What is Christmas on the Coast?

Because of Hurricane Katrina, thousands of Gulf Coast families will celebrate Christmas this year in tents, trailers, cars, and campers because their homes and belongings were destroyed.

The Christian Life Church, with a camp set up in Waveland, Mississippi, has started a massive drive to gather new items to be given away to hurricane victims at their December 18 Christmas outreach.

“It will be a magical event for these families.” stated Pastor Laura Stafford, who is leading the event. “We are hosting Christmas on the Coast at a local park in Waveland where we will have a snow machine blanket the park with snow. Children will be able to sled down a snow mountain or skate on the ice skating rink while parents pick up Christmas gifts for their families. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the Christmas village so that families can have their pictures made with them.”

1. 6,000 families have been adopted.

2. $1,000,000 budget taken from Christian Life Church's building fund to provide Christmas entertainment for these families.

3. 12,000-15,000 attendance expected.

4. There will be 3 snow parks, inflatable rides and jumps for children, a maze, and a tent for shopping.

5. There will also be a stage for live music, a 25-ft. tall Christmas tree, hot chocolate and Christmas caroling.
