Ian is one of the rebal humans who are trying to keep away from the souls and living underground with Jeb and the other humans.  His brother is Kyle and when Wanderer came to the caves Kyle did not like the idea of having a soul in the caves.  Over time he fell in love with Wanderer.  Ian goes out of his way to protect Wanderer and insists to her that he loves her and not her body.  When Wanderer tried to kill herself, Ian got the chance to hold her in his hands and he told her that she was the most beautiful thing that he ever saw.
