JUNE - Heather suggests reviewing the following website: www.dontxthelinecampaign.com
PAUL and DARRYL met with Paul Holder......here are the discussion points ........
Paul suggested a change of project 'definition' title to; – 'Research and develop methods to achieve acceptable and respected standards of adult behaviour in youth grassroots football'.
Paul felt this would give us a much 'wider scope' as we could target how the adult behaviour of referees/officials, coaches, spectators/parents and role models influence youth players.
Paul felt that you are constricted when looking at adult behaviour in adult football because it mainly comes down to the fact that the players are not good enough and get frustrated with themselves, with referees and with the opposition. This will never change. Paul also stated that by further changing rules and regulations you are only further constricting people to conform which will only alienate adults further.
If we look at standards of behaviour of adult referees, coaches, spectators/parents and role models and the impact these behaviours have on kids we can certainly come up with some really good suggestions for the FA. He also felt this would have further relevance to the FA...........
To consider:
Coach
- How they deal with children?
Referee
- How they speak to children? (Is there a Youth Development model in Referees courses)
Spectators/Parents
- How are children affected by pitch side behaviour
Role models
- How children are affected by professional game?
This can also be linked to the social history and culture of football in terms how people change behaviour when they put a football shirt on (badge, defensive, us against them).
