On the 26t of February,
As Boromir lay dying on the foothills of Amon Hen, he gave one last, final
blast to the great horn he carried always at his side. The horn, now cloven,
is sent down the river, and brought to Denethor around the beginning of
March. Denethor consults the secret Palantir (which he has been;using for
a while now, although Sauron has been slowly corrupting;his mind, and his
visions) to see if his fears that Boromir is dead are really true. Sauron, having
no love of the hobbits, showed Denethor a skewed version of Boromir's death,
placing the guilt squarely upon the hobbits. The hobbits might be only a part
of a bigger plot, though. We need to investigate other members of the Fellowship,
too. Denethor have secretly had fears about this Aragorn whom people have
said could 'steal' the throne of Gondor. Denethor becomes enraged, and
is seeking vengeance. He dispatches some of his most loyal andwell-trained
guards on the Second of March under orders to travel to Amon Hen, investigate
the area, and find the halflings who were responsible for the death of his beloved
Boromir. The group leaves for Amon Hen, and arrives around the 10th of March.
After surveying the the area, and finding proof that Boromir has indeed been slain,
the trackers of the group pick up the trail of Frodo and Sam after a couple days
of searching, and have arrived at their current site on March 15th, the present day.
They have set up a small encampment of wagons and tents close to the Amon Din,
where it is suspected the hobbits have gone in to meet with contacts from Sauron.
With each step closer to Mordor, tracking the halflings, the Men only become more
convinced that what their Lord Denethor told them was true, these killers of Boromir
are working for Sauron. By the time Pippen arrives with Gandalf at Minas Tirith,
Denethor is no longer wholly sane or thinking clearly. Denethor's unstable mental
state combined with his fear of Gandalf hold back any evil intentions he carries
towards Pippen because of his experiences with the palantir. Denethor instead decides
to keep Pippen close, knighting him...Denethor's eventual suicide gets in the way
of any future ill plans he may have had for Pippen.
