The Goddess Garden

So here’s an interesting tidbit for you…kinda sad, but major kudos to you.

I was 37 when I started your class and I had never worn a tank top before.  I have a horrendous insecurity about my arms.  And in the beginning of your class I had dieted down to about 138 and still wore t-shirts (I weigh 155 now).  And even in all of my martial arts, aerobics instruction, and kickboxing I never showed my arms.  My mom is anorexic and so is my sister.  My lowest weight was in the low 90’s, I stopped weighing myself because I believed I was going to die. So you can see how deep this goes.  And I could NEVER show my arms…until I felt the love in your class.  I still have a hard time, but I focus on the positive and I’ve never been able to do that before…You have no idea how huge that is for me.

So how great of a teacher are YOU?!  Fricken awesome on so many levels.

I never imagined I'd dance again- Should have started this years ago- And to me, I really love the joyful, playful expression of being a woman that Burlesque brings out, as well as the history. In fact, I get very offended when the few friends I've told about the class refer to it as 'stripper/stripping'! It's so much more fun -and harmless- if you ask me. It's jazz, dancing, etc. (Ok, we take our bras off- whatever!!!) ha!
 
I look forward to it so much every week. And after every class I'm literally smiling the whole way home-

…as much as I dread being forced outside of my comfort zone, I am forever grateful to you for always guiding me a little further and further.  It’s been almost two years now and when I look back on how far I’ve come – with my comfort levels, it amazes me.  And it was just little exercise after little exercise that did it.  There’s a fine balance between too much and too little and you definitely have it.  Never in a million years would I have believed I could get in front of peers and do a little routine.  I know it’s stupid, but for the fear I’ve had of getting in front of people – you have NO idea how crippling it has been in my life.  I’ve changed jobs, quit school, all kinds of things to avoid doing what you’ve gotten me to do.  I YELLED at a clergyman who wanted me to get in front of his church.  I mean, come on!!!  And I just think you are such an amazing teacher and I never tell you really how much you mean to me.  But it’s just awesome that "H" got me to come to a class – a dance class no less.  And the fact that you can teach me to dance and in such a personable setting is amazing – know what I mean?  I think tribal is so intimate.  And it forces you to be intimate with women you might not otherwise be that way with and that is so hard.  So on so many levels THANK YOU.

K-Lee, You made me a fantastic bra last summer, which I wore to a student show in DC. Then you were kind enough to add more bling to it and alter it for me in December for another show. Well I wanted to let you know that I just performed in 4 shows this past weekend in Sahara Dance's big annual show in DC, Under a Desert Moon, in two tribal numbers and one cabaret number, wearing the bra in the tribal numbers, and I am so pleased with the bra and how it makes my costume look so fabulous that I wanted to share my excitement with you! I had so many dancers ask me - where did you get your bra? - and I told them about you.

I had quick costume changes in several of the shows and I was able to get in and out of my tribal gear without a problem, and I have to say that it was a lot easier for me with my bra-style bra than for some of the other dancers who had complicated bras that had to be tied in several places and they needed 2 people to help them get dressed!

The other "news" I wanted to share with you is that I got "promoted" from our Intro Tribal group into the student tribal troupe called Raks Caravan West. I am going to be dancing with them starting this summer. It's been something that I have been working towards for a year now, and I have to say that a lot of my confidence in performing comes from how I look in my costume, and the bra is a big part of that - especially for someone of my size, when it is difficult for me to find even a normal everyday bra that fits! I think one of the reasons I was selected to join the student troupe is because I have "looked the part" at our shows - so I thank you so much for helping me with that!
