Tricks For Witches

This page is not currently working in most browsers. The code I used to let the page self-modify itself now seems to be blocked as a security risk. I assure you it worked fine back on Netscape 8.1. :) I'll have to get around to fixing/updating it someday, but until then, enjoy the use of your favourite text editor. :) --Ted/Anne/Anabal, 08/09/09.

This is a small utility to help players create their own tricks for use in the Discworld MUD. To create a trick, you'll need a large round stone that has been bonded to you through the use of Granny Benedict's Bond of Loyalty. You'll also need any components that you want to include in your trick.

Choose a name for your trick, and enter the information for all of the trick's stages. When you're done, press the [Create the trick] button to quickly transform your trick into a set of convince statements that you can then paste into the MUD. Depending on the size of your trick and how many Guild Points you have, you will probably need to paste the lines in smaller groups.

Both The Disc Witches Guild website and The Lancre Witch Trials wiki contain a lot more detailed information on creating tricks. Thanks go out to the creators and contributors of both sites for all their support.

The Trick Maker

What would you like your trick to be called?

What -- if anything -- does your trick require? (Leave blank for nothing.)

What is the target of your trick?

How many stages would you like your trick to have?
(Warning: Altering the number of stages will reset all stages!)

When cast successfully:

Your Trick:

Tips & Reminders on Tricks:

Vocabulary: Somewhere within each of the (publicly) displayed lines of the trick, you will need to include mention of one of the magic methods. For reference, these are: air, earth, fire, water, animat(ing), channel(ing), charm(ing), convok(ing), curs(ing), bind(ing), brew(ing), chant(ing), danc(ing), enchant(ing), evok(ing), heal(ing), scry(ing), abjur(ing), banish(ing), conjur(ing), divin(ing), & summon(ing).

Expanded Vocabulary: The tense of these words can be altered (i.e. summon, summoning, summoned...) or used as a noun (a royal summons, a summoning, a summoned elemental, etc.) Really, as long as the root is lowercase, and has no prefixes attached, you can use any suffix you want. Phrases like "airtight jar", "book bindings", and "conjuration of eternal doom" are all acceptable. A bit of the morporkian vulgate (similar to latin) could even be thrown in for a bit of flavour ("convokare meum!" for example). Technically, "summonedwhatsitdeariethingerbob" would be acceptable, but then it just starts getting too  silly. :)

Charlie and you: During each of the trick's stages, you'll need to include your (short) name at some point. (i.e. "Miss Anabal" would refer to herself as simply "Anabal".) You also have the option of mentioning Charlie. Charlie is the old scarecrow in Lancre who -- through having excessive magic used on him over the years -- is somewhere between being a person and a thing. If you include "Charlie" in the body of your trick, it will automatically be replaced with the name of the person or item on which you are casting your trick.
