Haydenville Cemetery

As we tried to find the Haydenville Tunnel we had to cross this small quaint cemetery that was around 100 years old. These were hard working people that loved thier community. We are still checking on the rumors of a man that died in the tunnel and a girl that was killed....wonder if they are buried in the cemetery?? Nothing unusal about the place. As a matter of fact it was kinda calm and soothing, I know it was a cemetery but thats the way it made me feel. Nothing compared to the tunnel which was very creepy. We saw several childrens headstones all lined up in a row, sad. We posted pictures on our photo page.
It was around 3 in the afternoon and the air was crisp and clear. No wind and very few clouds. No emfs or eveps to report.
Located between Jackson and Chauncy outside of Athens was the site of the worst coal mine disaster in this area.
People waiting to hear news about thier loved ones.
"Eighty-two men lost their lives in the explosion of methane gas which had accumulated and the disaster was caused by a short circuit between the trolley wire and rail, according to a finding by the Athens County coroner, L. F. Jones." (Harris History)
"Maximum death awards from Ohio's workman's compensation was $6,500 which was also given to injured survivors. The state of Ohio fund also paid for the funeral costs and burials of the men." ( Athens Messenger)
Death's grim toll in the Sunday Creek Coal Company's No. 6 Mine explosion at Millfield Wednesday noon reached 79 this morning as rescue workers, after toiling incessantly 21 hours in gas filled tunnels, removed the last body from the scene of Athens County's worse mine catastrophe. (Athens Messenger)
We actually couldn't find the exact site of the mine. We were all very disappointed because the place was nothing but a field ...its a true shame. Something ought to be done to turn that place into a historical site..wait a minute it is..its just embarassing to see it the way it is. We walked around and tried to do some evps , photos. ect..but didn't get anything. There was a feeling of sadness there, a heavy presence.

Haydenville Revisited
We went back to the tunnel in Haydenville again this weekend. The weather was perfect with a blue sky and bright sunshine. We went with another team S.O.S Seekers Of Spirits who are located in that area. Four of us went and we took our basic equipment, digital recorders, digital cameras and a EMF detector. It went pretty fast actually we were in and out before we knew it. We are now going over the evidence and I will post recent photos and anything we find to the site in a couple days
No evps or emfs to report, we did get some interesting photos...take a look on our photo page
On November 7th a few of us will be going to the prison to do a private investigation. I have never been to this place but from what people have shared and what I saw on the show Ghost Hunters it sure looks interesting!! It starts at 8pm and ends at 6am.
I will post all evidence as soon as I can so keep stopping by and see what we might have captured
We arrived late due to bad directions, but it was only a couple and they did let us in. You first go through large metal gates that are new and electrical. Then you drive up a long driveway toward the prison. It looks like a castle, so beautiful, the work that was done to this place is amazing. We immedintly go to work investigating this huge reformatory. The first room we went to was what looked like a music room or a worship place. It turned out to be a music hall where the inmates would entertain outside guest. Randy felt something right away in the room and walked directly up on stage. He said he was here and on the stage and wondered if it bothered anyone. I was trying to take pictures...now mind you I just put brand new batteries in every piece of equipment we had, well the camera wouldn't work. After only a few moments he said the feeling was gone, then the camera started working!
The place is such an oxymoron, the building is awesome, the woodwork inside is all handmade and magnificant. Ceilings are ten feet high with window about eight feet. Wooden floors in some room and in others had slate floors. Then you get to the cages, cells of the inmates. That was a stark contrast to what we were seeing before. Very small cells with two bunks and one toilet. The paint is peeling bad all around which gave it a look like dead rotting skin coming off the place.
On the sixth tier of cells Randy saw a shadow that came out and went into a cell behind us. He could tell this buy a light that was on the wall at the end of the walk, when the shadow walked between it and us you could see it interupt the light.
