Toph

Avatar the Last Airbender

                                           Toph here!

Welcome to my little corner of the world. BSG said I needed to add a little welcome and I guess tell you something about myself. I'm not very good at this kind of stuff, but here it is anyway.

My name is Toph Beifong. I'm twelve and I'm Aang's master Earthbending teacher and a darn good one at that! I've been traveling with the Avatar eversince Aang discovered me in an Earth Rumbling Tournament where I was better known as the "Blind Bandit" and begged me to be his teacher.

And, oh yeah, I guess I should also mention that I'm blind. But please don't pity me! Being blind doesn't bother me in the least. I "see" just fine, but in a different way than normal people. I see through my feet. Or rather, more precisely, I see through Earthbending by picking up vibrations through the earth. And because I'm blind, I've tuned my senses even sharper than most earthbenders so I can detect the faintest movements, big or small. But better than that, I discovered something probably no other earthbender can do. I discovered how to metal bend! And that definitely gives me a big advantage over the Fire Nation!

I also come from one of the richest, most influencial families in the Earth Kingdom, the Beifongs! But I hated every part of my former life. As much as I love my parents, you see they are extremely overprotective and don't understand me in the least. They have always viewed my blindness as a handicap to the point they considered me a helpless invalid! Even after I showed them what I could do with my Earthbending, it didn't changed their minds about me. It just made my father even more determined to protect me from myself. So that's when I decided to run away and join Aang and his friends. It was the first time in my entire life I felt needed and I could finally be free to use my Earthbending the way I want to.

Since then I've been traveling with Aang, Sokka & Katara, (who are siblings from the Southern Water Tribe). At first it took us all some getting used to each other. Having been couped up all my life, I was ready for some much needed freedom and I admit, I'm a little crusty around the edges and have issues about people telling me what to do. Though Sokka wasn't too difficult to get along with, Katara and I sure did have few blow ups those first few weeks! I even ran out on them once, but a kind, tea loving old man helped me see that friends need to stick by each other. Eventually we finally seemed to worked out our differences and I have to admit we do make a great team.

We've encountered quit a few adventures since I joined up with the group, including a great time conning a few con artists! Boy that was a blast! Okay, okay! I know, I was wrong and Katara and I nearly got Aang exterminated by a mechanical man, but it was still fun! But...it sure didn't compare to our greatest adventure - helping to defeat the Fire Lord! So if you want to know more about me or the rest of the characters from Avatar the Last Airbender, be sure to hop over to BSG's site, Blue Spirit Gal  .
