Review

One of my favourite shows due to the fact it has Tony Parsons and the rarely recorded Doug Sampson playing. This show gives a great insight into what Maiden were like before EMI signed them. The songs have a raw feeling to them and the tempo of the songs is slower than what we have come to expect. This version includes Innocent Exile which sadly has the intro cut off.

The quality of the recording I think for a 1979 unsigned band is pretty good, certainly very listenable. This would be in my top ten due to the fact it showcases many songs from the first two albums in their earliest available live recordings.

A real gem, a recording of Maiden at the infamous Ruskin Arms. This is an awesome show and shows why EMI signed them a few months later. A great set list, lots of energy, great crowd, great to hear the songs in their pre recorded light, especially The Ides Of March and Innocent Exile.

Review:

The first recorded show to feature the line up who recorded the debut album. This show was played to promote the forthcoming album as every track of it was played. The sound quality is good due to Laurent's transfer froma tape also my editing has made the show more listenable. Strange World has a tiny skip and Iron Maiden has been patched so we now have the complete song. That aside the band give a good performance aside from Paul who has problems with his voice which starts to tell towards the end of the show. As a result Transylvania is the only encore. The line where Paul says 'One of the road crew, get me a treble whisky or something, for fuck's sake' is classic Paul!

Review:

This is one of the must have shows in your cd collection. Days after the Edinburgh gig which Paul was clearly suffering with Steve helps out by taking vocal duties on Prowler, Running Free and Iron Maiden! This alone gives this concert a unique vibe.

However, 'Arry's voice isn't the best (sorry Steve) but it great to hear the main man singing a few tunes. The band apologise a lot about the lack of vocals and promise to come back and play a full show, the crowd don't seem to mind, really getting into the show.

The sound quality isn't the best (make sure you get the revisited version which has the best sound) but the fact you get Steve singing gets you past this as it such a unique event. Strange World has a cut and splice as does Iron Maiden and I've Got The Fire is only the first minute but to me this a treasured show from a young and hungry band who shouldn't have played but did the best job they could under the circumstances.

Review:

Another must have show for two reasons, first off it is Maiden's earliest recorded foreign show and secondly the set list is probably the most adventurous Maiden have ever played notably performing I've Got The Fire 4th song in! and a Murray/Stratton solo during a short set!

Due to my remastering of duplicating the good audio channel from the original recording this is a very clear and listenable show and another one of my favourites from the era. Sadly Drifter is cut and Wrathchild fades in which is a really pity given the quality and importance of the show.

Review:

Needs no introduction as a collector of Maiden boots you have the official Early Days DVD don't you? Anyway this is not for trade but is a rare jewel in the crown for us collectors. This showcases Maiden doing a charity gig at their 'home' not long after breaking into the big time complete with Neal Kaye intro!

What I love about this show above all others from this tour is the dialogue between songs, Paul making mentions to people in the crowd e.g. "the boys from Wimbledon wherever they are, ah yes should have known" and the banter from Dennis Stratton, paarticularly the bit where he asks Paul's Mum if it's alright for him to swear! and also Paul blagging a beer late on in the show.

Anyway those of you who have seen the video know the show was a sweatbox and the boys played a blinder, I do like Dennis's backing vocals on this show they really do add something to the songs which IMHO has never been repeated since. There is the odd glitch and Paul comes in too early after the added bit missing from the Sanctuary single but what the hell! The biggest criticism is that the show finishes after Charlotte with Iron Maiden and presumably Drifter missing but that aside a killer boot.

Review:

Make sure you get the Neil D version (best one), this is a good recording from the era with the band sounding fairly clear and all instruments audible. The setlist is fairly standard for the era but Maiden play well on the night with the Cornish crowd clearly up for it.

No major suprises here the only thing to point out is the intro cuts in and Phantom Of The Opera ends abruptly. What I do like is that before Iron Maiden Paul makes a mention to the support band, Praying Mantis, which of course he and Dennis would later feature in as did Clive Burr for a stint.
