Due to the large number of birds being sold to uninformed or impulse buyers, we are often times overwhelmed. Volunteers may sometimes foster birds in their own homes and at their own expense. We rely on donations and fundraising to defray the costs. Many birds need behavior modification and sometimes veterinary care.

Our volunteers often have their own birds, families and jobs and will try to do their utmost when called upon.

We carefully monitor the progress of foster birds and try to place them in new permanent and loving homes as soon as they are able. We screen new homes carefully and provide a follow-up service of help and guidance.

We do not buy, sell or ship birds, nor do we advocate the sale of unweaned baby birds. We are not veterinarians and are not qualified to expel medical advice.

We also are always in need of items. Below is a list of things that are always needed and appreciated.

*Paper towel
*Sponges
*Scrub brushes
*Bird safe, fume free cleaners (TKO, and the like are available at most pet stores.)
*Large 'cage' pads (These are available at Sams Club near the adult diapers. They are normally used in hospitals and nursing homes to line beds. We use them as cage tray liners! They come in packs of 50 for $7, or 150 for $12 and are large enough to fit most cage sizes. Makes cleaning cage trays a breeze and very sanitary too!)
*Cages (both for large and small birds)
*Perches, Playtops and Playstands
*Parrot-friendly toys and treats
*Latex and latex-free gloves (to be worn while cleaning, serving food, etc.)
*Fresh fruits and vedgetables-either bought or grown-must be pesticide free (email or call for a list of parrot safe foods)
*Live trees (large, but potted preferred) and plants (email or call for a list of bird safe plants and trees)
*Wood (NO treated lumber! It's TOXIC!), hardware, or other building supplies are always appreciated as well. We are currently in need of something similar to chain link fencing to expand the current outdoor aviary portion to a larger size. Also appreciated are large outdoor dog kennel type enclosures with doors. This helps us to seperate the different sized birds when they are outdoors. We are also in need of a smaller mesh type material to build an outdoor aviary for the smaller parrots. (email or call for a list of parrot safe building materials)
*Parrot toy making parts and pieces (cut and uncut wood pieces (whole or cut up 2x4's, 2x2's, 1x2's, etc.) of various sizes (pine is preferred, but email for a list of other safe woods), straws, small sticks, cotton rope, sisal rope, food safe color dyes or food coloring, 14 and 16 gauge stainless steel wire, wire snips, and pear shaped clips or C clamp clips for hanging toys)
*Large eye hooks, big enough for a large diameter sisal rope to be strung through for our bird room

How you can help:

Below are the different donation levels, and a listing of what you will receive at each level. Please let us know if you wish to remain anonymous. Remember that because The Tiki Room is a non profit shelter, your donations are not tax deductable, and receipts are available upon request.

Basic: Your $5.00 donation earns you a precious feather from a parrot currently in our shelter as a thank you for your gift. Your $5.00 will buy one parrot a new toy!

Bronze: Your $10.00 donation earns you a feather, plus a photo of the feather donating parrot currently in our shelter as a thank you for your gift. Your $10.00 donation will buy TWO parrots each a new toy!

Silver: Your $20.00 donation earns you everything in the above levels, plus a detailed story of a parrot currently in our shelter. Your donation will feed this bird for one week, and buy him a new toy!

Advanced: Your $50.00 donation earns you everything in the above levels, as well as your name listed on a plaque in the Tiki Room for all to see. Your donation will feed FIVE large birds their pellets for one week!

Gold: Your $100.00 donation earns you everything in the above levels, plus a certificate of sponsorship for this parrot. Your donation will provide pelleted food, and toys for this bird for THREE MONTHS! That's outstanding! At this level, your name will be listed as the bird's sponsor!Your sponsored bird will really appreciate your help!

Platnum: Your $200.00 donation earns you everything in the above levels, as well as an open invitation to visit your sponsored bird! Your donation will provide pelleted food, and toys for this bird for SIX MONTHS! That's amazing! And your sponsored bird will really appreciate your help! And we really enjoy meeting the people behind all this help!

Diamond: Your $500.00 donation earns you everything in the above levels, as well as an invitation to have your photo taken professionally with your sponsored bird! You'll remember this fun day for years to come. We really go all out with our sponsors! You'll even be invited to eat lunch right outside The Tiki Room (weather permitting of course)while you watch the birds in the outdoor aviary! Your donation will provide food, and toys for your sponsored bird for ONE YEAR! That's fantastic! Your donation helps make our sanctuary possible. Without your help, there would be no Tiki Room, and that would be a very sad fate.

Heart-Of-Gold Avian Supporter (the school favorite): Your $1000.00 donation will save a birds life. A bird that others may have cast aside and given up on, or facing euthanasia. Your donation will help us rescue and rehabilitate a severely neglected, ill, or abused parrot. This parrot may have been a severe self-mutilator, biter, screamer, plucker, medically or even terminally ill, or just in horrid condition, or behavior. You will receive everything in the above levels, as well as an open invitation to visit your sponsored bird, and have your photo taken with him/her. You will receive periodic photos and stories of your sponsored bird's healing and rehabilitation progress. Your name will be etched into a stone on the Tiki Room wall, along with the name of the bird you saved. You will receive a photo of your stone, with your bird beside it. The bird you save might never be whole, or tame enough to be adopted, but your donation assures him/her a permenant home in the Tiki Room's large jungle-like atmosphere, where he'll live as close to nature as he can without being free.

FOR SCHOOLS (or other EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES) ONLY: You can have your sponsored bird visit your class or school! (Reasonable -2 hours or less- driving distance from the shelter only please, and weather permitting -no cold weather- of course. These are TROPICAL birds!) Hear a presentation from the director and/or a volunteer, how and why the bird ended up at The Tiki Room, why the sponsorship program is so neccessary, and how your school's sponsorship has helped save this creature. We'll also bring along a few other birds from our sanctuary for the children to get up close and personal with! These will be birds that are currently rehabilitated and available for adoption. Talk, touch, and interact with these gentle giants of the Amazon! Have your class or school photo taken with these lovely birds! Available at most levels, please call for more information.
