Tokelau

Untouched, Tropical... Perfect

Introduction

Tokelau is an island-nation made of three atolls that are virtually untouched, inhabited by one-thousand five-hundred native Tokelauans and ruled under tradition and Christianity, with the three atolls independent in Christianity, one Protestant, one Roman Catholic and one split between the two faiths. Tokelau is an island of Austronesian ethnicity and culture, with some natural resources and only one way to get there, via a ship. There is no airport or harbor in all the three atolls, with the only way to land is docking and riding in within small boats. The Tokelauans are connected to society through special wireless broadband modems for high-speed internet and all the populace is educated and bilingual. The Tokelauans live off of the natural habitat and are ruled through two councils, despite territorial ownership from New Zealand. Their government is a republic under the proportions of capitalism, democracy and counciliarism. Each village elects a mayor and chief, and for every hundred villagers a representative is called. Their head-of-state is selected by New Zealand, as is their Secretary-Diplomat, their basic ambassador, and the island is basically ruled by the legislative bodies of the councils, as cries of independence are causing a gap between New Zealander power over Tokelau, as it becomes more and more of a nation than a colony. Tokelau maintains a special relationship with New Zealand with trade and tourism, currently protected from the New Zealander military under protectorate-like basis.
