New website for the Torgwen area http://torgwen.co.uk
Torgwen is the name I have called the broad trad music area encompassing Torfaen, Gwent and adjacent counties.
Because trad music, dance and song is spread out in this broad area and people travel long distances to attend sessions it seems
right to have a name that covers this.
The only boundary depends on how far you are prepared to travel!
Fran 2006
Torfaen Traditional Music was set up in 2004 with the aim of increasing quality and enjoyment of trad music for musicians and audience in the Torfaen area through regular sessions, workshops and concerts.
In May 2005 we held our first May Weekend with Tom McConville teaching Alexander Technique and Fiddle and appearing in the concert with Bragod. Our second Weekend was in May 2006, with Gerry O'Connor running fiddle workshops and Alan Burke "accompanying trad music". We held a concert in the RAFA Club which also included One String Loose and Shoostring Appalachian dancers and a session after. Sessions were held in local pubs both years, including The Open Hearth, Griffithstown,The Queen's, Upper Cwmbran, The Lamb, Penyrheol, Pontypool. Torfaen Traditional Music is run on an entirely voluntary basis; this year we had support from Torfaen County Borough Council, The Welsh Church Fund and Richmond TV, Pontnewydd. In future we intend to increase communication with dancers, singers and other related groups in the area to make the next event even better! For any info please contact TorfaenTraditionalMusic@webster.uk.net. We also have a domain on Webster, our local community portal.
