ADAL Jaffa warrior and long-time friend of Bra'tac. Adal led a team of Jaffa to help keep the rebel Jaffa / Tau'ri presence on Ramius' planet a secret from those loyal to the Goa'uld, prior to the arrival of one of Anubis' super-soldiers. Adal may have given his life in this service, as the Kull warrior killed many Jaffa to get to Ramius.
ALDWIN A member of the Tok'ra -- the Goa'uld resistance allied with Earth -- Aldwin's loyalties were to the movement and its war against the System Lords. Little is known about him apart from his loyalty to the Tok'ra cause, and willingness to make high sacrifices to accomplish the mission assigned to him by the Tok'ra High Council.
Aldwin was also something of a scholar of Tok'ra / Goa'uld history. He was killed when his host's neck was broken in Zipacna's attack on the Tok'ra base at Revanna.

AMONET (or: Amaunet) Apophis' beloved Goa'uld queen. Amonet possesses the body of Daniel Jackson's wife, Sha're. Jackson and SG-1 searched the galaxy for Sha're for more than two and a half years before she was killed. Teal'c was forced to fire his staff weapon at her, because Amonet was about to kill Jackson.
Amonet and Apophis mated with their hosts and produced a human son, Shifu, who was born on Abydos and hidden away amongst the people. Apophis was convinced that Heru-ur (a rival System Lord) had stolen the child, though Amonet seems to have known the truth and kept it from him.
The son of Amonet and Apophis is a Harcesis: the offspring of two Goa'uld (a forbidden act) who contains all the genetic memory of the Goa'uld. Amonet returned for the boy a year after his birth, sending him to the planet Kheb with one of her handmaidens before she was killed.

But when SG-1 arrives and Daniel confronts her, Teal'c must shoot and kill Amonet and Sha're to save Daniel's life.
ANISE Anise is a scientist, an archaeologist and a member of the Tok'ra -- the Goa'uld resistence movement. She is a driven, self-motivated and beautiful woman; her name means "noble strength." Her host's name is Freya. Like most Tok'ra hosts, she is softer and more compassionate than her symbiote, and open with her feelings.
Though she is loyal to the Tok'ra and their cause, Anise is committed first to her work, which seems to take priority over the people she works with. She has spent much of her life in search of the Atoniek armband technology, which she recently discovered amidst ruins on a remote planet. The armbands give the wearer increased speed and strength.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Upgrades - Anise discovers the Atoneik armbands, and uses O'Neill, Jackson and Carter as test subjects -- endangering their lives. Crossroads - After a Jaffa delivers a Goa'uld spy to the Tok'ra's ranks, Anise refuses to allow SG-1 to interrogate him. Divide and Conquer - Freya uses a c
ANNA A Goa'uld-human hybrid engineered by scientists associated with the rogue faction of the N.I.D. Anna was the forty-sixth attempt at the creation of such a being from the DNA of the Goa'uld Sekhmet.
Anna was treated by her creator, Dr. Keffler, more as a science experiment than a human being, and was never allowed outside of the secret facility in Los Angeles where she was created and held prisoner in a clear box. Keffler gave her many books describing the world outside, but she never saw the sun. He gave her sketch pads and drawing utensils to depict the dark images within her mind, which came from Sekhmet's remnant genetic memories. Once Keffler told her it was for her birthday, likely meaning she was less than two years old, despite her appearance as a fully-grown woman.
Keffler's prime commitment was to use Anna's darker side to discover secrets of the Goa'uld, ultimately to save mankind. He tortured her to cause the latent Goa'uld personality come out. At the base of Anna's brain was implanted a supply of biotoxin that, when detonated with Keffler's hand-held device, would cause a humane death within moments.
Sekhmet ultimately offered her captor nothing of value. Anna herself was continually plagued by black-outs, her innocent nature only able to interpret the evil within her by creating horrific drawings. She eventually escaped under the influence of Sekhmet, who killed the scientists -- all except Keffler -- and set a Goa'uld bomb before being recaptured. SG-1 soon arrived with Malcolm Barrett -- an agent of the legitimate N.I.D. organization -- and Daniel Jackson became a close confidant to Anna and tried to get her to focus the memories she possessed. When Sekhmet appeared she used the candle in her cell to set Anna's drawings on fire, and eventually escaped.
At this point Anna regained control (though she may have been in control much of the time) and killed Dr. Keffler. She realized there was nothing that could be done to save her, and she used his device to release the biotoxin, killing herself.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Resurrection - Agent Barrett asks D r. Jackson to attempt to break the ice with Anna, a Goa'uld-human hybrid who has been tortured for an untold amount of time for information hidden within her mind.
ntroversial technique to ferret out Goa'uld-programmed assassins, and accuses Carter and O'Neill. She also throws herself at Jack, though she confesses that her symbiote Anise is attracted to Daniel.

THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA BELISKNER, THE Known in Norse mythology as "Thor's Chariot," the Beliskner was a legendary Asgard mothership capable of instilling fear into Goa'uld across the galaxy. Stories in Earth mythology describe Thor's Chariot as the vessel that carried him into battle while he wielded his hammer.
Configured in the original, older design of Asgard vessels, the Beliskner was capable in battle, able to remove several Goa'uld pyramid ships and several squadrons of Jaffa in mere moments, apparently transporting them to places unknown. It was by this method that the Beliskner quickly removed Heru-ur's ground forces from the planet Cimmeria.
Under the command of fleet Supreme Commander Thor, the Beliskner was used heavily in the Asgard war with the Replicators. The creatures successfully infiltrated the ship and began digesting its alloys. Accessing the database, the Replicators learned about Earth and plotted a course, planning to infest the world once their numbers had reached critical mass. The crew abandoned the ship, but Thor remained aboard to try and stop it from reaching Earth.
The Replicators' plans were thwarted by SG-1 who, with the aid of a bed-ridden Thor, destroyed the Beliskner's deceleration drive upon atmospheric entry toward Earth. The intense heat of an uncontrolled entry tore the ship apart. The fireball that was once the legendary vessel crashed into the Pacific Ocean.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Thor's Chariot - Summoned by Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson, the Beliskner crosses into our galaxy in a matter of moments to wipe away a Goa'uld threat that has occupied Cimmeria, a protected planet. Fair Game - Thor takes the Beliskner to Earth to conduct negotiations in hopes of making Earth a part of the Asgard-Goa'uld Protected Planets Treaty. Nemesis - The Beliskner is destroyed in the atmosphere of Earth when its deceleration drive is destroyed, in the hopes of preventing any Replicators from infesting the planet.
ANUBIS Once a powerful Goa'uldSystem Lord, Anubis was banished by the others because his actions were deemed unspeakable, even among the Goa'uld. He was believed destroyed, but managed to escape and learn the secrets of ascension. But the Ancients did not want the Goa'uld to join them on a higher plane of existence, and tried to force him to descend. They were only partially successful, and Abubis became trapped between the two planes of existence.
Because of his knowledge of the Ancients, Anubis amassed unimaginable advanced technologies, gathering strength for hundreds of years before returning to take his revenge upon the System Lords and dominate the galaxy. With weapons and armies to rival the entire collective power of the System Lords, he posed the largest threat to ever enter their collective domain, as well as to hundreds of peaceful worlds that stood in the shadow of his destructive hand.
Physically, Anubis is still some form of energy, and wears a mask to keep his form intact. It appears like the liquid-like event horizon of the Stargate, akin to the Ancient's technology.
Anubis was responsible for single-handedly destroying an entire fleet of System Lord motherships with the combined powers of the Eyes, as well as annihilating the planet Abydos. Using the technology of the Ancient's healing device, he also engineered an army of nearly unstoppable Kull warriors.
When he attacked Earth with his fleet, Anubis was apparently destroyed by the Ancient super-weapon that SG-1 found in the Atlantus outpost buried under the ice of Antarctica. Anubis was presumed dead, but his formless essence survived the explosion of his mothership. He hitched a ride on a Russian space craft, possessing the body of a cosmonaut and returning to Earth. Leaping from person to person he made his way to Stargate Command, where he managed to escape through the Stargate in the body of Russian officer Alexi Vaselov -- but he found himself frozen near the gate on an ice-covered planet, trapped.

APOPHIS (or: Apep, The Serpent God) An evil Goa'uldSystem Lord, once SG-1's arch enemy. He is the brother and mortal enemy of Ra, the sun god. In ancient Egyptian mythology, Apophis is the serpent, the god of the night and of death, and is in constant struggle with the god of the day.
Apophis invaded Earth and Abydos in search of Goa'uld hosts shortly after the humans destroyed Ra. Apophis took Sha're, Daniel Jackson's wife, and Skaara -- Sha're's brother and friend to Colonel O'Neill. Sha're became host to Amonet, Apophis' queen, while Skaara became host to Klorel, Apophis' son.
Apophis was a powerful System Lord, but had many enemies -- especially Sokar and Cronus. His attempt to invade Earth was thwarted by SG-1. Apophis died of wounds inflicted by Sokar, but was resurrected by Sokar and further tortured. For a number of months, he served as First Prime to Bynarr, warden of Sokar's prison moon of Ne'tu. His alias there was Na'onak. He later escaped Ne'tu to Sokar's home world of Delmak -- where he assumed control of Sokar's vast army after the latter's death. But when his ship was taken over by the Replicators, Apophis crashed into the atmosphere of Delmak and is again presumed dead.
Apophis and Sha're have a son, Shifu. The child is a Harcesis -- the child of two Goa'ulded hosts -- and possesses the collective knowledge of the Goa'uld who fathered him.

AYIANA An unascended Ancient who was left behind on Earth when the Ancients left between five and 10 million years ago, taking the city of Atlantis to the distant Pegasus Galaxy. Ayiana was unearthed in a block of ice not far from where the second Stargate was discovered in Antarctica, where Atlantis was once located. Named by Dr. Francine Michaels, one of the scientists as the research base that found her, Ayiana's name is Cherokee for "eternal bloom." SG-1 and the scientists were shocked when, upon defrosting her, Ayiana came to life from a state of cryogenic suspension.
Originally Ayiana was amongst the Ancient population of Atlantis but, for reasons not known, she was deliberately left behind to fend for herself. It is likely that she later entered an Ancient statis unit, which allowed her to survive for millions of years. Another possibility is that she was caught in an avalanche, her body encapsulated in ice and kept alive by the Ancients' remarkable self-healing abilities -- as the research team did not find her at the Atlantus outpost left behind when Atlantis left.
Ayiana watches the others leave her behind on Earth. From "Rising, Part 1"
Ayiana was the first sign that Ancients were, in fact, earlier versions of advanced humans -- the first evolution of our form of life. Samantha Carter and Janet Fraiser theorized that the Ancients may have evolved millions of years before humans; our resemblance to them also implies that they played a deliberate role in our evolution.
Ayiana and Jonas Quinn developed a rapport, and his continued attempts to communicate with her revealed the potential within her. She was able to understand and interpret the English language only after hours of listening to it. More puzzling was her ability to take away the sickness that she brought with her -- perhaps the very plague that wiped the Ancients out, and perhaps the reason the residents of Atlantis left her behind so long ago. When the members of SG-1 and the Antarctic team began to fall victim to the sickness, Ayiana was able to heal them with a touch.
After saving almost all the members of the research base (with the exception of Jack O'Neill), Ayiana succumbed to the illness herself. Saving the others drained her, and she eventually passed away at the S.G.C.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Frozen - SG-1 travels to Antarctica to see the frozen form of a long-dead human. When the woman is unfrozen and comes to life, the team falls victim to a deadly plague she is carrying. THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ASCHEN HARVESTER A massive antigravity "barge" built by the Aschen, designed to collect and store crops obtained from the farming lands of Aschen-controlled planets. The Harvester stores and maintains crops, then transports the yield en-masse through the Stargate to the Aschen homeworld. The gate on Aschen farm planets such as Volia is attached to a portable, multi-directional platform, which the ship can activate to automatically lay the Stargate flat. The harvester then dials the gate remotely, and dumps the crop through the event horizon.
The Aschen utilize hundreds of Harvesters on any given world, though they are used for more than collecting grain. Aboard each ship is at least one conference chamber suitable for conducting meetings, such as negotiations. The vessel is also equipped with an Aschen matter tranporter, by which individuals may come and go while the ship is in flight. There are also restroom facilities.
The Harvesters are also capable of launching Aschen bio-weapons though the same dorsal orifice by which goods are sent through the Stargate, making the ship a potential threat now that relations between Earth and the Aschen have been severed.
KEY EPISODE(S) - 2001 - SG-1 and Ambassador Faxon materialize aboard an Aschen harvester to conduct negotiations, in the hopes of formalizing an alliance with the Aschen Confederation.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ASGARD SCIENCE VESSEL A space-faring ship used by the Asgard Loki for conducting scientific research in orbit of other planets. The Asgard vessel is a slightly different configuration than other Asgard ships, equipped with various instruments designed specifically to hold and analyze subjects, and created cloned duplicates of individuals. It is equipped with long-range communicators and, like other Asgard ships, can go undetected in orbit by current Earth technologies.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Fragile Balance - SG-1 gets aboard Loki's science vessel in Earth's orbit, from which he has been conducting unauthorized research on humans.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA BEDROSIAN SHUTTLE POD A small craft capable of atmospheric flight. The ship, used by the technologically advanced Bedrosians, is also capable of hovering in the air. While hovering, the shuttle pod is able to generate a four-panel force field from its dorsal side down to the surface to capture adversaries. It is capable of flying at break-neck velocities, and is both versatile and maneuverable.
The vessel's hull is shielded from many forms of plasma-based weaponry. The shape of the interior is particularly suited for concealing troops as they fight off enemies outside the ship.
rosian shuttle pod captures three of SG-1, and is later used by Teal'c in the recovery of his teammates.

and some races to:
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ABYDONIANS The first race encountered by the S.G.C., the people of Abydos are simple desert-dwellers whose population numbers in the thousands. During the time Ra ruled the planet he outlawed reading and writing, fearing that the people would learn the truth about the uprising on Earth.
With the presence of Ra wiped clean, many Abydonians freely dwell near the Stargate. However, the majority of the civilization exists in a city several kilometers from the pyramid.
The Abydonians bask in a rich and beautiful culture, despite the hazardous desert conditions that often plague them in the form of sandstorms. Through relying on no one else but themselves for thousands of years, they have developed their own way of life through ritualistic feasts and music. Most of their clothing is light, serving to protect them from the harsh heat.
After the death of Ra, believed to be an evil god, the civilization no longer had to mine the valuable ore naquadah. Many learned English very quickly from Dr. Daniel Jackson, who lived on their world for a year. Their death ceremonies are primitive and include burying the dead in a sheet with sand on either side, which is then slid into the grave as the sheet is lifted by friends and loved ones on either side.
The Abydonians have successfully domesticated the Mastadge, a large, four-legged creature much like a horse or buffalo. Abydonian religion also includes animal worship.
KEY EPISODE(S) - "Stargate" the movie - When Earth's first Stargate team arrives on Abydos, Colonel O'Neill and Dr. Jackson help them overthrow the Goa'uld Ra, who has enslaved them. Jackson remains on the planet. Children of the Gods - Jack O'Neill returns to Abydos, but they are attacked by the Goa'uld once again. Apophis takes Sha're and Skaara captive as Goa'uld hosts, and Daniel leaves Abydos to join SG-1's search for them. Secrets - Daniel Jackson and Teal'c return to Abydos and find Sha're, pregnant with Apophis' child. Abydos is invaded by Heru-ur, who flees empty-handed when Apophis arrives for his queen. Forever In a Day - SG-1 defeats a Jaffa occupation force to liberate the Abydonians again, and learns that Amonet -- the Goa'uld who has possessed Sha're -- has returned for her son. Teal'c is forced to kill her to save Daniel. Absolute Power - Kasuf calls SG-1 back to Abydos, where they find that Shifu -- the artificially aged son of Sha're -- has returned. Full Circle - SG-1 helps defend Abydos from an attack by Anubis, who is in search of a powerful relic: the Eye of Ra. But when Anubis destroys the planet, Oma Desala saves the entire village by helping them to ascend to a higher plane of existence.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ANCIENTS The original "builders of roads," the Ancients were once a race of advanced humans who were the original architects of the Stargate network. According to the Asgard, they moved on from our part of space long ago. In fact, the Ancients learned to ascend to a higher plane of existence when a great plague swept across the galaxy. Many died out, but those who learned to ascend shed their corporeal form gained a new sense of purpose.
The Ancients were once key members of an alliance of four great races in the galaxy, along with the Asgard, the Nox and the Furlings. The Ancients lived on Earth long ago -- or perhaps evolved on Earth itself, millions of years before our species did. One Ancient, Ayiana, was buried in ice in Antarctica for millions of years. Ayiana was left behind by the Ancients when they left Earth with the city of Atlantis, moving to the Pegasus Galaxy between five and 10 million years ago.
In Pegasus the Ancients seeded human life on many hundreds of worlds, as they had once done in our galaxy. They lived there for millions of years -- but then they came upon a planet where a powerful enemy slept. The Ancients had never before encountered a race with technology that rivaled their own. Awakened, the Wraith began feeding on the human-populated worlds, until only Atlantis remained untouched. The Wraith brought their powerful weapons to bear on the city, but the Ancients' shield held. Defeated, they submerged the great city into the ocean, and the last of them fled through the gate back to Earth. There they presumabley lived out their lives, telling stories that gave rise to the legend of the lost city. It is not known if these survivors ever ascended or had any contact with the ascended Ancients.
The Stargate network proves that the Ancients were one of the universe's most advanced species many millions of years ago, and had great minds into constructing a means to disperse many thousands of Stargates across the vastness of space -- even beyond our galaxy. They even had the technology to stop the movement of time itself (on several planets at once) and reverse it a number of hours, though they were unable to perfect that particular technology. Other advanced technologies left behind by the species include a device capable of altering human DNA to bring out advanced abilities, a healing device capable of restoring life and even animating non-living tissue, and more.
What is left of the Ancients, through gaining a higher moral center after ascension, is a hierarchy of somewhat omni-present, ethereal beings who feel they must remove themselves from interaction with all cultures beneath their non-corporeal plane. To merely interact with an individual beneath is breaking their law. Assisting a lower being in discovering ascension is punished by banishment. Meddling in circumstances that change the direction of a civilization is by far the most dire offense.
As punishment for breaking this law, the Ancients have been known to wipe out entire civilizations and abandon the one responsible in the midst of the mess they have caused ("Ascension"). They have also forced (or tried to force) transgressors to descend back to corporeal form. Ancients are, by every means, capable of drastically altering courses of events at will. But, aside from their often cruel behavior, the Ancients do possess a high moral center that governs the majority's actions.
Ancients also have the ability to appear in human form or to reassume corporeal form permanently. Re-ascending then requires help from other Ancients.
Ascended beings have the ability to control weather conditions, turning a cloudless day into a hazardous lightning storm, and even using lightning as a weapon against enemies both in the air and on the ground.
Though the Ancients are not physically present, their actions have visibly altered the efforts of SG-1, among others. The Atlantis expedition is living in the Ancients' advanced city, which they were forced to abandon when the Wraith attacked thousands of years ago. Despite the fact that they are non-corporeal, they are still a powerful force to be reckoned with.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Maternal Instinct - SG-1 encounters the powerful being Oma Desala on the planet Kheb, who (along with another Ancient) helps people ascend. Absolute Power - Shifu, the Harcesis child now ascended, visits Jackson on Earth, teaching him the danger of his Goa'uld knowledge. Ascension - Carter meets another of Oma's race when Orlin -- banished by his people for interfering in another culture's development -- follows her back to Earth and reassumes human form. Meridian - Oma visits Daniel Jackson after he is exposed to a lethal dose of radiation, helping him to ascend and begin a new journey. Frozen - SG-1 finds a woman they believe to be an Ancient, who is millions of years old -- and who may hold a key to the evolution of humankind. Abyss - Daniel returns to help Jack when he is imprisoned and tortured by the Goa'uld, and offers to help him ascend. The Changeling - Teal'c, near the brink of death without his symbiote, falls into a realistic dream where he and SG-1 are fireman. The ascended Daniel Jackson incorporates himself into this dream to be a guiding light back to reality. Full Circle - Daniel Jackson, assisting SG-1 in their efforts to protect Abydos from Anubis, realizes Oma Desala’s race is the Ancients, and he is essentially an Ancient himself, and that Anubis learned to ascend but was sent back by the others. When Daniel tries to stop Anubis from destroying Abydos, Oma Desala or the others stop him. Fallen - The Ancients return Daniel to human form, wiping his memory as punishment for his transgression on Abydos. Lost City, Part 2 - SG-1 finds two abandoned Ancient outposts -- one of which is on Earth, and contains powerful drone weapons that destroy Anubis' attack fleet. Rising, Part 1 - The Atlantis expedition finds the Ancients' lost city, and learns of the tragedy that befell them at the hands of the Wraith. Hide and Seek - After an entity is set loose in Atlantis, McKay discovers that the Ancients had trapped it in order to study the ascension process.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ASCHEN An advanced human species, at least a hundred years ahead of Earth in technological development. The Aschen have, by human standards, little to no personality. They are extremely intelligent, practical and perceptive, but don't tend to have a sense of humor.
The Aschen are founders of the Aschen Confederation, an alliance of races of which little is known. This makes sense, however, as any race incorporated into the alliance is slowly erased from the face of the galaxy. The Confederation seems to be a collection of races that the Aschen have conquered, or are in the process of gradually conquering.
The Aschen utilize a genetic weapon that slowly prevents an alien species from reproducing, effectively eliminating the race over a long period of time without their knowledge until the number of the population suitable to the Aschen's goals is reached. After a society is sufficiently reduced, the Aschen have terraformed victim planets, burying the previous civilization beneath. This is done to create a world suitable for farming, to meet the requirements of the Aschen populace.
Earth narrowly avoided an alliance with the Aschen, after Dr. Daniel Jackson successfully translated a newspaper from an archive buried beneath an allied world with the aliens: "Aschen Vaccine Causes Sterility."
Until contact with S.G.C. personnel, the Aschen had no concept of the Stargate's transport capabilities, as they had been unable to activate the gate. Instead, their only stellar transport lies with their starships. The Aschen still pose a threat to Earth and its allies, although their lack of gate addresses makes it unlikely that they will be able to use the network for travel. SG-1 did give the Aschen very dangerous Stargate coordinates, the first being to a world on the edge of a black hole.
KEY EPISODE(S) - 2010 - In the near future, Earth has allied with the Aschen, who helped them defeat the Goa'uld. But the Aschen have less than admirable purposes, plotting to reduce the birth rate by over 90 percent. 2001 - Though the future SG-1 sent a message back in time to avoid first contact with the Aschen, the event happens less than one year later. But SG-1 again learns the Aschen's secret, and escape the alliance.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ASGARD One of Earth's most powerful allies, the ancient and benevolent Asgard have been aware of the Tau'ri for some time. They have assumed the personae of Norse gods on many worlds, including Cimmeria (protected by Thor's Hammer), and K'Tau, a more progressive world but still heavily immersed in Norse beliefs.
Physiologically, the Asgard average about one meter in height, with grayish skin tones, small, skinny limbs, large heads and black eyes -- bearing a striking resemblance to the Roswell Greys described in countless UFO abduction stories. The Asgard have been incapable of meiosis (sexual reproduction) for thousands of years. They have resorted to a solely enhanced mitosis (cloning) existence, forcing them down a path that will eventually lead to their extinction. Because of this, the Asgard have taken drastic steps to ensure the survival of the species, including kidnapping people from Earth to study human development.
Despite the Asgard's small physical stature, their size is no comparison to their intellect. They have successfully developed a multitude of advanced technologies that dwarf those of the Goa'uld, including faster-than-light travel that can launch an Asgard vessel from one galaxy to another in minutes.
The Asgard have established a Protected Planets Treaty with the Goa'uld System Lords, keeping planets such as Cimmeria, Earth and K'Tau safe from direct invasion. But the Goa'uld Anubis' advanced technologies (taken or adapted from the Ancients) now rival the Asgard's, allowing him to eventually ignore the treaty altogether and render it unofficially void.
A chance encounter with Colonel Jack O'Neill of Earth forced the Asgard to reexamine humans and their role in the galaxy. They had studied human beings closely, determining that the species has great potential. However, O'Neill proved to them that humans were, in fact, ready to become a part of a bigger galactic picture, and the Asgard have since designated him their representative from the human race.
All of the Asgard's technologies and intellectual capabilities have forced them to a deadlock in a battle with an artificial species in their galaxy: the Replicators. The Asgard, having exhausted all possible alternatives, have greatly depended on the Tau'ri, on more than one occasion, to render aid to the species in attempting to defeat this enemy.
The Asgard were once members of an ancient alliance with the Nox, the Furlings and the Ancients. The species is governed by the Asgard High Council, which monitors activity on protected worlds and forms decisions on actions to be taken against aggressors.
The Asgard are in the debt of Earth and have promised that, once the battle with the Replicators has ended, they will commit their resources to helping defeat the Goa'uld once and for all. They have already begun to follow up on that promise, outfitting the Prometheus with advanced shields and weapons.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Thor's Hammer - SG-1 discovers Cimmeria, an Asgard-protected planet, and encounter a holographic recording of Thor -- though they do not meet the Asgard themselves. Thor's Chariot - When SG-1 returns to Cimmeria, Jackson and Carter communicate with the real Thor, who rescues the planet from the Goa'uld Heru-ur. The Fifth Race - The library of the Ancients is downloaded into O'Neill's mind, causing him to dial a world outside our galaxy -- where he meets the Asgard face-to-face. Fair Game - Thor and the Asgard mediate negotiations between Earth and the Goa'uld System Lords, allowing Earth to be included in the Protected Planets Treaty. Point of View - SG-1 helps the SGC in an alternate universe contact the Asgard, who rescue Earth from Apophis' invasion. Nemesis - The powerful enemy of the Asgard is revealed when Replicators infest Thor's ship, taking it to Earth in an attempt to spread there. SG-1 must destroy the ship to stop the invasion. Small Victories - Major Carter joins Thor in defending an Asgard world from a Replicator invasion, finally giving them hope that their long war may not end in defeat. Red Sky - SG-1 finds another protected planet, K'Tau, and must plead for the Asgard's help when they cause a natural cataclysm. The Asgard refuse, as it would be a violation of the treaty. Fail Safe - The team uses the K'Tau hall of wisdom to ask the Asgard for help when they find a meteor on a collision course with Earth -- but without success. Revelations - The Asgard enlist SG-1's help to rescue a scientist from a world under siege by the Goa'uld -- who have defeated Thor in battle and captured him. Prometheus - SG-1 is stranded in deep space aboard the X-303 when Thor arrives to ask for their help in saving the Asgard homeworld from the Replicators. Unnatural Selection - The Asgard enlist SG-1's help to capture the now highly-evolved Replicators in a trap, giving them thousands of years to figure out what to do with them. Disclosure - Thor arrives on Earth to defend the U.S. military's operation of the Stargate program, and to outfit the Prometheus with Asgard shields and weapons as a thanks for SG-1's efforts. Lost City, Part 1 - When O'Neill downloads the Ancients' knowedge into his brain again, the S.G.C. once again tries to contact the Asgard, but without success. New Order, Part 1 - Teal'c and Carter travel to the Asgard galaxy Othalla, where the Asgard have created a black hole to try and destroy the Replicators -- without success. New Order, Part 2 - Thor saves O'Neill from the Ancients' knowledge in his mind, and the team helps defend the last Asgard world from a Replicator invasion, giving them a powerful weapon against their technological foes.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ATHOSIANS An agrarian society that long-resided on the planet Athos in the Pegasus Galaxy. Their leader is Teyla Emmagan, daughter of Tagan. Following the arrival of the Tau'ri from the recently re-discovered city of Atlantis and a Wraith attack, the surviving Athosians returned with Major John Sheppard and his team to Atlantis. There the displaced people lived for several weeks, until relocating to a nearby continent on the Atlantis planet to begin a new life.
At first glance the Athosians might not appear technologically advanced, but they have certainly enhanced the most simplistic of chores in their daily lives with the use of small and conceilable technology, such as the fire-starter. They are not technologically unadvanced, as they appear to be, but rather choose not to advance too far for fear that it will bring the Wraith down upon them. The Athosians possess keen intellects and abilities, and some among them can even sense the Wraith when they are near.
The Athosians are a deeply spiritual people who pray to the "ancestors," referring to the Ancients. They mastered Stargate travel long ago, and some, such as Teyla and Halling, have served as guides to Atlantis reconnaissance teams when travelling to other planets in their galaxy.
Athosians are not quick to trust, but have found a soft spot for the people of Earth. They are well-versed in the coordinates of several planets with Stargates, but never have they come across one that has not been besieged by the Wraith.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Rising, Part 1 - The Athosians are introduced to humans from another galaxy, but the Wraith soon attack their world. Rising, Part 2 - Following the Wraith attack the Athosians resettle in Atlantis, while Major Sheppard leads a team to rescue Teyla and the others captured. Hide and Seek - The Athosians attempt to settle in to a new life in Atlantis. Thirty Eight Minutes - Halling and the Athosians attempt to conduct a death ritual for Teyla, but Weir does not allow it because she does not want to give up on their people. Suspicion - Weir suspects a traitor among the Athosians, and they are outraged that the humans from Earth do not trust them. When a nearby continent is discovered, the Athosians happily relocate there -- though Teyla chooses to stay in Atlantis.
and for your fun:some world:
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ABYDOS First world visited by the U.S. military when the Stargate was reopened in the 1990s, and believed to be the closest to Earth in the vast Stargate network. The world is believed to be completely desert.
Abydos is home to a thriving agrarian population of desert dwelling humans, abducted from Earth by Ra several thousand years ago. The planet was one of Ra's base of operations, where the population mined naquadah to quench his technological thirsts. After Earth's Stargate was buried, Ra, fearful of an uprising on Abydos, outlawed reading and writing.
The Abydonian leader is Kasuf. Abydos is orbited by three moons, which inform the Stargate symbol for their world. At least two non-human species are native to Abydos. The Mastadge looks like a combination of a buffalo and a horse, and possesses a keen sense of smell. The creature has been domesticated by the Abydonians. Abydos is also home to a relatively small, horned reptile, which the Abydonians use for nourishment.
KEY EPISODE(S) - "Stargate" the movie - Colonel Jack O'Neill leads a pioneering team through the Stargate, and help to liberate Abydos from the rule of the Goa'uld Ra. Children of the Gods - A year after Ra's destruction in orbit of Abydos, a new enemy, Apophis, arrives and abducts Sha're and Skaara, Kasuf's children. Secrets - One Abydos year to the day, Daniel Jackson returns to the desert planet only to discover that Sha're has already returned, and is pregnant with the child of Apophis. Forever In a Day - SG-1 responds to the latest Goa'uld threat on the world of Abydos, and finds that Apophis' queen, Amonet, has returned for Sha're's child. Absolute Power - Kasuf summons SG-1 to Abydos to investigate a mysterious presence -- the arrival of Shifu, Sha're's ascended son. Full Circle - Abydos, under the threat of the Goa'uld Anubis, is obliterated -- but not before the entire population ascends, with help from Oma Desala.
New home world of the surviving Talthuns, who escaped the destruction of their world of Talthus when a dark star caused a massive solar flare. The Stromos was bound for this world, along with two other vessels, but was crash-landed on P2A-347 instead. It is not known if her two sister ships reached Ardena. It is also not known if a Stargate exists on Ardena, though it is possible.
Based on the speed of the Stromos, the journey between Talthus and Ardena would take hundreds of years.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Lifeboat - SG-1 encounters a crash-landed vessel that had been bound for a planet called Ardena.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ATHOS Homeworld of the Athosians, a small agrarian population. Athos was routinely under siege by Wraithculling parties until John Sheppard evacuated Teyla's village to Atlantis for safe harbor following a Wraith attack.
The Athosians regard the Ancients -- who likely first seeded their world with human life -- as "the ancestors," and they play an important role in Athosian religious beliefs.
Not far from the Athosians' village is an ancient city which appears to possess more advanced technology than that which the Athosians retain in their nomadic village. Colonel Marshall Sumner and his team from Earth was unable to explore it before the Wraith attacked. Several kilometers from the village lies a hidden chamber where Teyla believes her decedents once hid from the Wraith. It is covered in writings and images depicting previous attacks.
It is not known if any other Athosian villages remained behind on the planet following the most recent Wraith attack, after which the Athosians in Teyla's village relocated to Atlantis.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Rising, Part 1 - Sumner and his team travel to Athos in the hopes of locating additional Zero Point Modules to power Atlantis, but the planet is attacked by the Wraith. Rising, Part 2 - Following the Wraith attack, the Athosian survivors leave their homeworld for Atlantis.
THE STARGATE OMNIPEDIA ATLANTIS, PLANET OF The planet where Atlantis, the lost city of the Ancients, slumbered underwater for many thousands of years following the Ancients' devestating war with the Wraith. The war led to a Wraith assault on the planet -- which was the center of Ancient activity in the Pegasus Galaxy.
Not long after the arrival of the Atlantis expedition from Earth, the city's power reached critical lows and an automated mechanism rose the city to the surface to prevent its destruction -- though it left the city vulnerable to attack from above.
A large portion of the planet's surface is water, and the raised city now sits as an island amidst a great ocean. Near the city -- only 25 minutes away by Puddle Jumper -- is a large continent. After it was discovered, the Athosian refugees in Atlantis decided to resettle there, in order to start a new life in relative safety from the Wraith. They are still able to communicate with the city, where the planet's Stargate is located.
KEY EPISODE(S) - Rising, Part 1 - The Earth team travels to Atlantis and discovers that the city is on a planet with no signs of land. Rising, Part 2 - When the city runs out of power, the city automatically rises to the surface of the planet -- where it sits unprotected. Suspicion - Sheppard and Ford explore the planet with a Puddle Jumper, and discover a land mass near Atlantis -- to which the Athosians resettle.
well that was the repository for today.
brings an invasion fleet to Earth and attempts to dissuade the President of the United States from resisting. His ship is later destroyed, and Anubis is presumed dead.
