Building Muscle

I went to be measured again at CURVES this morning.  According to Melissa the owner of CURVES where I go, I am doing fine.  She took my measurements again.  To my suprise it was a small decrease.  I only lost 1/2" off my abdomen since last measure and 1 pound more off my weight.  I felt like it would be more.  My clothes have felt more comfortable.

According to Melissa, you hit plateaus in reducing and you begin to build muscle doing  CURVES workouts.  So, I need to increase my PROTEIN and on my days I don't do curves, I need to do a cardio activity.  She suggested 15 min-20 min of biking (or 1 mile) or to try walking in my neighborhood or some other cardio activity that soots me.  Currently I go to curves 3 times per week for 30 mins. each time (or twice around on the machines).  On Saturdays I do a double workout (4 times around.)

I'm really going to make the effort and lets see what happens in September when I measure again!  C U - we'll be talking!!

Excited about the Measurements!!

I stopped in at CURVES this morning to be measured.  It's always good to have the same person measure you.  In one month I have lost 1 1/2" off my waist, 1/2" off my abdomen, 1/2" off my hips, 1" off my arms and 6 1/2 lbs of weight.  Do you THINK its working?  hehe

Seriously, I'm very happy about it.  I'm dedicated to keeping on.

Guess the Curves Is Working For Me

I joined  Curves on June 18, 2009 and today is July 16, 2009.  One month in this exercise routine and doing my  WW program.  I've lost 7.8 lbs. in a month.  Lets see how the measuring goes Friday.  Curves will measure you once a month and tell you what inches you've lost!

Almost 10 !

Today I reached 9.2 lbs. off since January.  I know by some people's standards that's a long time spent to lose weight.  It is by my standards too!  I just have been yo-yoing alot.  I've been using my Curves and I'm going to start biking too.  I have to get ready to bike 10 miles in September.  I know I can do it.   I need to train some though.  It's been a while since I biked that much.   How do I feel today?  I'm proud of the weightloss.  Proud I didn't give up.  I'm trying different avenues to lose it.

I decided to continue my e-tools and write my weight in my booklet every Monday!  I will succeed if I don't give up!

Ten pounds off next week - I am counting on it!

Really Fun

I am liking the Curves place.  I really can't wait to go at the end of the day.  I joined for a year, so I better get using it as much as possible.  There's not many people there at the time I go.  I usually have 1 or 2 people to talk to.  There are contests and games too.  They're not for big prizes or anything, just things like getting your name drawn out of a dish that you've added it to for answering a question in a game correctly and getting it posted on the Curves wall.  I take approximately 30-45 mins. there and then go home.  Remember I work two jobs, so its a long day and once I go home I don't really want to go anywhere else, so exercising right after work is right for me.

Made it to the 240's

Making A Change

Hi All -

Since Jan. 2009, I have been going to WW meeting and using etools online and I have lost 8 lbs.  I don't call that real great!  I decided since my WW leader couldn't give me 5 minutes of her time with a question the other day, that I need to try something different.  My new plan:

I am joining Curves after work today and going 3-4 times a week.  I also am going to incorporate protein shakes into my a.m. routine to tied me over when I start my early day at the airport. (3 am.)  I want to see inches LOST and never found again.  Wish me luck!

Goodbye 250's

I'm finally below 250.  I've been yo-yoing.  I hope to stay there.  That is the trick!!

One of My Favorite Things

Posted at 01:57 PM on May 27, 2009 Comments comments (0)

I love this time of year because I can get out in my gardens and work on them.  I like digging in the dirt and planting things.  I made 2 Square Foot Gardens last week and I've been filling them with soil and nutrients and preparing flower beds.  I haven't officially planted my vegetables yet, but just the preparations alone make me happy!  I'm happiest when I can spend a beautiful 70 degree day outside all day doing just that.  I take my WATER outside with me.  I'm bending, digging, pulling.  All great EXERCISE, right?  So, I am couting it as exercise.  I know it is true exercise because I ate alot this Memorial weekend and I was off-program.  I enjoyed the local wines and I ate out at restaurants, but when I returned from my trip and holiday, I GOT BUSY and I worked alot of calories off.  The scale only reflected a 1 lb. gain over the entire holiday.  I consider that GOOD.  I am happy. I know I worked hard outside.  So, never discount exercise that you may feel is trivial.  Do something you love and make it fun exercise at the same time.  Run after the kids on the playground.  Play tag with them.  Ride bikes as a family.  You are still burning calories in the process!  Ta Ta.

What Women Do

I had a chat with my sister last night on the phone.  We really both needed that conversation.  Which leads me to, "why do we do so much".  We really over extend ourselves sometimes to our own detriment.  I think it's because we're so highly motivated!  We want to succeed!  We want to do it all ourselves!  As women we need to remember to care for our bodies and rest and  take breaks and sit in a chair once in a while and be a spectator too sometimes.  I love my sister and she is "driven", I am "driven".  Sometimes we have to have a reality check and get our minds reset, so we don't do too much!  We both were experiencing overload.  Do you experience overload?  What do you do when it happens?  I know I begin to deligate and I start saying "no".  That nasty word, but very necessary sometimes.  Be kind to yourself.  I'm not saying don't work hard.  We all have to, just that you'd be kind to others so why not yourself!!

"F" is for

Let's see:

1) Failure - feeling like I'll never lose this weight!

2) Foolish - you keep having to do things over and over, because you just CAN"T seem to get it right.

3) Fat - what I feel on my body.

4) Flipping Out - what I feel like doing sometimes.

Well, I have all the tools, but I still am having trouble succeeding.  I know its going to be an extra long road for me.  My jobs don't help and sometimes I just want to spend a whole lot of money and try NutraSystem or Isogenics or Jenny Craig.  The problem is my practical side tells me that losing fast is not going to work.  If I lose too quickly that weight will just come back ON when I go back to eating regular food.  I am going to be 46 yrs. old this year.  I want this to be the year I succeed.  Any comments, anyone?

Busy Day

The Walk A Thon was great yesterday!  I was getting tired around the second lap and the sun was starting to beat, I was thinking "just one more time around" and then the announcer said, "that was the end of the laps".  Whew!  What a beautiful morning to walk!  The weather was great, I ran into my neighbor there and since I had no partner to walk with we walked together.

I'm definitely doing another 5k this summer.  I raised $70.00 for the Arthritis Foundation.

Today I bought some flowers and top soil, can't wait to plant tomorrow!  Also, I took a long ride in the country.  Had dinner with friends out at Panera Bread.  Couldn't ask for a better day.

Exercise is Hard for me now

Posted at 11:09 AM on May 08, 2009 Comments comments (1)

I was trying to exercise in the morning before I went to my first job.  But it seems that's not very doable for me. By the end of the day - I'm wiped out!  I'm getting up way to early for something like that.  I work PT as a Security Officer at an airport, so most days I'm up at 1:30 or 2:00 a.m. to either make the coffee and read my bible or to exercise before work.  My morning at work is 4 am - 8 am.  Then I put in a FT shift at a second job from 8:30 -  4:30 pm. I really need a more sedentary morning!  I will stick to the bible reading and coffee now.  I'm going to try exercise on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.  I don't get up early on Friday and Saturday, so I can do the exercise first thing when I'm up those days.  Do you think that'll work better?  What would you do with a schedule like that?  I have to make this a lifestyle for myself and my lifestyle is two jobs and isn't changing anytime soon.
