New Testament Prayers

This is a brief summary of prayers of the New Testament, which can be used as a template for our prayer lives.  These New Testament prayers, or "Apostolic prayers" (meaning, prayers the Apostles prayed), have four advantages:

  1. They are Biblical - we know that these prayers are within the will of God for the Church.
  2.  They are for the Church - the Church is God's instrument for making known the wisdom of the Gospel
  3. They are positive - if you use these prayers, you will avoid negative prayers or "preaching prayers" which will eventually lead to burn out for the person praying, and potentially offense for others who are listening in
  4. They are for a city - we can pray for a whole region, not just a particular congregation or denomination

Prayer for the 2008 Elections

This teaching was created for a prayer meeting during the January 2008 primaries.  The intention is to pray for our leaders and the current election season in a Biblical way.

Praying for the Knowledge of God

This series was created for a prayer vigil in August 2007.  It introduces the Biblical concept of the knowledge of God and then focuses in on the prayer of Ephesians 1:17-19, which is explicitly a prayer around the issue of the knowledge of God.

  1. Introducing the Knowledge of God
  2. The Hope of His Calling
  3. The Glory of His Inheritance
  4. The Greatness of His Power
