so i've decide to release portions of my game as little miniature demos. so first off is a method for determining which piece of food an enemy should go after: demo source
[space] adds food squares which can be dragged around. the circle is the enemy bot and the red line indicates its choice.

the worm follows your mouse.

the goal is to eat and grow larger.

once you have eaten enough you lay a purple egg
when you eat the egg you progress to the editor where you make your worm evolve.

to evolve your creature you spend money on different aspects of your worm in the different layers.

to increase or decrease your body length use the arrows on the skeleton layer (you'll know you're in the skeleton layer if you press the [skeleton] button and nothing happens), to add tentacles or jets click the [T] or [J] button then mouse over the joint you wish to place it on. (a blue dot represents a tentacle, purple represents jets.)

you can only have up to three total limbs on any given segment but as long as you have the money you can have as many segments as you like

to adjust the length of your worm without adding or removing any of the joints just click and drag on the node farthest to the left untill you like the length (remember the only realistic representation is when the zoom is at 100% so dont get confused.) to fiddle with the body shape click the [body shape] button and then use the scroll wheel to adjust thickness on the highlighted region (highlight follows mouse)

to adjust the lengths of the tentacles in the limb layer just move your mouse so the appropriate section is illuminated and use the scroll wheel to lengthen or shorten it. you can also adjust the thickness by clicking and scrubbing the mouse up and down

as of yet the color editor is unfinished because you cant choose what color you want a section to be. the coloring work by setting a few 'keyframes' (the first and last are always key'd) evidenced by a red highlight. the program uses those key frames and fills in a gradient on the non keys. simply click a node to change it from key to non and back. to change the color of a node click on the grey dot then use the red green and blue sliders to adjust the color, press the grey button to close the color box (though this is not necessary) (you can only edit a color if the node is key'd).

you can switch back and forth between layers at anytime and if something strange happens you can normally fix it by jumping back and forth.

once you've customized your creature hit ok and go eat some more food.

* if it isnt working just click anywhere in it to make it pay attention to you then try again.

if you would like to tell me your opinion on my unfinished game please do so over on the gaming steve forums.
just remember: this is a work in progress so things will have glitches, things will be unbalanced, and you will have a problem of two with it. if you dont like something dont just tell me you dont like it, tell me why you dont like it and what you'd like to see in its place.
