Tom Cruise and his involvement in the Church of Scientology

Tom Cruise has been a vocal Scientologist for years. Whether he is hosting the grand opening of a new Church of Scientology or celebrating the 34th anniversary of the Church of Scientology Celebrity Center in Hollywood, he has supported his church for years.

He isn't the kind of celebrity who attends church on Sunday and then promptly forgets what he stands for. Tom Cruise is a generous man in his daily life - from changing a stranger's tire to rescuing people from the water, he does like to help others.

A Celebrity Scientologist Sets an Example

The events of September 11th, 2001 were a wake-up call to us all. That tragedy brought about a recognition for many that we must take action about the state of the world; and not only a recognition, but a very real and intense desire to do something about it. But how?

Many Scientologists answered that call by becoming even more active in bringing the solutions of Dianetics and Scientology technology to their communities -- by opening a Scientology Mission.

Celebrity Scientologist Jenna Elfman, star of the hit US TV show “Dharma & Greg”, set the example, stepping forward to sponsor and promote the opening of a new Mission in San Francisco. This is the Mission of SoMa (South of Market Street), opened in cooperation with her good friends and fellow Scientologists Joe and Cindy Feshbach; Cindy also being the Mission Holder and Executive Director of another very successful mission in the San Francisco bay area.

Cindy and Jenna incorporated a community program into the Mission as a service to local children — the “Arts for Kids Program”, based on Mr. Hubbard’s study technology and his article, “The Joy of Creating”.

The street was closed off for the mission’s grand opening that was attended by over 1,000 people including San Francisco community leaders and officials. In support of this example of positive action to do something effective about the world and conditions in society, the grand opening was also attended by other celebrity Scientologists including Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Bodhi Elfman, Catherine Bell, Kirstie Alley, Eduardo Palomo, Jennifer Aspen, Danny and Chris Masterson, Lynsey Bartilson and Juliette Lewis.

Police Captain Tony Perra, acting as representative for the City of San Francisco, expressed in his welcoming speech how happy he was to have the Church in his precinct, and how he needed their help to improve conditions is that area of the city.
