From the end of December and into January, many bugs and errors from this thread were fixed, there are too many fixes to note individually. These bugs and errors were all a result of the new servers added to the game on December the 27th. During the rollover of January the 1st, a new trophy called Look Ma, No Pants was added for those who werent wearing pants at the time. This was highly criticised as only those online at the time had notification (Jick posted a clue in a sytem message), though this criticism was dampened when Mr Skullhead posted a response in the 'New Trophy Discovered' thread on the 2nd of January. The trophy is called 'Pantsless' in profiles. On January the 2nd, Crimbo Town mysteriously vanished from the game. It has been rumoured that it will not be returning again, but trying to adventure there with the Last Adventure link seemed to say otherwise. The explanation about the disappearance was: 'Uncle Crimbo and his elves have apparently agreed to a new work contract, and the weeks-long Crimbo strike has ended. Inside sources say that included among the concessions made by Uncle Crimbo to the elves were a "footstool slush fund" and "access to the 'grown-up' eggnog." Details regarding the long-awaited Elvish Dentistry School education vouchers are sketchy at this time' Also on the 2nd of January, two bugs were fixed. The first bug made players who had already completed the Altar Of Literacy have to re-take it. Whereas the second was were hardcore/path restrictions were not being cleared upon freeing the king. Also on the 2nd of January, the 'Enable Right Click Menu In Chat' briefly appeared in peoples account menus, it was hastily removed, and currently, it's function was unknown at the time. Also on the 2nd of January, there was the third meetup in London in under a month. The event was a toast to CheekyJez's emigration to the United States. There was drinking, and drinking, and drinking. People in attendance were CheekyJez, Grayson, Soulcake, Kitchwing, Mortice, Tagliatelle, Cfm, Fifikatana, Watercolourdreams and Kitsune_Tsuki. The thread for the meetup can be found here. On the 3rd of January, Valentine's Day was celebrated again, there were some poems available that I haven't seen before, but I do not know whether they are new this time around or not. A comma signifys a line break. Mariachi Calavera - Mi amor para ti, Es sin todo cuidado, He caido por ti, Como en un piso mojado. Lumberjack - I think you're so neat, eh?, You're lacking in flaws, Come up to my tent, eh?, We can swap bras. The Naughty Sorceress - Come be with me, honey, We'll be happy thereafter, With the crushing of fools, And maniacal laughter. Vegan Hippy Chef - Our chakras align, We're, like, so meant to be, I promise my love, Will be cruelty-free. Senile Lihc - My love is like pancakes, Like carrots and commas, Happy -- wait, where am I?, Go fetch my pajamas! Rushing Bum - You're right up my alley, Like Mad Train, you're sweet, Happy Valentine's Day, Got any spare meat? Also, on this Valentine's Day, the clan Iocaine Powder initiated a Valentine's Day massacre, taking all thirty places on the hardcore PvP leaderboard. An image of this can be found here. January the 3rd also saw the creation of the KolView website, made by Sgt Sord. The website was mainly all sorts of polls about Kol and can be gotten to via this thread. It went down soon after. Also on January the 3rd, a new announcement was posted that explained about why there would be downtime later in the day. It read: 'The new data center is doing some sort of equipment reboot tonight (Wednesday morning at 1:00 MST) that they say will result in about ten minutes of downtime. Just a heads up' Also on January the 3rd, the Ring Of Flame forum mysteriously disappered and was replaced by Teh Booth, a forum where only moderators could post threads and editing was disabled. The reason was due to a quality-declining RoF. On January the 4th, January's special of the month became available for one Mr. Accessory. The Tome Of Snowcome Summoning, when used, gave you a new permanent skill that allowed you to make three of six snowcones every day. The snowcones gave effective effects, without damaging any of your consumption stats. Effects didn't stack, as you couldn't use/make another snowcone whilst you have the effect of another one on. Here are the effects of each snowcone: Black Snowcone - Black Tongue (Effects of all five 'Tongue' effects) Blue Snowcone - Blue Tongue (+25% Item Drops) Green Snowcone - Green Tongue (+5lbs Familiar Weight) Orange Snowcone - Orange Tongue (+10lbs of Volleyball) Purple Snowcone - Purple Tongue (Heals after battle) Red Snowcone - Red Tongue (+25% Meat Drops) Also on the 4th of January, the three new familiars from the Crimbo Holiday were finally given haikus. For more than a week that had sat without. A // signifys a line break. Pet Rock - A passive pebble // It is not a rolling stone // It might gather moss. Snowy Owl - How many talons // Does it take to thrash a foe? // Let's ask Mr. Owl. Teddy Bear - Need some protection? // Let him be your teddy bear // Better him than you. Also on January the 4th, the Ring Of Flame's name and description were changed again! The new name this time was the Seekrit Squirrel Forum, and its new description was: 'Eventually to be the RoF 'Museum', a repository of the best - and the worst - of the Ring of Flame. (While able to post here, be careful that what you say here is what you intend to say - editing has been disabled.)' Also on January the 4th, Sgt Sord started KolSurvey, a sub-section of his KolView website that asked various questions to anyone willing to answer them. The survey ran until the 7th, and was semi-successful. On January the 5th, three new comics begun their Kol careers. The first was Familiar Quest - Episode 2, the second installment of Akatosh's popular franchise. A new issue is planned for every week and the thread can befound here. The second new comic was 'The Lounge', made by The_Editable_Wiki, this slightly confusing comic concerns a mysterious figures individuals within the lounge, it's thread is here. The third comic was The Game Over Comic, made by Plague, it was updated just abourt every day and therefore became quite big quite quickly. It's forum thread can be found here. On January the 6th, the Ring Of Flame had it's name changed AGAIN, this time to the Winter Quarters. It kept the description that it'd had as the Seekrit Squirrel Forum. It was still not possible to create new threads. Also on the 6th of January, familiar equipment was added for the Snowy Owl and Teddy Bear familiars, it dropped at the Cake-Shaped Arena and their descriptions/effects were: Pretty Predator Clawicure Kit (Snowy Owl) - This kit is designed to give your owl's talons that shiny, sharp, 'fresh from the salon' look. Just don't think too hard about how 'talon' and 'salon' are spelled almost identically, but don't rhyme. (+5lbs) Teddy Bear Sewing Kit (Teddy Bear) - This sewing kit is designed to be used by teddy bears. Since teddy bears have no opposable thumbs, or even articulated fingers, that's no mean feat. Your teddy bear can use this to reinforce his seams, therefore reducing the amount of stuffing that gets knocked out of him. Or, y'know, to embroider tough tattoos on himself. (Teddy Bear loses less stuffing when hit) Also on the 6th of January, a bug was fixed. The bug made the 'Summon Snowcones' skill appear on the list of skills to keep when you ascended, this was wrong as the skill became permanent as soon as you used the tome. Also on the 6th of January, a meetup was held in New York. Blank White Cards was played, as was Fluxx and Munchkin. This was the precursor to another meetup that was planned for the 8th of January. Those in attendance were Memnarch6, Mai, Popcorn Insane, Arkohn, A Naked Jew, Iridina, Zakain, Jadetraveler, Monkeh and Nnff_Firebird. The thread for this meetup can be found here. On January the 7th, a one-day ascension was completed by a relatively new player named Smurty (#639035), it was later revealed that a bug had been exploited to complete the ascension and the result was therefore, not legitimate. Also on the 7th of January, another ascension-related bug was found, and fixed. The bug denied newly ascended players access to their pulls from Hagnk's and daily summons. If you had this problem in effect whilst the bug was fixed, you needed to log out and back in again to see it fixed. Also on the 7th of January, a bug was found that allowed unlimited castings of the Smile Of Mr. A, provided you had available MP, the bug was silently fixed before rollover on January the 8th. Also on the 7th of January, Version 6.3 of KolMafia, the first of 2006, was released. The newest version of the client could be downloaded here.Whereas information on the changes could be foundhere. On January the 8th, the second New York meetup, the follow-up to the one on the 6th, occured. In attendance this time were Memnarch06, Mai, Popcorn Insane, A Naked Jew, Arkohn, and LotsofGoats. Apples to apples was played and bowling was done, supposedly. The thread, once again, is located here. On the 9th of January, Display Cases were changed so that you could have 37 shelves instead of 11. Initially there was a bug that still restricted you having more than 11, but it was soon fixed. Also on January the 9th, a Kol podcast entitled 'Kol Underground' was started by The Legend Slayer . The thread for the podcast can be found here. For those who do not already know, a podcast is a recorded radio show that can be saved onto a computer/MP3 Player/etc. On January the 10th, St. Sneaky Pete's Day was celebrated again, there was no new content for the main event, but on January the 11th, players who had helped the Soronity Orcs found a Green Traffic Cone in their inventory. On January the 11th, there were a bunch of server troubles at around 1.00pm GMT. Information can be found in this forum thread. On January the 12th, and undocumented change was added to the game. In PvP, a line was added that tells you how long ago it was since your last PvP fight. Also on the 12th of January, the Haiku Challenge was made to be operational. Supposedly, the challenge had been inaccessible since the new servers were put into use. The Haiku Challenge, for those who don't know, is a series of adventures in the Haiku Dungeon that if done correctly, rewards you with access to the /haiku chat channel. Also on the 12th of January, there was a change that can be explained much better through Jick's words: 'The queues that prevent you from seeing the same monsters and adventures have been altered such that logging back in does not clear them (so stop doing that.)' Also on the 12th of January, a new sub-section was added to the Miscellaneous section of the inventory. The (Mostly) Potions sub-section was made to house all of the items that give benefitive effects when used, they had previously all been found within the Miscellaneous Items sub-section. On the 13th of January, a la Friday the 13th. New content was added to the game in the form of unlucky win messages. All of them do nothing, and all of them refer to things you do not want to see on a Friday the 13th. . A black cat darts in front of you. . A murder of crows flies past in the sky. . After all that happens, you look down and notice a five-leaf clover. . Morty the Grave Digger passes by you. . You accidentally kick over a big can of salt that was sitting on the ground. . You discover yourself to be standing on a crack in the ground. . You hear a sickening *CRUNCH* as you accidentally step on a mirror on the ground. . You hear an owl hoot three times. . You look up and see a single magpie sitting in a tree, watching you with beady little eyes. . You notice a dead ladybug on the ground. You must have stepped on it during the fight. . You notice three chaos butterflies flying nearby. . You swagger away from the fight, directly under a ladder. Also on January the 13th, the Ring Of Flame came back in its full glory, whilst The Winter Quarters were made into a museum of the best RoF threads. The RoF also had a new description: 'This is where flamefest threads get sent. If you don't want to dignify such threads with your attention, don't go in here. Expect salty language and peppery insults. Be careful that what you say here is what you intend to say - editing has been disabled, so you are unable to edit your posts here. Think *before* you submit. Your words may come back to bite you and we will let them.' Also on January the 13th, Version 6.4 of KolMafia was released. It could be downloaded here, whilst notes on its new features could be found here. Also on January the 13th . An undocumented change was made to Aspirin, the item that had been found in everybody's Advent Calendar on the 13th of December. The item was moved from the Miscellaneous section of the inventory to the Consumables section. On January the 14th, a feature that was mistakingly available for a short time on January the 3rd, was made available. This incredibly useful feature allows you to choose a number of options from your account menu, and makes them doable by right clicking on a players name in chat. The options available are: . Send Message . Send Gift . Propose Trade . Buff . Mall Store . Display Case . View Familiars . /whois . /friend (Add to contact list) . /ignore (Add to ignore list) Official documentation was also written on this feature. 'A right-clicker is you! In your Account Menu, you can enable a custom right-click menu for chat. When enabled, you will be able to right click on someone's name in chat and pop up a small box with a multitude of helpful links, such as a link to the player's Mall store, or a link to send that player a message, or a link to add that player to your contact list. You can use the account menu to decide which of these items you want to see in your menu. Note: If you are using a Mac, and have a mouse which lacks a right mouse button, you may also enjoy the use of the custom right click menu by holding the CTRL button down when you click. This menu requires advanced features from your browser. As such, this feature may not work for everyone. As of this writing, the right click script has been confirmed to work on: * Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows 9x/NT/2k/XP * Firefox 1.5 for Mac OS 10.x and Windows 9x/NT/2k/XP The right click script will NOT work on the following browsers: * Safari 1.2 * Internet Explorer 5.x for Mac OS If you can confirm that the script works for you in a browser and operating system combination which is not on this list, please contact Xenophobe' Also on the 14th of January, Knob Goblin Steroids, Knob Goblin Love Potions and a bunch of candies were made multi-usable in the inventory. Also on the 14th of January . A meetup was held in somewhere called the Bay Area. Pizza eating and lounging around was done by all, all being Pristina, Mulvaney, Seldon, DeathSpot, Beelzebuddy, blackbeltduck, Sophinator, Old Ned, Divideby0, Destined_Desdemona, hamtaro86 and 2 others. On the 15th of January, a line was added to ascension histories that explained why some of them were missing, a poor idea, since it made them look even worse then what they were already. The text was as follows: 'Ascension Records for this period of time were lost in the Great Time Catastrophe' This content was later slightly improved to read the following: 'Ascension Records #] through # were lost in the Great Time Catastrophe.' Also on January the 15th, the right click menu function that was implemented on the 14th was expanded so that it worked in the Clan Membership Roster, Money-Making Game, Kmails and the Hall Of Records. Also on January the 15th, a new NPC was discovered. The Ghost Of The English Language was given ID #800, the level of Astral Spirit, favourite food and booze consumption of Breathetastic Premium Canned Air, a Fez Of Etymology, an Accordion Thief tattoo and a start date of April the 23, 1616. He is the seventh recorded NPC, with the others being Don Pygoscelis, Oyabun, Suspicious-Looking Guy, Toot Oriole, Uncle Crimbo and Cristobal Colon. On the 16th of January, it was discovered for the first time that there was a special message for the number 37, unlike the number 11, it did not show up in all places. 'In A Row?' On January the 17th, the right-click menu implemented a few days before was modified yet again to contain a link to ascension histories. Also on the 17th of January, the number of ascensions column in the Hall Of Records was finally made accurate again, it had been broken since the happenings of White Wednesday. Also on the 17th of January, the Casino Of Loathing was started, a site where you can play some alternatives to 50/50 bets. The site is found over here, whereas the thread can be found over here. Also on the 17th of January, Muymanwell started his Familiar Weight generator, a toll where your copy and paste your terrarium and are given the sum of all of your familiars weight. The tool is even good enough to remove 1lb familiars that do not count towards trophy totals. Thread, Tool. Also on the 17th of January, Oyster was celebrated for the fourth time within the kingdom. Theres way too much to cover in here, so I'll just provide you with a link to the respective page over at VisualWiki On January the 18th, a change was made to inventories that made items that you could not yet equip appear grey in colour and with a strikethrough on the [equip] option. This trivial change was well-recieved, making the game more user-friendly. On the 19th of January, Mushroom Plots were given a facelift. More on this to come. Also on January the 19th, clan war was given a minor modification. The list of clans to attack was changed to be first ordered by goodies and then ordered by alpha. My clan doesn't war, so I have no more information abt this point. Also on January the 19th, there was a major but short-lived bug that allowed players to eat and drink unlimited amounts. There were reports of players getting more than a thousand turns. It also made one-day ascension possible for a few moments, but it doesn't look like anyone managed to do that. On January the 20th, after six long months, the bonus of the 'Vole' zodiac sign was finally discovered. After long periods of testing, Babyscarface came to the conclusion that the sign doubled the chances of getting critical hits, something that he backed up with statistics. Also on the 20th of January, the Scandalously Skimpy Bikini was first noticed (by me anyway), it was a new custom item given to sassylassy, and was an accessory with an enchantment that allows four songs to be kept in the head instead of three. It's description refers to the song "Itsy-Bitsy Teenie-Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini". On January the 21st, Sgt Sord, creator of KolView, made a Kol Calendar and announced it on the forums, it was made so that you could add your own events, but in my opinion, the Visual Kol calendar is slightly better. Also on the 21st of January, Javascripts were found that took you to all sorts of places, including an Anti-Bounty Hunter were skins looked buyable, but couldn't be boughts, and access to the unimplemented Curious Monkey that gave you a banana for every 1000 items you gave him (though the 'banana' turned out to be a Seal-Clubbing Club) You can find out all about it over here. Xenophobe later removed access to these things. On January the 22nd, at Rollover, you could login whilst rollover was in motion, only being kicked from the game if you entered chat. This problem was fixed quickly, and the maintenance page was made to come up as usual. Also on the 22nd of January, it was first noticed in the forums that Certificates Of Participation became shiny and in the description, an extra line is added, if you've been to a Kolcon. It was later discovered that any player who had used one of the javascripts discovered on January the 21st had gotten a Shiny Certificate out of it. Left: Normal Certificate Right: Shiny Certificate Also on the 22nd of January, another custom item was given out. This time the recipient was Vida Londres, and it was given to her as an 18th birthday present. The Sombrero De Vida was a hat with a Moxie requirement of 10 and an enchantment that allowed four songs to be active instead of three, the same enchantment as Sassylassy's custom item. The description of the item refers to Vida's company, Facecard Productions. On January the 23rd, Dreamisle started My First Kingdom Of Loathing, a supposed "replacement" for the Kol when it is filtered or goes down foe rollover. Its hard to see the purpose of this tool, but you can find out about it over here. On the 24th of January, a new website was started. The Custom Item Database is a site that displays lots of fake items made by people that will never make it into the game. The site is excellently coded and has recieved a good response. You can find it over here. Or you can catch the thread over here. On January the 25th, it was made so that whenever you saif the word 'tinyurl' in chat, it was replaced by the word 'Nope', this is because tinyurl can contain bad content and moderators have no idea what is there. On January the 26th, Itznotzerzitz Mine (In Disguise) was changed into a Barrel Full of Barrels style format. It was made into a 6x6 grid and it was soon discovered that Ore could be best found near the top, Stone of eXtreme Power in the middle, and cave-ins all over the place, but mainly at the bottom. This change also saw the introduction of taking three of any ore to the Tra4pz0r and recieving the respective weapon. Also on the 26th of January, there was a small change that made the skills page start to remember which MP restorer you used last, though not across logins. Also on the 26th of January, an undocumented change was made to PvP that made the following image appear when you ran out of fights: On the 27th of January, the Hall Of Records was changed so that all known familiars had a chance of making the Familiar Boards, previously, there had been a few that hadn't. Also on Janaury the 27th, the account menu was split up into logical sections, like so: Chat Options: - Manage your contact / ignore lists - Change your name capitalization - Manage chat colors - Manage your chat macros - Turn on/off profanity filter Interface Options: - Enable Right Click Menu In Chat - Enable/Disable auto-attack - Toggle progress bars on left pane - Switch to compact mode - Change your time zone Profile Options: - Manage / view your tattoos - Manage avatars - Edit your Player Profile - Hide your familiars Miscellaneous Options: - Change your password - Drop Hardcore - Drop Path Also on January the 27th, there was a change to the Dungeons Of Doom potions, previously there had always been one potion that did nothing, but this was changed so that the potion that did nothing now gave a new effect, Object Detection, which increased item drops. Also on January the 27th, there was an undocumented change in the Demon Market that saw Cool Whip being reduced to 30 Meat and therefore being listed before Chewing-Gum-On-A-String. Also on January the 27th, a new comic was started in that forum we know as the Lair Of The Pretentious Artists, behold A Kol Of The Darwinian Sort by Moe Ron20 20. On January the 28th, Jick began advertising his guild in World Of Warcraft to the majorities. Information can be found over here. On January the 29th, a new comic was started in the artist's forum by Myracuulous, its called M-Power and you can find it in this direction. On January the 31st, Jeffery Duke started a new comic, Late 2 The Party was a four-frame comic that attracted early interest. It can be found somewhere over here. |
