Background
Mrs. Gomez received her Child Development Associate at Schoolcraft College. She also has additional classes in learning disabilities and children with special needs. Mrs. Gomez has 10 years experience teaching at the Taylor Parents Cooperative Preschool and the Dearborn Village Cooperative Preschool. Through the years she has taught catechism at both St. Cyril (currently Our Lady of Angels) and St. Constance Catholic churches in Taylor.
Believing in the importance of a cooperative preschool from the beginning, Mrs. Gomez joined the Taylor Cooperative Preschool as a parent in 1982 with her first child.
Teaching Techniques
As a preschool teacher, Mrs. Gomez' first and foremost goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment. Her teaching techniques promote self-esteem, self-confidence and self-expression. Preschool should be a fun experience filled with social interactions, age appropriate learning experiences and plenty of encouragement. She introduces and reinforces the alphabet, numbers, counting, colors, shapes and calendar work through projects and games. Mrs. Gomez believes that play is an important element in preschool. Through play, a child learns cooperation, sharing, problem-solving, independence, balance, gravity, eye-hand coordination, logical thinking and creativity to name a few. The learning experience is a blend of traditional classroom and extracurricular activities such as field trips and speakers. Field trips in the past have been to a dentist's office, Erie Metro Park, an apple orchard, a pumpkin patch, and a grocery store. Previous guest speakers have included a hygienist, veterinarian, fireman and nurse. Children look forward to the holidays and special theme days which are celebrated with exciting parties and activities. Mrs. Gomez plans the program based upon her training and experiences, but actively seeks and incorporates parental suggestions.
We hope the Trenton Cooperative Nursery will be the choice for your child's first school experience. It is our belief that the time your family spends at our school will be valuable to your child's development.
