Tremont Downtown to Take Big Hit
Tri-Valley Pharmacy to Close in Tremont
The Tri-Valley Pharmacy has announced plans to close the tremont branch of compnay. Tri-Valley Pharmacy has locations in Valley View, Pine Grove, and Tremont. The decision to close the location came after Tri-Valley purchased the building next to the old Tremont Theater to relocate to, but from this point on all things went wrong.
Once engineers reviewed the building several code violations and structural deficiencies were found. The costs of repair are upwards of $175,000.00, a cost that Tri-Valley Pharmacy could not afford to put into a building they purchased for $30,000.00. The building, now vacant, was the location of the Tremont Senior Center, but that has since relocated to the Tremont Municipal Building on Clay Street. There is no word on what the pharmacy will do with the virtually useless structure, but it is certain that the company will not occupy it.
When the Tri-Valley Pharmacy closes, location next to the Tremont Post Office,it will greatly effect many of the residents of Tremont. It will undoubta
bly lead to the inconvienience of hundreds of people, young and old. Furthermore the closure will lead to a major void in Tremont's already weak economy and downtown environment. No other stores in Tremont sell perscription and over-the-counter medications, thus this will be a major blow to the town's aging population. Also, the closing of the Tremont branch may lead to a decrease of shopping in other stores across the borough.
In response to the future closure, the Tremont Borough Council working on resolving the heavily criticized plan by Tri-Valley Pharmacy. Of the ideas, the borough has proposed providing the pharmacy with a location to do business in town. Tri-Valley has had no comment publicly to his idea. Furthermore, when, and if, the Tri-Valley Pharmacy leaves Tremont it could be speculated that another pharmacy could fill its place, but that is only speculation.
Finally, it can be said that whatever the outcome of this dilemma, Tremont's economy will not be that same. The closure would cause irrepareable damage and a massive hole in the community. Tremont is definitly enduring some very hard times.
