Character info

Rouge is 17 years of age. She measures 3'5" tall. She has similiar attacks as Knuckles, except she specializes in kicking. Rouge is a treasure hunter who is determined to make all the gems and treasures of the world hers—and bases her tactics on prospective profit. Current jewel obsessions are the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds. She is also a government spy, and is dispatched on missions occasionally; but Rouge is a thief above all else, and in Sonic Battle, uses her position to gather more info on treasures that she can steal. She's also the owner of Club Rouge. In Sonic X, she becomes a government agent to avoid jail time for a heist.

Love life

It's official that Rouge has a crush on Knuckles. She can see his strong determination towards his duties, which makes her feelings for him even stronger. He likes her as well, but they're both too stubborn and too devoted to their respective jobs (jewel thief vs. protector of the Master Emerald) to admit their feelings for each other, but she does flirt with him a lot. On the other hand she does act flirtatious towards Sonic as well, and she likes to tease Tails making him blush a lot. She flirts with the others just to be a tease, adding to her already mysterious nature, but her actions towards Knuckles are somewhat genuine.

In Sonic Battle, Rouge drops hints that she likes Shadow the Hedgehog; she actually calls him "not bad-looking," and lets him live with her after lacking a place to stay. Most would shrug this behavior off thinking of it as something charitable, and a part of her nature like many other people's. However, Rouge's nature usually isn't charitable; she is in fact very self-centered most of the time, which makes this instance quite peculiar. Although she is not normally charitable, Shadow did save her life when she was stuck inside Security Hall, (as well as everyone else's back on Earth and A.R.K. by sacrificing himself) and this could be the reason of this first charitable act. Though whether feelings that aroused this course of action are romantic or platonic is an opinionated conclusion. So it's safe to say that Rouge and Shadow have a sort of brother-sister relationship.

In Sonic X, when she first established the business transactions on helping Eggman and Shadow find the Chaos Emeralds, she seemed oddly interested in Shadow, she also called him, "charming." However, she was interested in him only because it was her mission: to find out whether or not the claims of his being the "Ultimate Life Form" were true.

Perhaps a future Sonic game will tell us more of Rouge's feelings towards either Shadow or Knuckles. It still remains to be seen.

Game appearances

She has appeared in games including Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Battle, and Sonic Heroes (where she leads Team Dark as their flight member); and in the Sonic the Hedgehog Comics. She will also appear in Shadow the Hedgehog. Whether it's as friend or foe is up to Shadow (and you).

Personality

On the outside Rouge is an ambitious, vain, flirty, manipulative, calculating tell-it-like-it-is female who to most people would see as only caring for herself and her gems. However, Sonic Battle would indicate that she can be fairly caring and sympathetic to her friends/comrades (ex: aiding Shadow by letting him live with her and her almost motherly behavior towards Emerl), and in Sonic Heroes, she is a leaderlike figure who constantly manages to stop Shadow and Omega from killing each other.

Overall, she would do something if the world were in trouble (ex: stopping an attack by Dr. Eggman), which is why she is not always considered a "bad guy." Only problem is, her appearance and overall demeanor often contradicts that fact. So does her loves for jewels. Rouge could be considered a heroine if she didn't steal.

Other information

In Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes and Sonic Battle, she was voiced by Lani Minella.

In the Sonic X anime, she is voiced by Kathleen Delaney, who will be doing the voice in newer games, starting with Shadow the Hedgehog.

Her japanese Seiyuu is Ochiai Rumi.
