+ Matthew Gray Gubler was born on March 9th, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nevada to John Gubler, an attorney, and Marilyn Kelch Gubler.
+ He graduated in 1998 from Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts, and from there started study at the University of California in Santa Cruz.
+ After two years in California, Gubler decided that if he ever wanted to become successful in the film business, he would have to study at a New York University film school. (He later graduated from Tisch School of the Arts in New York.) While in Manhattan, he was discovered by Barbara Pfister, who “saw in him a compilation of everything fashion designers and photographers look for: great looks and intelligence behind the eyes.” She cast him in a "Royal Tenenbaums"-type family layout for Kate Spade that ran in fashion magazines and Vanity Fair in the fall of 2002.
+ During this time, he was interning for Wes Anderson, the film director. Anderson encouraged him to audition for a part in The Life Aquatic, which he did, and was cast as the part of ‘Intern #1’. He was allowed to create a ‘Behind the Scenes’ mini-documentary, which several amateur critics have claimed was better then the film itself.
+ Gubler has also created several other short films, including 'Claude: A Symphony of Horrors' and 'The Cactus That Looked Just Like A Man', which was filmed on his mother's dude ranch. He has also directed a music video for the band WHIRLWIND HEAT.
+ Gubler currently is acting in a primetime television series, ‘Criminal Minds’, as Dr. Spencer Reid, and has a movie in the works titled 'The Great Buck Howard'.
He currently lives with his dog, Mallory, in New York. He also has an apartment in LA that he stays in during the filming for Criminal Minds.
