SEEING COLOR BY ARLENE EVANS, R.N.
SEEING COLOR: IT'S MY RAINBOW, TOO is the only book written for children on color vision deficiency (CVD), or colorblindness, a genetic condition that affects in varying degrees 1:12 males and 1:200 females. The book was written for all children, so that those without the disorder will understand the challenges involved, just as they do with other disorders, and those with the disorder will know they're not alone and will receive helpful tips to deal with everyday situations.
Most of us take the ability to see color for granted, but for those affected by color vision deficiency (CVD) life can be challenging. In Seeing Color: It's My Rainbow Too, the book starts by illustrating the difficulties faced by a child, Joey Knight, who struggles to identify colors in the same way as other children. As a toddler, the color of shoes or crayons was a mystery to Joey, and as he grew older colored maps and clothing were tricky. Like others with CVD, Joey developed coping strategies, such as remembering that the red traffic light is always on the top, and the green on the bottom, to help him deal with everyday situations.--Rachel Newcombe-Reviewer for BookPleasures.com

SUSAN SARANDON: A TRUE MAVERICK BY BETTY JO TUCKER
In SUSAN SARANDON: A TRUE MAVERICK, film critic Betty Jo Tucker explores such questions as why the passionate and outspoken Sarandon chose acting as a career, how she selects her roles, why she promotes so many social and political causes and how critics rate her body of work. The result is a fascinating portrait of an actress who's become an American icon. Phil Hall, book editor for The New York Resident, calls Tucker's book a bravura accomplishment that "captures the full essence of Sarandon's world."
