The Essence of Games

It is no coincidence that great video games happen to possess great music.  Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, Yasunori Mitsuda...among others; these individuals have crafted tunes which live as beautiful songs in their own right, legendary composers who's work is through the contemporary medium of games.  Let these pieces grow as anything else which is wasting space on your iPod, real music, worth listening to without shame.  It's beautiful.

I will continue to update this page with links to downloadable files and OSTs for various games.

A Link to the Past: Sound & Drama

How to use Megaupload: All of the files here are uploaded by me, HadJo, so you don't have to worry about viruses or anything.  These OSTs are usually around 100 MB, so I'll have to use one of these sites, which can often be difficult to use at first.  It really isn't very hard, but just in case:

1. After clicking the link, look to the top right of the middle of the page.  You should see three letters and a blank field.  Enter the three letters into the blank field and click 'download.'
2. The page should reload, look directly below where the three number field was...there should be a countdown which says "please wait X seconds." Wait for this countdown to go down, this area will turn into a 'download now' button, press it.
3. Depending what browser you're using, pick a place to save the ZIP file. The download should commence, it shouldn't take too long.
4. After doing this your done with Megaupload; you may close it.
5. Navigate to the ZIP file on your computer and double click on it. You will now be viewing the contents, which should be a folder with the title of the soundtrack.
6. Drag the folder to your desired location and add the mp3, inside the folder, to your desired music player.  Enjoy!

A Link to the Past: Sound & Drama

Composer: Koji Kondo
Title: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Platform: SNES

[From Wikipedia]:

The score to A Link to the Past was composed by Koji Kondo. The overworld theme of The Legend of Zelda ("Hyrule Overture") returns in A Link to the Past, redone in SPC700 style; it is featured in "Light World Overworld" and in "End Credits". A Link to the Past arguably established the musical core of the Zelda series. While the first game originated the "Hyrule Overture", many recurring motifs of the Zelda scores come from A Link to the Past, including "Zelda's Lullaby" (Princess Zelda's Theme), "Ganondorf's Theme", "Hyrule Castle" (Royal Family Theme), "Kakariko Village" and "Select Screen / Fairy Cave". These themes have been used in most subsequent Zelda games. "Rain Scene" and "Title Screen" have also occasionally been featured in other games.
A soundtrack to A Link to the Past, entitled The Legend of Zelda: Sound and Drama, was released in Japan. Disc one is 44 minutes long and features rearranged versions of some of the game's themes, along with a bonus drama track. Disc two is 54 minutes of the original arrangements for the game and those of the original NES The Legend of Zelda.
The "Dark World" theme was used Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
