Hearts are broken, dreams are crushed, and loved ones are forgotten. Often times we lack the words to describe the bitter lump swelling in our throat... but we know that its there. Still it waits... We hope for something more, a passion we lost long ago... or a warm touch we have yet to discover. When the sun shines and the air is crisp, we can forget the petty loneliness in our hearts. We remove ourselves by repeating the words... you are better... you deserve more. Sometimes we even believe it. But when the night is at its blackest, as cold rain hammers against stucco and glass, we curl into ourselves and take hold of the shivering flesh. We struggle for sleep, but find only the sad drone of our endless thoughts. Still it waits... We search the faces on every street. Looking for a companion to share ourselves with, familiar eyes who will understand. We believe they are out there. Waiting for us to turn that final lonely corner... where into their arms we will fall. It waits no more." In a small town much like yours, a young girl searches for a friend. Delia Monroe is intelligent, warm and confident. Despite a waning relationship with her father and a growingly hostile boyfriend, Delia tries to remain positive. Yet, even her strongest efforts can’t hide the fact that she needs a companion to help her navigate the murky waters of becoming a woman. Delia is happy to find Richard Burton, the friendly old man from around the corner, who treats her like an adult and enjoys a good conversation. Struggling to care for his ailing wife has left Richard in a desolate place... which Delia can easily identify with. But as their parallel personalities quickly bring them closer together, Delia soon learns that Richard’s problems go much deeper than she could have ever imagined.
