Thank You!

As soon as Tour de Presteigne 2008 was over, people started asking “when’s the next one”. Last year nobody would have dreamt of asking me anything except “Hadn't you better change into some dry clothes?”

We have definitely made progress. The weather held out on the Saturday and positively beamed down on the Sunday. There was a great turn out of bikes from the dealers and suppliers, a constant stream of interested visitors, a good selection of recumbent bikes, electric cars and other weird vehicles and on the Sunday the middle of town had a real party air.

I must thank Alison Parry, Andrew Grayland, Dave Thomlinson and Phil Key for all the work and encouragement that made it possible and of course all the volunteers in town who marshalled the event so gracefully, counted the laps, scrutineered,  put up signs and allowed me to close the roads.

Thanks also to Ian Marchant, the compere, who did his usual hilarious commentary, plus a special thanks to the entrants and exhibitors who came from far and wide and really joined in the spirit of the event.

If by any chance you weren't there you missed a good one, but just look at the pictures of the event in the Photo Gallery and you'll see what I mean.

As soon as we have any information about next year, we will let you know!

Thanks
Pete Mustill

There is also a mouth watering selection of events and talks around town for you to take part in and even the entertainment we've laid on looks pretty impressive. This year's Rally is aimed not just at amateur electric bike enthusiasts and those wishing to purchase an electric bike, but everyone who is unhappy about being dependent on their gas guzzler and is looking for alternatives.
We are particularly delighted with the line up for 'Question Time' in the Assembly Rooms on Saturday afternoon which will feature George Marshall, the author of Carbon Detox, as well as co-founder of Plane Stupid and local hero Joss Garman.

The main festival site will make use of a large geodesic dome to provide plenty of covered space for exhibitors and this will be situated on a quiet cul-de-sac that has plenty of hard-standing on which the public can try out bikes.  The hill climb and country ramble will set off from the festival site, and last but not least the final 1 hour rally on the Sunday will return to the very popular route it used in 2006 around the centre of town.
