The Nurse Who Loved Me - 'Here, Again, Somewhere' (Big Meat Records)
Not content in unleashing the beast that was 2007's 'In This Room' album, Nurse have put this little 7 track bad boy out to wet the taste buds for what we can expect in the future. 'Here, Again, Somewhere' is a progression from 'In This Room' which is obvious from the moment opening track 'Hear The Squad' blasts out the speakers. Stuttering drums lead into a trademark Nurse chorus, but it all sounds so much bigger and bolder. 'Inside Down (Head's Not Right)' follows with it's bass fuzz heavy verse and groaning backing vocals, possibly slightly haunting with some tasty atmospherics. It's Nurse, but not as we know it. 'Cannot Compare' is just that. Imagine Dick Dale being bashed around by the Foo's and that gives an idea of the lead riff. Stand out has to be 'We All Stand Alone'. With a nod towards Radiohead, it's possibly one of the most fragile up-temp songs Nurse have ever done. Very, very impressive. Blissful lead guitar riffs and trippy drums makes it a summer chill out song in the making. 'Beat Me Sensible' is a tad more experimental with effects galore and a head nodding riff to complement the "don't be so miserable" chorus. The heaviest song by far on this album has to be 'The Crunch'. A bitter, twisted sneer of a song with a big filthy bastard of a riff. It's trademark Nurse at their heaviest but with a very bitter bite. Album closer 'Never Enough', with it's vocal harmony/keyboard/bass fuzz intro gets into a slow burning groove to give a tidy dreamy ending to collection of varied and emphatic songs.
This is no mean a stop gap for album number 3. This is a collection of songs that stand out in their own right, and the way Nurse are progressing with their sound, album number 3 will be an even bigger monster. Download this from iTunes today and be prepared to be amazed.
