Package from my first Nordisk Hemmelig Venn arriver on Friday. A perfect start to weekend! I found 3 balls of brown-colored Grignasco's Kayak (new yarn for me!), marvellous cap pattern (why haven't you sent it to Ulla?), lovely orange needles in size 4,5 mm (that was a size I didn't hav ebefore, how did you knew?) and something blue for my wedding- a lacy garter! Thanks Katja! You really read my thoughts!! I had to try garter immediately, but the yarn and cap must wait.
This weekend I have tried to finish my wrapped cardigan. I still need to write the pattern! Ugh!
Yesterday I decided to knit my wedding scarf in pearl shaded Kidsilk Haze. I ordered 3 balls of it and a Rowan Magazine from Colourway. I can always choose the colour of my dress to match my scarf! And then I have to find matching shoes! That may be a problem, because I have quite small feet.
Having back-ache isn't much fun, but you've more than enough time to think for example next summer's wedding. I slipped on our yard. Damn they haven't sanded it! Now I walk like a right-angled pingvin! Well, now I have time to think my bridal scarf. I definitely need a knitted scarf that I can wear in church or if the wedding day is cold. And I must knit it in some luxury yarn. Definitely!
I've thoght to use Rowan's Kidsilk Haze and knit Birch-scarf. Probably I need 3 or 4 balls. No, the yarn or the pattern is not the problem. The problem is which colour I choose! Do I choose darker shade "Pearl"?
Or is it too dark? Or too beige? Natural white is better colour to me than pure white. At least Laughing Hens sell pure white Kidsilk Haze.
Or should I still wait if Novita has some kidmohair left?
And we'll have a building site! We're going to build our own house next summer. Janne has more than once hinted, that "when we start building you won't have money to buy yarn". Like I'd even have time to knit then! That's why I have to buy enough yarn now. Maybe I won't have money to buy yarn when we have to pay back our house-loan. That's about 15 years. How much i need yarn for 15 years?
Yesterday we had our knitting meet-up in Joensuu. Helka had made wonderfull felted things. I loved a cell phone bag she had made in Novita's Huopanen-yarn!
I found nothing from market's yarn sale. Lucky me! Instead of that I may find something from Novita Klubi's yarn sale, fro example some cotton-viscose yarn, or kid mohair... Or maybe I just find some usefull yarn from local market...
My wrap cardigan isn't ready yet. I finished knitting back this morning, so I still need to knit the sleeves.
Knitting lacy wrapped cardigan is anoying! I prefer bigger needles and not so thin yarn... Luckily the pattern is easy to knit! This cardigan should be ready by the 15th of January. That's the deadline of next Ulla-magazine.
...So I finally decided to order Rowan's Knitting Magazine! No, I actually thought ordering it nearly a year. And now it's done. I almost ordered a Finnish sewing and knitting magazine Suuri Käsityölehti (which my Mum orders) but then I thought it over. Why would I order a magazine full of patterns for babies and children? Rowan cost only a little bit more... and the patterns can be knitted in other yarns that can be bought in Finland...
Actually I saved money; I decided NOT to buy black-white colored Hippy-yarn! My yarn cache is too full! I need a bigger house!
I'm still sick. Fever has now continued over a month and it truly seems that skiing was not a very good idea... My nose flows like Janne's wooden boat!
Despite Epiphany the italian witch La Befana didn't bring me gifts and I had to buy yarns by myself:
The white yarn is Butterfly, cotton-viscose yarn from Novita. Turquoise yarn is Tennessee, mercerized cotton yarn also from Novita. There was black-white mixed Hippy-yarn in half price, but I didn't buy it. Should I have bought it? ?
Christmass holiday is over! As usually, my holiday was too short!
I knitted all these last year:

After three weeks I'm back in business! Doctor still couldn't find anything. My colleague said, that I maybe had diasease called mononucleosis also known as Epstein-Barr virus infection. Maybe. Who knows? I still have a little bit fever but I try to manage without not-knowing doctors...
This week I have had no time to knit. Too much work! This evening I finally had a chance to knit. My leg warmers are ready! There were missing six rows! I think I still need some rubberbandyarn to fix my legwarmers perfectly fitting...
Janne is visiting his parents, so I'm able to knit his present. They're going to be surprise! Janne haven't managed to find out his Christmas present, wich by the way, may arrive after Holidays... GRRR! He found out his two other presents, both candy. And he accidently eated two of five candy bars I bought him for present! Rest three I wrapped separately.
Here is Janne's present, a fingerless glove for ice-fishing. I'm still knitting its pair. He doesn't read my blog
Finally! Our internet connection works again. Life is surprisingly difficult without internet. When that happened?
I still got fever, I've got it over three weeks already. Doctor couldn't find anything. He has taken two blod tests, two x-rays (lungs and sinus) and still nothing!
Of course I have knitted! If I didn't knit, they'd finally find something wrong in my head! I found a perfect capelet pattern from Interweave Knits?s pages. I had few balls chunky yarn called Jumbo Soft (from Novita). I crocheted it very quickly and I'm more than satisfied with it! I can wear it on my coat or indoors on shirts.
I'm still working on my leg warmers.. I had to rip my first leg warmer, because it became too loose in upper part. So, I'm still working on...
But here's something I finally finished; Sami's (yes, that's his name and yes, he's a fan of LOTR and Samvais Gamgi!) Yarn is Finnish Novita 7 Veljestä and I found the cable pattern from The Girl From Auntie's page. I changed the pattern to fit in circular knitting.
And here's the cable
Right now I'm knitting giant mittens... I'm going to shrink them in washing machine, so don't worry: they are going to be allright..
Actually I just started to knit Coronet cap from
Knitty...
Yahoo! I had no fever this morning! I am so happy, so I decided to join to Nordisk Hemelig Venn (nordic secret friends)!
This morning I have done everything. I've already teased my friend Anne by sending her a link to Heirloom Knitting pages (She loves scarves), sold few balls of bulky Jumbo Soft, took photos of Kusti's slipover, searched fancy cable pattern to Janne's brothers socks (Christmass present) socks and joined to Nordisk Hemmelig Venn!
There's a photo of Kusti's sliover featuring my favourite toy Bambi:
I have fever again! I have had fever about last two months... I have only a little bit fever, but it really makes me tired. Yesterday I went to doctor (once again) and he sent me to laboratory tests. So we'll see what they find!
Because of I've been sick, I haven't knit much. Instead of knitting I bought a trendy young women's magazine, Trendi. There was quite hippy knitwear, for example a very 70's looking slipover. So, my brown knitted wrapover slipover isn't so "out" after all! There was a picture of long white cardigan, very similar to what I'm knitting. I use purple Yorkshire Tweed and lots of cables
I have knitted too. Kusti's slipover will be ready soon. I cost only 2 euros, because I use left-over yarns. Cheap and stylish! I must confess; I ordered a knitting book. Isn't it funny that I need to order Swedish book from USA?
Surprisingly my cat Kasperi doesn't care about mice. I mean toy mice... He seems to think that his food needs to walk straight to his mouth. If you wonder why I'm speaking about mice, I'm crocheting them as Christmass gifts to my preschool pupils. If I have enough time to crochet four or five mice more... Otherwise I keep all of them myself. I got the pattern from my mothers craft magazine from 1986.
Something about knitting too. Last weekend I knitted two pairs of baby-socks, a pair of blue Regia and a pair of brown-beige striped wool. I haven't got a picture of them, becouse I already gave them away!
My purple cardigan (Yorkshire Tweed) stays still... But I have started to knit black leg-warmers. I have a cold, so knitting under a warm blanket just now sounds too temptating!
About me..
Welcome to my knitting blog! I've done knitting since 1996 though I learned to knit at school when I was... 8 or 9 years old. At school I hated knitting, mostly because I'm left-handed and teachers couldn't teach me properly. Today I do a lot of knitting, sewing and cross stitching.
I live in eastern Finland, near town Joensuu, in Lehmo (it means something like "cow yard", though nowadays there are no cows. What a pity!). I live together with my boyfriend Janne (we are going to get married next summer!) and our cat Kasperi.
I work as a special-education teacher in Primary School. I also have lessons in High School and P.E. classes in primary school for handicapped children.
I made my own knitting websites last winter and started blog last spring (2004).
