ROUND

ONE

It was a mixed bag of results in the first round of the Jim Pearson Cup this weekend, with many games going as expected, but as always a few surprises were dished up, the biggest being by the Tadburn duo, the Panthers dumped out table topping Alresford Town thanks to a solitary goal from Matt Jocelyn and to cap a great weekend for the boys from Romsey, the Cougars thrashed BA Juniors 6-1, Elliot Mitchell-Lee bagging four. Fawley Falcons left their League form behind as they won a fiercely contested affair with S &D, the only goal of the game coming from a Matthew Avery pile driver.  Lowly Winsor also earned a place in the second round with an extra time win over Pace Cougars courtesy of a Ben Conway brace. Earls Sam Chandler was the hero in another tightly fought affair, where his goal was enough to book a passage through to the second round at the expense of Bashley Tigers.  Bashley did however see one of their teams proceed to the next round as the Vipers duly saw off Littleton Lions by four clear goals, including a hat-trick from Owen Fee .It was also a mixed day for Bitterne Terriers, where the Blues went down 3-0 to Southside whilst the Reds ran out convincing 6-0 victors over Marchwood Rangers, Liam Peeress weighing in with four goals.  It was no such luck for AFC Hiltingbury where the Reds came up against the strong Eastleigh side who hammered nine without reply.  The tally included a Cameron Thomas hat-trick and even a goal from the keeper.  The Blues from Hiltingbury put up a much sterner defence only losing out to a single Sean Wilson strike for Oakwood Tigers. Both teams from Winchester winged it into the hat for the second round, the Eagles dispensing with Sportstars Green by a 5-0 margin which included a Rafferty Tellet hat-trick, whilst the Hawks continued to show improved form with a 5-0 victory over Granley Rovers Blue, Ben Cawston grabbing a brace for the Hawks.  A miserable day was completed for Granley as the Reds were blown away by a Daniel Gaudreau double brace for Totton Rangers White. Warsash Wasps are settling nicely into their first season in the U8 section as both teams sailed into the second round with good victories over Wyvern Devils and St Francis Rovers. Joe Dartmouth netted all four goals in the Blue Wasps win over the Devils, whilst Owen Kew notched a hat-trick for the second week running as the Red Wasps stung the Rovers into submission with six of the best. It was a similar story for Hedge End as first the Rhinos charged past Baddesley Park by a 5-1 margin, then the Nimrods squeezed by Totton Rangers Blue by the odd goal in three. Two all Yellow League encounters, saw both Hythe sides come out on top,  the Jets narrowly beating Pace Pumas whilst the Harriers continued their high scoring exploits, thumping Weston Sports 7-0, Harrison Fay doing most damage with four goals. Former Pompey goal-getter, Lee Bradbury may be sidelined at present for Southend through injury but son Harvey has kept the family name in headlines, banging in a hat-trick for Sportstars Red in their 5-1 win over Townhill Emperors.  Another hat-trick headliner was Zak Miles of Colden Common A, who ran out comfortable 7-0 victors over the young Hillcrest Stokes.  Tom Bowden’s brace for Wyvern Saints was enough to ensure that the Commoners B team did not join their A side in the next round. It took extra time to separate Hillcrest Red and Hamble, but a Harry Tunner brace eventually saw Hillcrest through. St Francis Knights had a Liam Doyle brace to thank for in their win over Hythe Strikers and Christopher Bucket performed a similar feat to enable Littleton Leopards to overcome Oakwood Lions.

ROUND 1

Report by

Paul Stickland

We started our cup campaign with great style and the passing looked good 1st half, Stephen looking confident and coming out of his box to clear the danger at least once was nice to see. Jordan played well being first to every thing, Harvey and Callum worked hard in midfield playing good passing football with Dan up front who was back to his old self slotting away four well taken goals adding to a thunderbolt of a goal scored by Harvey. HALF TIME : 0 - 5 . Substitutions at half time - (Daniel, Harvey, Jordan Off - Charlie, Craig, Ross ON) 2nd half : Charlie cleared everything following on from Jordan, Ross and Craig did a lot of running, passing was good at times with Ross breaking through to score the only goal of the 2nd half - FULL TIME : 0 - 6 ……………a good performance by all and a good win.

ROUND 1

Report by

Derek Darling

The boys started well driving forward with a screamer from Nick going just wide. We continued to pressure the opposition when Tom just failed to connect in front of goal. The breakthrough came midway through the first half when Ryan received the ball on the edge of the box, he went around the first challenge, nutmegged the second before hammering the ball into the top right-hand corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. HALF TIME 1 - 0. Second half they came back strong and soon equalised. We put in a tremendous effort with everyone playing well but with only minutes left to extra time they scored their second goal. We threw everyone forward in the dying seconds but it was not to be. FULL TIME 1 - 2. A good performance by all and disappointing not to be in the next round, however the free 'Shootout' cards after the game soon put the smiles back.

ROUND

TWO

There were no major surprises in round 2 of the Jim Pearson CUP with all results running true to form. In one of the top games Bashley Vipers easily overcame high riding St Francis Rangers, banging in five without reply, Sam Woodward grabbing a brace. Two of the top teams in the strong yellow league, Hedge End Rhinos and Hythe Harriers, fought out a thrilling encounter, the Rhinos edging through 3-2 thanks to a James Holder brace. Hythe Jets did however keep the Waterside club involved in the next round, running out 5-2 victors over Bitterne Terriers, Harry Swainston scoring two for the Jets. Unbeaten Sportstars Red cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ice Sports, Bailey Barnes and Adam Price doing the damage with two apiece, It was a similar story for Eastleigh where Jack Jerram’s brace and a Cameron Thomas hat-trick saw them comfortably dispose of Winchester Hawks. The only tie to require extra time in the Jim Pearson competition saw Tadburn Cougars squeeze Past Colden Common A, thanks to a last gasp effort from Jai Woolford. Tadburn Panthers were less fortunate however, losing by three clear goals to Wyvern Saints, for whom Tom Bowden was once again on the target with a pair. A Liam Doyle goal was sufficient to see St Francis Knights through against a resilient Earls side, whilst Littleton Leopards caused a minor surprise in lowering the colours of Totton Rangers White. There were no surprises however in the clash between Winchester Eagles and Winsor, the Eagles running in six without reply. Another  Rafferty Tellet hat-trick and a Harry Bayles brace seeing them through. Itchen Tyro saw off the challenge of Hillcrest Red with a 4-1 victory, Ryan Matheson grabbing two for Itchen. Oakwood Tigers also roared into the third round, beating Fawley Falcons by two goals without reply.

ROUND ONE REPORT -  All Teams

CUP

ROUND

ONE

It was a fantastic day for Pace, as all three of their teams made it to the second round in dramatic style. The Pumas not surprisingly overcame AFC Hiltingbury Blue, hammering in six without reply, with braces coming from Ryan Chester and Callum Kitcher.  The Panthers however caused a major surprise in putting out Baddesley Park, with the only goal of the game scored by Josh Clark. There was more drama to come however as the Cougars then took the fancied Townhill Emperors to extra time and then penalties. After four penalties apiece the scores still remained level, so it fell to the goalkeepers to then take their penalties.  The Townhill penalty was saved by the diminutive Ethan Baulf who then had the additional pressure of trying to score himself. His well placed penalty gave the brave Townhill keeper Millie Peake no chance and earned the Cougars a place alongside their other teams in the hat for the second round. Four other ties went into extra time in the Team Elite cup.  Hamble displayed great sportsmanship in their match with Bashley Tigers, refusing to accept a goal following an injury to the Tigers keeper. This left score at 1-1 taking the tie into extra time. Their gesture was rewarded when they scored the only goal in the final period. Sportstars Green and Oakwood Lions were next to require extra time to resolve their tie.  The Lions scored in the second period and then survived a late Sportstars onslaught to book their passage to round 2. The third tie to end 1-1 after normal time followed a similar pattern to the other two ties, this time St Francis Rovers were the victors and Hillcrest Stokes the unfortunate but brave losers. Finally Marchwood Rangers and AFC Hiltingbury Red failed to score in normal and extra time. In the penalty shoot out Hiltingbury held their nerve to win 4-3 on penalties. Michelmarsh and Timsbury hit Granley Rovers Red for six, Ben Bradwell’s brace being complemented by a pair of own goals, Granley Rovers Blue faired somewhat better, running out 5-2 victors over Hythe Strikers. BA Juniors, one of the favourites also booked a safe passage against near neighbours Totton Rangers Blue, Declan Jones netting twice. Littleton Lions won a tough encounter with Alresford Town, a Thomas Steggle goal separating the sides. It was a similar story in the Testwood Lancers and S & D game where Testwood’s Otis Connell goal was all that was needed to secure victory.
