Endangered Species: The Grey Wolf

Extinction Rating

The Grey Wolf Is Considered endangered, but is of Least Concern

Biome/Community

Grey Wolves Generally live in forests where their prey can be found easily. They prefer to live in northern climates but have been found elsewhere, this is due to the fact that they are well suited for snow. They have also been known to inhabit grasslands where large herbivores can be found grazing. It is important that wherever they live shelter is easily available as they will need to build dens in order for reproduction to occur properly.

Trophic Level

Grey Wolves Are in the 3rd, 4th, and if applicable 5th Trophic Levels, and are usually the top predator

Nutrition Sources

Grey Wolves Get their nutrition from hunting for large herbivores as well as smaller ones and in some cases certain carnivores

Environmental Effects

Wolves are heavily dependant on their prey and so if environmental effects threaten their prey their population will drop significantly. Also Wolves usually live in packs and should they be broken apart due to their environment, their lifestyle will suffer as a result.
