FAMILY: Charlotte Patterson (mother), Jack Patterson (father), Albert Patterson (uncle)

BIO: On August 19, 1852, Charlotte Patterson gave birth to a young baby boy, whom she named Auburn for his dark-red hair.  Shortly after Auburn was born, his father Jack abandoned the Pattersons, leaving Charlotte to raise her son with her brother Albert.  Auburn, during his childhood, was very sweet & friendly.  Not to mention he was very smart, always getting good grades in his classes.  As soon as he graduated from high school, his proud mother enrolled him in Oxford.  However, much to Charlotte’s dismay, Auburn dropped out of Oxford during his junior year to work in London as a comedian.

Auburn was quite successful in his brief career as a stand-up comic, getting gigs at the hottest bars & nightspots.  But there was one gig that would change his life forever...

It was a cold night in 1879.  Auburn, now 27 years old, was busy telling jokes to the crowd at the Rat Trap, when suddenly, the bartender collapsed & died of a massive heart attack.  Saddened by the bar’s loss, Auburn gave up his joke-telling job, & took up the position of the bartender.

Auburn worked at the Rat Trap for the next 18 years, where he not only filled customers’ orders & mixed drinks, but also managed the place & tried his best to break up any brawls.  During that time, he also made close friends with the performers & the Rat Trap Band, as well as the barmaid Evelyn Rosedale.

Later, in summer of 1897, when the Rat Trap turned into a family restaurant, Auburn decided to work as the co-manager & co-owner with Evelyn, as well as the headwaiter & main chef.  He can still be seen there today, chatting with the patrons as he helps run the place.

Sweet & kind beyond all reason, Auburn Patterson has the biggest heart you’ll find at the Rat Trap, fawning over little babies & playing around with the children who go to his restaurant.  There is not a moment in time that you will see Auburn act cruel or malicious towards others, especially Evelyn, who happens to be his secret heartthrob.  (But don’t tell anyone...*wink*)  However, in spite of his warm personality & gentle manners, the normally-good-natured Auburn can change face & become a gruff & stubborn ogre with a glower on his face & irritated words pouring from his mouth, especially when he’s out of sorts.  And to make things less pleasant for everyone, Auburn tends to get upset over the little things, like being called “Aubie” by anyone other than family.

Despite his short temper & easily-irritated disposition, however, the irksome knight in shining armor that is Auburn still tries his best to be courteous, polite, & a good neighbor to all.  This two-faced character usually proves himself to be jolly & gay, with a good sense of humor to boot; however, like any sensible mouse, he does not care for prank phone calls, especially the many that are directed at him.  One of the most-loved qualities about Auburn, of course, is his great intelligence, considering his aforementioned good grades & acceptance into Oxford.  He often uses his brains to teach his friends valuable lessons, tell children interesting tidbits, & even give his beloved Evelyn an education.

Despite his shortcomings, Auburn Patterson is a friendly mouse, & may be approached without caution.

Auburn Patterson, though mostly my own original character (if you call a GMD minor character “original”), did have two character models.  The first was Moe Szyslak (pictured left), from “The Simpsons”, who lent Auburn his gruff, yet genial nature, as well as his talent for telling jokes.  Sam Malone (from “Cheers”, pictured right) was Auburn’s second character model—mainly for his great sense of humor & his crush on a barmaid (in Auburn’s case, Evelyn).
