| Fantastic Flora |
So we have fish, we have wildlife, and we have Anglers and their families and pets. They all come here to enjoy what's on offer at the Tongrube, but if you look around you will also see a vast abundance of truly wonderful Flora. Because it is so common we take it for granted and don't really take the time to really look and enjoy what is before our very eyes, throughout the seasons you can always find some aspect of nature that we've previously overlooked so this page will hopefully help us to re-open our eyes and look again. |
| Fly Agaric toadstool ( Amanita Muscaria ) |

The Fly Agaric can usually be found in the Autumn and can be seen growing beneath Birch trees, it can also occassionaly be found growing under Pine and other trees. |
| Water mint (Mentha Aquatica) |

The Water mint can be found growing in marshes,along rivers and in wet woodlands the plant flowers between July & October easily recognised by the minty scent the plant releases. |
| Wood forget-me-not (Myosotis sylvatica) |

The Wood forget-me-not flowers between April & September and can be found in abundance in woods, hedgerows,cultivated ground,dryish soils and dunes a resiliant little plant that does well in all conditions. |
| Early forget-me-not ( Myosotis Ramosissima ) |

The early forget-me-not has the same charecteristics and flowering times as its cousin the wood forget-me-not. A couple of differences are the shape and size of the leaves the WFMN has larger hairy leaves while the EFMN has smaller smooth leaves, also the stems to the flower heads are shorter on the EFMN plant. |

Honey Fungus can be found in the Autumn on or around the base of living or dead tree trunks and stumps. |
| Cuckooflower ( Cardamine Pratensis) |

The Cuckooflower so named because the flowers begin to open about the same time of year that the Cuckoo can be heard. Grows in meadows and at the waterside and flowers between April & June. |

The Rose hip is the seed stage of the Dog Rose, it can be found growing in woods, scrub and hedgerows. The flower of the plant is a soft shell pink and usually blooms between June & July. |

The Yellow Iris can be found growing in and along rivers, marshes,woods,wet ground and shallow water, the flower has three bright yellow petals and blooms from May to July. |

Agrocybe praecox, is a common fungus and can be found in grassy areas also along roadside verges and forms usually in the spring. |
| Herb Robert ( Geranium Robertianum ) |

Flowers between May-September, can be found mainly in shady areas growing in places as diverse as woods, hedges, rocks and walls. |
| Woodruff ( Galium Odoratum ) |
 |
| |
Woodruff also known as goosegrass and its clinging leaves and stems which "stick" to clothing and animals. Flowers normally between June -August, grows amongst shingle, wasteground, hedges and rocks. |
| Red Campion ( Silene Dioica ) |

Usually found around the margins of woodland, defined easily due to its' Rose pink flowers, the plant flowers between May-June and grows near woods and hedgerows and in lime rich earth. |

A member of the Campion family, and can be found in similar places as the Campion and with the added bonus of damp areas. |

Found around woodland edges and shady hedges, distinctive blue-violet flower which blooms from April-June, most often found by woods , hedges and on heathland. |

The ZigZag Clover can be found in lush patures or in areas were the soil is moist and rich, the flowering plant can be seen between May - September. |
| Common Vetch ( Vicia sativa ) |

Found growing in grassy areas and hedges, distinctive due to its' tendrils which wrap around nearby objects. The common Vetch flowers between May - September. |
| Bittersweet ( Solanum dulcamara ). |

The Bittersweet is a climbing plant and can be found wrapped around other objects. Found in areas of waste ground, shingle,hedges and woods, usually shows between June - September. |
| Wild Strawberry ( Fragaria vesca ) |

As you wander round the lake and you get a whiff of Strawberry it isn't always the Angler and his concoction to attract the fish, Wild Strawbs grow in shaded areas and amongst the hedgerows here at the lake. Flowers from April onwards and the fruits can be eaten when ripe about May-July, only tiny but much more flavour than commercial Strawberries. |
