The election results could not have been better. All the candidates of the 2009 republican slate went home smiling Tuesday night after the whole republican ticket declared victory around 8:45p.m. Tuesday night. The results are as follows:

Independent mayoral candidate Tom Iffland Jr. said he has all the signatures he needs to pitch a run against incumbent Republican Mayor Ryan J. Bingham and Democratic challenger Samuel Slaiby.
Since he announced he would run for mayor last week, Iffland said he filed with the City Clerk’s Office a collection of 120 signatures from city voters. Once the signatures are submitted, the office verifies each one to see if
they are registered voters, then files them with the Secretary of State’s Office, said Carol Anderson, assistance City Clerk.

Ending weeks if not months of speculation, Democrats announced Samuel E. Slaiby, a Torrington native and local attorney, as their candidate to challenge Mayor Ryan J. Bingham.
Slaiby announced his candidacy to challenge the two-term Mayor in front of two-dozen supporters in Coe Memorial Park Thursday morning.
Slaiby outlined several issues including economic development, education, and state of the city finances that will likely become issues.

A city resident and construction manager said Tuesday he is pitching a run for mayor as an unaffiliated candidate.
Tom Iffland Jr. said he plans on challenging incumbent Republican Mayor Ryan J. Bingham and an unknown Democratic candidate for the office of mayor this fall. Iffland, who runs Iffland Lumber Industries, said he is running
as an independent because he is “sick of politics as usual.”
