What you say about your campaign:

For 17 years I have been bred, harvested, in The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith. The politics within the edifice resemble a hierarchy all to similar to that installed in our nation. The finances of my church are large and well hidden, its distribution is vague and networked by committee members who were hired not by the general assembly, but by elders, ministers and deacons. I must separate myself form a community that is ruled by fear. The assembly is manipulated by Bishop Omega who uses the bible to justify the corruption of the Apostolic power bloc that benefits him and the self righteous henchmen he calls elders, deacons and ministers.

What your opponents say about your position on the issue:

My opponents are everyone how stands in alliance with Bishop Omega Shelton, the national assembly. They believe that I am tainted by the secular world. They blame my friends, my teachers and family members outside of the church body. The bible is written by God and to disagree with one word in the bible, one punctuation, is to disagree with the entire bible. Such an offense is believed to be evil, nothing short of satanic influence. I believe they pity me for my position because in their minds I?m jeopardizing my chance to be saved and have eternal life.

What you say about your opponents? position on the issue:

They really don?t care about me or what I stand for as long as long is it isn?t imposed on them and the children they are breeding to become the future of the church. I find it funny that they wholeheartedly see my actions as a hell bound offense. This is a judgement to be made by God. Who are they to dictate God?s will? It may in fact be God?s will for me to fight against the government of my church by producing this very document. To them everything is in God?s will, including the misfortune, exploitation and injustice in the world. This strips them of any responsibility to fight to change anything that his hindering civilization.

What your opponents say about your campaign:

My opponents live by the phrase, "we?re in the world, but not of it". The members of my church believe they are some how superior to those outside the church, therefore they don?t indulge in the secular world. Evidently they do follow they the laws and submit to the government of the secular world. They have bosses, they vote they pay taxes, they invest in products produced by exploited workers and they support homophobia as well as the objectification of women. Women in the church have no voice, their duty is to cook, clean and decorate. Moreover, they have adopted so many ways of the world, specifically financing and banking, that they have become what they had chosen to isolate themselves from.

- Force Field Analysis

Negative Forces

  • On several occasions my mother has stated that the church brings her the most joy in the world and I can never take it away from her. If I don?t obey her and attend church, which I haven?t done in the past for weeks, I could get kicked out of the house. M
  • My absence won?t change anything within the church. I could at least start by persuading my brother to not attend church, but once I?m gone he will be highly influenced by the elders, deacons and ministers to begin to despise me. S
  • Many people, young and old alike, look up to me and want me to follow in my fathers footsteps and become an esteemed official in the church. In a sense I?d be dishonoring my father?s name and further, leading to the speculation that my mother is doing a bad job raising me and my brother. S
  • In the past 10 years the church has been producing videos, if I were to leave may miss the opportunity to learn some valuable film pointers. W
  • My entire family is pretty much devoted to The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith, I may loose my entire family?s trust. M

Positive Forces

  • I could finally have 2 day weekends. M
  • Save money, my church demands too much financially. I could invest the saved money into an activity that benefits myself as well as those who need help?activism is born. S
  • Its about time I let my mother know what my morals are so she doesn?t persist to impose her morals on me. She needs to see that the church she is attending is isolating her and making her emotionally complacent toward the world. As a woman in the church her role is small and insignificant, she is a pair of hands and a purse. It will stay this way as long as Bishop Omega is in power. S
  • I?ll no longer be forced to travel to one of the 72 churches all across the country. M
  • Get from under the power sucking hands of the elders deacons and ministers, I have enough oppressors outside of the church. M
  • If I get kicked out of the house my sister would take me in. She was in the same position when she was 17, she?d take me in if worse comes to worse. W

- Reflection

At this very moment it is 7:31 PM, Monday may 31st 2004. My mother and

brother have returned home from the end of the Memorial Day weekend church

gathering, which I was supposed to head out to on Sunday, yesterday. I received

a phone call this evening around 7:15, it was my brother. he was giving me the

heads up that they were close to home and he instructed me to come outside to

help with the luggage. I got dressed, hoodie, boots and jeans, and headed out. I

put the hood up and approached the street where I saw my mother, my brother

and a guy from church were pulling luggage out of the trunk. As I got closer I put

my head down, I don?t think they even recognized me at this time, I mean ? I

haven?t worn that particular hoodie in a while. As an extra measure of precaution

I tucked the bottom left corner of my lip under the left corner my upper lip. I took

whatever bags were handed to me and scurried back home to avoid contact with

my mother as well as my brother, there was no need to make a scene outside ?

in the rain. Long story short to this very moment, 7:45 PM, Monday may 31st

2004 neither my brother nor my mother have noticed the piercing.

At this time I?ll take the opportunity to say a few words about the over all

project by responding to each section;

Force Field Analysis: This section of the project seemed to make me more

vulnerable. By critiquing my campaign I could see my strengths and weakness,

what I am willing and not willing to sacrifice in order to complete my campaign. I

had a soft spot for my family, I found myself reluctant to jeopardize their positive

reputation. I want the be the black sheep with a cause, I guess I?m still attempting

to shape that cause.

Message Box: This is where I unleashed the fury of my campaign. It consisted

of off the book remarks that ended up in the book, if you catch my drift. I basically

reflected upon what I have been exposed to in the past 17 years, in a fashion

that couldn?t be more honest.

Graphic Organizer #1: Overall this section wasn?t too helpful. There were ideas

written down that I didn?t follow through with either because they were too far

fetched and required actions outside of my general conduct towards my fellow

man or they wouldn?t get the point across and nothing would be immediately

changed in a span of 3-4 days.

Graphic Organizer # 2: Everything should be ignored, all but for the research

questions, mainly because I really wanted to know the answers rather than

generate questions that I knew the answers to because I predicted the answers

would be exciting.

Summary/Bibliography: All of my sources were primary and produced by my

opponents so I enjoyed poking wholes into my oppositions point of view. The

greatest source had to be the finance report. In 2000 I began working with the

brothers department, punching numbers into the computer. Clinton Childs was

my supervisor and general money record keeper for the brothers department.

Some time ago I swiped a disk, no worries, for it was a copy. Now, here I am

today exposing one of the many best kept secrets in my church. Thanks to the

disk and the averages and statistics Clinton Childs gave me, for the first

time, I can estimate the amount of money my church makes. The next step is to

find out ultimately where it?s going and how it?s distributed because I believe that

there is in fact a surplus that the Bishop Omega is directly benefiting from.

- Bishop Omega
  • Bishop Omega Shelton. 95/96 concord. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith, 1996.

Who is Bishop Omega Yediduth Limmud Shelton? Page two of the

Concord introduces him through the eyes of the congregation. The description

reflects him as the holiest of holy, the leader of all men. All the corresponding

images on the page depict him as wide eyed philosopher who is eager to seize

the day and save the world. The paragraph states,

"Yediduth Limmud", Hebrew for beloved disciple, is just that?the Dearly Beloved Disciple of Jesus Christ and a Formidable defender of His Gospel. In the relatively short time since ascending to the seat of Apostal and General Overseer [hierarchy] of the church of the lord Jesus Christ of the apostolic faith (once occupied by his father, His Holy Apostolic Blessedness, Bishop S. McDowell Shelton Shelton), Bishop Omega has unified and edified the congregation as never before. He has freed and enlightened us, expounding the grace and exhibiting the love of Jesus Christ. A sterling example to the saints as a family man, a strong leader and formidable adversary in defense of the faith, Bishop Omega?s ministry is far reaching. He has carried the word of God around the world, introducing it to great men of the world, including President Nelson Mandela of South Africa; King Hussein of Jordan; and late Israeli Prime Minister , Yitzhak Rabin. God has given us the victory. Thank the Lord for Bishop Omega! Long live the King (Concord 2).

Based on this description he seems to be a man divinity, a man who has

accomplished much academically and shook a few socially esteemed hands.

This status given to him is almost matched to the likes of Jesus, I feel as though

the comparison is evident. If he has freed and enlightened so many around the

entire world why haven?t all of man kind joined our congregation to create a

utopian society or elect him to power? Why is the congregation 99.9% black?

This isn?t the first recorded reference to Bishop Omega as a king among men, his

father was identified as the King over the congregation?

  • Church of The Lord Jesus Christ (Bishop S. McDowell Shelton). A Dedicated And Extraordinary Man. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ of The Apostolic Faith, 1992

Before his father, Bishop S. McDowell Shelton, died, the saints used a verse

from II Chronicles 23:3 to Yediduth Limmud Shelton, an elder at the time. the

verse was to the right of a picture on page twelve captioned, "Bishop Omega

admiring his Blessedness and Father [S. McDowell Shelton]", the verse stated,

"?Behold, the king?s son shall reign, as the Lord hath said of David (Shelton

12)". Through out the book many biblical texts are associated with both Sheltons.

In the same book there is a poem/song written by the late "Blessedness",

it outlines this duty as a man, boldly placing himself above all men,

This is the will of God concerning me,

This is the will of God concerning me,

God willed that his holy divine prophet be,

His spokesman here in earth and for eternity,

To serve him without any thought of his prophet?s own life,

To take up a knife and sacrifice his own life.

For only one reason God has given me birth,

To preach the one apostolic faith doctrine,

To the sinful earth.

As mine anointed

Mine anointed

You shall stay.

You shall not even consider the have your own way,

Ye shall go wither I send you,

And do whatever I say.

Two words come to mind, CULT LEADER, the last two lines outline the

duty of the congregation.

  • King James, Bible?

In March during the 50th National 47th International convention Bishop

Omega Invited Major John Street of Philadelphia to speak take is place on the

altar to speak to the congregation about his plans for the community. After the

Mayor wrapped up his levity filled speech Bishop Omega came forward to

preach, this was the day I began to question the content of the bible and see it

more as a tool to oppress mankind rather than enlighten. Bishop Omega read

from 1st Peter starting at the second chapter and thirteenth verse,

13Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. 16Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God. 17Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king (1 Peter 2:13-2:16)

This quote instructs all believers to trust in God, for all who are elected to

a position of power were put there by God and all of their actions are influenced

by God. This is the reason why there is a lack of activism in my church

community and this is the reason why I haven?t "acted" in seventeen years, at

one point I subconsciously believed this. All the elements of evil that thrive in our

government, desire for domination, narcissism, hypocrisy, projection, lies and

dehumanization, are supposed to exist in the government because the oligarchy

is elected by God. To protest the government and its policies is to protest God,

which is blasphemy. This is the reason for them lack of activism, lack of social

empathy and emotional complacency in what was once my church. I can no

longer be a part of this ideology, therefore I am not.

TOTALS

$1,827.00

$50.00

This is an actual list of the first sunday payments towards the men?s conference.

The fee is $300.00 and the love offering is $50.00. On the list there are roughly

50 brothers, by the end of the week all of the payments were in, that means

around $17,500 dollar was collected form the New York City church and wired to

Headquarters in Philadelphia. Now keep in mind, The Church Of the Lord Jesus

Christ of The Apostolic Faith is made up of 72 churches throughout the united

states. There is an average of 80 brothers per church, this was aquired from

Brother Clinton Childs. The men?s conference is making an estimated

$2,016,000 from the males alone. The females out number the males 3:1 and

pay a total 200 dollar men?s conference convention fee. Where is all this money

going?
