Spread the Fire is a non-denominational evangelical event for students and college aged adults. It's open for the whole church and the whole family! Spread the Fire incorporates the talents and efforts of multiple youth and church groups to provide awesome worship, thought provoking multi-media and a hard hitting GOSPEL message of hope to the young people of Pierce County, North Thurston County and South King County.
The Youth Mission Corps pulls youth groups together into a coalition that reaches other youth for Jesus Christ.
Picture this: When we first walk into the host church, a multi-media collage of music videos, promo footage for upcoming major youth events, humorous clips and challenging mini-clips are blazing away on the screen. Free stuff is tossed out into the audience; maybe you’ll get something…maybe not. Then a 5 minute countdown signals an opportunity to take a seat.
The host prepares us for a one of a kind event that will never be forgotten. Within just a couple of minutes, you will sense that maybe you should have invited just a few more of your friends to come with you because you can already tell that this is going to be so cool. It has a different feel. Something special is about to happen, you can just tell.
We pray and then the pastors and youth pastors and various church leaders are encouraged to break away and meet Bill Wagner while the youth participates in an awesome worship experience. The breakout session prepares the leaders for the most important role they will play this evening. No leader will want to miss this breakout session.
Finally the music stops and an “in your face” video clip introduces us to what we are to face in the evening. Your friends will know what to expect, but they are riveted to their seats to see how it will unfold for them. What will happen next.
A youth pastor from across town reads scripture and introduces every pastor, youth pastor and leader that works with students in our community that is present. We see with our own eyes what kind of folks are willing to give their time and energy for us—who is willing to be in ministry and lay it on the line for each one of us. You can’t help but feel amazed at how many people are willing to hang out and just be a friend. A lump develops in your throat as you realize that these same people are available night and day to help your friends solve their problems as well. You feel a little relief knowing that you are putting your friends on the right track by getting them involved with these guys you just saw going across the stage.
The band leads one more worship song just to let the feeling to sink in for a moment longer as your leaders return to their seats. You can see that tonight is going to be very different. Different indeed.
Perhaps one of the musicians gives her testimony or another leader from yet another church youth group in the area gives his. Maybe it’s a video recorded testimony that reflects the same kinds of issues you know that most of your friends face today.
What time is it? You’ve got to be kidding! That much time has already zinged by? Whoa!
The youth evangelist finally comes to the stage. Using a combination of Bible, stories, and cutting edge video, some of which may never have been seen before; the speaker gives proof that God has a plan for every man, woman and child on the face of the planet and that none should perish but live forever with Him. Jesus Christ is introduced in a way that you have not ever seen before. You will never forget this message for as long as you shall live.
The impact, you realize is sudden and it is real. You notice that others are affected by the message as well. Then it happens. Tears of joy seem to stream off your face as you discover your friends responding to the invitation for your own youth leader to pray with them. Notice that others are responding as well.
The message of hope is well understood by our generation and you realize that this message is eternal and very real. Now you have a golden opportunity to get your friend involved in your youth group and in youth Sunday school because now they will want to know more and go deeper than they ever have before.
The evening is over before you know it. You are not ready to leave. Can’t we stay a few more minutes and maybe hear just one more song? Come on, just one more? Please?
It went by so fast that you didn’t even remember that an offering was taken to support the next “Spread the Fire” event that will happen across town in a new location, hosted by a new church later in the year. Picking up a CD or some other merchandize or gathering some free stuff went by so fast it almost seems a blur. You know it will be hard to fall asleep tonight. Your friends will probably want to text message you for the next couple of hours. I’m sure they’ll have plenty of questions for you.
Cool.
Are you an adult? Want to help make an impact on youth? Want to help?
We need volunteers to work as ushers and as security (crowd management). We can use help at merchandize and materials tables. The host church is generous, but we could use help in policing up the sanctuary before we leave to make less work for them! We need help spreading the word--promoting the event to youth groups we haven't been able to reach yet!
No matter how hard we try, sometimes material and invites get tossed out before the youth leader gets to see it. If you know a youth leader or youth pastor, you can do them a tremendous service by telling them about The Youth Mission Corps "Spread the Fire" events!
If you attended an Ignite the Flame, Rock the City, or Gravity events put on by Franklin Graham, then you will have the feel of what a Spread the Fire event will be like. It is hard hitting and it impacts this generation for Jesus Christ! You'll never know who will show up at a Spread the Fire event!
