Who We Are
Several years ago, a small group of homeschooling parents met for the
purpose of discussing alternatives in education. After many meetings
and lots of idea sharing, it was agreed that an alternative type of
learning center would be a valuable asset to our families. Some of
those same families have joined together in the creation of a place
where students can come together to build a community of learning. The
Homeschool Zone is a true educational alternative, a democratic
community learning center.
The idea behind the Zone is to foster independent thinking, self-motivation and community among its' members. It is based on the premise that all children are natural learners. We have a place where children are fully supported to pursue any interest they have, in the manner they choose, and at their own pace. Any classes and other educational activities offered are setup based on the interests of the children and teens. Activities are geared primarily towards school age children. Parents too benefit from a common place to work and spend time with friends. The Zone is run democratically with students and parents having an equal say.
