowboy from the 1870's. Worried that he might be confused with the real Trinity (sometimes called the right hand of the devil because of his speed with his revolver), he decided that he should have another moniker. A friend decided that, because he sometimes partakes of his coffee with a little chicory added, he should henceforth be known as Chicory Kid. --------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is Cowboy Action Shooting?
Cowboy Action Shooting is a shooting sport. But, it's more than just some guys getting together shooting guns for competition. It's about guys and gals getting together, enjoying a common interest in days gone by, and shooting a bunch of old west era guns for FUN. To add to the fun, everyone chooses an alias under which to shoot. It can be something as fun as a favorite western movie star or character or maybe even a real historical name. Whatever tickles your fancy. In my case, I chose Trinity because I love those movies. Sadly, it was already taken, so some friends signed me up as Chicory Kid as a joke, thinking I would change it. Well, I like it and ain't gonna change it. I have always been a fan of Westerns and a few years ago, I visited a gun store and purchased a the store's only used replica of a Colt Single Action Army revolver (the quintessential cowboy gun), which was chambered in .38/.357. While looking on the internet to learn more about the manufacturer, found a great many references to an odd sounding sport of Cowboy Action Shooting. It seemed almost like a dream come true. I looked at a few sites and decided that it was something for me. I looked further and found that a match was coming up near me the next weekend. That Saturday, my revolver and I climbed into the car and drove the hour and a half to the range where I quickly learned that I should have read more. Being on a budget forced me to sit out the action for a few years while I built my "arsenal". I must say, however, that there are many fine folks who are more than willing to loan their equipment to newbies. After all, everyone was also new to the sport once. A Cowboy Action Shooting match is made up of several "stages". In each stage a person will typically shoot two revolvers, one rifle/carbine and one shotgun. The stage can be written simply so that you just stand and shoot or rather elaborately which can include props and of course... "action"... moving to different spots to fire at different targets. The targets are all reactive steel targets which make a nice sound when you strike them (and no sound if you miss
