Piers
Anthony Dillingham Jacob is the author of several fantasy books. During
his 25 year career, he has managed to publish over one hundred books.
Piers
was born August 6th, 1934 in Oxford, England. Since his mother didn't
have to name him right away, when it was time to name him, she just
gave him any name that came to her mind.
Both of his parents
graduated from the University of Oxford, but Piers didn't because he
was a "slow learner". During the Spanish Civil War, Peirs usually
stayed with his other relatives and a nanny because both his parents
went to go do relief work.
When Pier's was six years of age, his
family had to move to America. His father was originally fom America,
and the family left on, what some believe, was the last ship to America.
When
Piers first attended school, he had to go through first grade three
times, and attend five different schools before he could go to the next
grade.
Nine schools, and nine years later, Piers entered the
ninth grade. At this age, he was considered the smallest out of both
male and female students.
Luckily, he managed to grow another
foot when he got his BA in writing. This was good, because his new wife
(Carol) was very tall. He married Carol Marble, and had their first
daughter eleven years later.
In 1958, Piers first became an American citizen after joining the US army. Piers Anthony first wrote his first "attempt" at a story, which was called Evening , which was rejected by Galaxy Magazine.
In
1962, Piers and his wife arranged for him to stay home full time to
write a story. he argreement was if his next story was rejected, he
would stop writing, and focus on supporting his family.
Although
two of his novels did manage to be published, he only made $160, which
wasn't enough money to raise a family. So then Piers became an English
teacher, but he didn't like that job, so he became a full time writer
again in 1966. This time, he switched to writing novels, rather than
stories.
