NEWS AND VIEWS OF OPSEU LOCAL 719 - Kenora Jail

IMPORTANT NEWS

We are still eagerly awaiting the final stages of the Rollovers. In a personal discussion with MERC Co-Chair Eddie Almeida, it was learned  that there are some dates set aside in early November to discuss the rollovers but it is anticipated that MERC may be presenting further proposals before then. Management has only released partial documentation on the status of the decison making process.

AWESOME NEWS!!!!

Local 719 took the "Best Local Website AWARD  - Category A" at the 2009 Editors' Weekend held in Toronto  October 23rd through 25th. This category is for locals with up to 250 members. The judging was done by Ms. D. Wilson, a freelance editor, artist and former educator at the University of Guelph. Ms. Wilson stated that she liked the warmth and ease of viewing of our site. The only mild criticism was that she would have liked to have seen more photographs. Members can consider this a call for submissions.

Region 7 hauled away 10 different awards. Great job everyone!

And speaking of awesome news...

The Charity Barbecues were a tremendous success again this past summer and early fall. A final donation of over $2300 was made to Kenora Handi-Transit.

In a thank you letter from the director of Handi-Transit there were kind words for all those people involved in making it a great success. Although not a union driven exercise, the local was proud to have played a part in the venture. We look forward to contributing again next year.
