Winter Music

cigarettes in the cold.

we don’t know where our breath

separates from smoke.

 

we watch icicles that will not drip.

 

church bells ring,

       seep into shelves of snow.

everything is quiet.

 

no one is awake.

 

footprints disturb the sidewalk’s sheet.

two pairs.

                        we are the only ones.
