Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Flashpoint Interlude - Homecoming Issue 9
Years
before the current events in the early years of the Mandalorian Wars,
Lady Kryndai is arriving home on Coruscant and meets with 9BD, a droid
who is a caretaker of the house and of a baby Lucien Draay. When 9BD
informs Lady Kyndai that Lucien had no idea his mother was returning,
Kyndai shows disappointment.
Back in the present day on
Coruscant, Master Lucein approaches the Draay Estate to be greeted at
the door by 9BD. When Lucien asks about his mother, 9BD tells him that
he must check with the household first. The the door closed on his
face, Lucien walks away.
As Lucien approaches the speeder, he is
informed that the Republic doesn't have the resources to spare on
finding Zayne Carrick. Lucien immediately calls the Administrator to
get the resources.
At this time, 9BD returns telling Lucien that
he will be contacted when the household is ready to speak with
him. Q'anilia says she is disappointed that Lady Kryndai wouldn't want
to see her, and then quickly corrects herself to say us.
Now 30
years before the current period, a young Lucien Draay stands in the
shadows as another Jedi tries to get Lady Kryndai to see about training
new seers bue to all the seers killed in the Sith War. Feeling that
this one is special, Lady Kryndai is introduced to Q'anilia and agrees
to train her, with a stone staring Lucien in the shadows still.
Back
on present day Coruscant, at the Jedi High Council, the Council is in
session scolding a cloaked figure about taking other young Jedi to
Suurja to be captured and getting involved with the Mandalorians.
As
the cloaked figure exits the Council chamber, Lucien is outside with
the other masters of Taris. Lucien exchanges words with the cloaked
figure. The cloaked figure eludes to a darkness stiring and tells the
others that he has learners to save.
Once more to 25 years
before the current period, a young teenaged Lucien confronts his mother
about being trained as a Jedi by a real Jedi, saying that Haazen is all
right but just a fallen Jedi. Lady Kryndai tells her son that he can't
see the way Miraluka and herself can see. She also tells Lucien that
he's too much like his father, who was a great Jedi warrior killed in
the Sith War. Before Lucien's mother dismisses him, she talks about
how no one was able to foresee the evil in Exar Kun, which would have
saved Lucien's father, Lady Kyrndai's sister, and Master Vodo. Lucien
immediately runs into his Jedi instructor, Haazen, as he walks away
from his mother. Haazen tells Lucien that his mother is a great Jedi,
and Lucien will never understand her until he understands her mission.
Back
in the Jedi High Counicl chambers in the present day, Lucien and the
others from Taris are told about their failure to protect their
padawans. Lucien admits to killing the padawan by not seeing the dark
side touching his apprentice, Zayne Carrick. Lucien tells that COuncil
not to worry about the Mandalorians but the Sith alone, which means
putting all resources into finding Zayne and his allies, the Masters of
Taris leading the search.
The Jedi High Council, upon stating
that they are disappointed with the work with the Masters of Taris,
decides to split them up, sending them on their own missions. Although
Raana, a Togruta, expresses his disapprovment but the Council will hear
none of it.
Outside, Lucien and the other four masters discuss
the failures of the Council and decide to stick with their own covenant
and not give up on finding Zayne. After Raana hands Lucien something
about a project and dancing with the dark side, Lucien receives a
message from the Draay Estate.
Now 20 years before the current
period, Lucien shows his combat skills as he duels the seers trained by
his mother. When Lady Kryndai appears to stop the fight and scolds
Haazen in allowing this to happen. Haazen quickly says that he just
wanted to demonstarate Lucien's skills and seeking to be allowed into
the Jedi Order. Lady Kryndai then states that this group of seers is
the one she's foreseen and Haazen says he'll start making the
preparations. But before Haazen leaves, he adds that the Jedi seers
could use some added protection, eluding to Lucien being perfect for
the job.
At the Draay Estate on present day Coruscant, Lucein
arrives to a darken area where he meets with Haazen. Haazen tells
Lucien of his disappointment, telling him to have brought the padawans
directly to Coruscant but Lucien defends himself by saying he had to do
with the conditions he was in. Haazen tells Lucien to bring Zayne to
him alive, but Lucien wants Zayne dead as quickly as possible. Haazen
tells Lucien that he knows of the risk involved with the covenant and
their goal, and that forces are all ready in motion for Lucien to bring
Zayne before him. Lucien knows he isn't being told everything, but he
also knows that he hasn't told Haazen everything either. |

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Flashpoint Issues 7, 8, and 10
Vanquo
is a mining colony out on the edge of Republic space, on the edge of
where the Mandalorians are growing in strength and threatening.
One
night, two guardsmen find a refugee running around the camp. The
guards decide to let the refugee have some food when an alarm
buzzes. Master Q'anilia appears and says that the other side of the
planet has fallen under Mandalorian attacks and not going to make
it. With some Force persuasion from the refugee and from an attack on
the mining base, the guards quickly flee the area and the planet.
It
turns out that the refugee was Zayne Carrick, Master Q'anilia is being
impersonated by Jarael using Zayne's lightsaber, and the attack outside
was from Elbee, thinking that his traitorous master, Jedi Master
Lucien, was inside. The team had done this to take the food and
survival gear saved up at the mining base.
Upon gathering
everything together, it turns out the Mandalorians are actually
attacking and decided to drop right on top of the mining base. Jarael,
who was still playing with the lightsaber, is quickly surrounded by
Mandalorians and detained by them. The others quickly run back towards
their ship, with many Mandalorians in pursuit. But when the team gets
to the ship, one Mandalorian gets onboard and starts to take
off. Zayne and the others do get on the ship and beat the Mandalorian
back as they take off.
In orbit, Mand'alor coordinates the
battle and is pleased to see the Republic fleet out maneuvered, opening
a clear path all the way to Taris. As for the Republic, Captain Karath
is helping oversee the battle when he is told about the Last Resort, the last known ship carrying Zayne Carrick, the Jedi
Padawan killer. Before Karath can get the ship, it jumps to hyperspace
toward Mandalorian space, making Karath conclude that Zayne Carrick was
a Mandilorian operative and he states that he will deal with Zayne
personally later.
Onboard the Last Resort, Zayne tries to
get the Mandalorian to talk, but the soldier just refuses. However,
when he hears that the ship is pursuing Jarael, the Mandalorian decides
to cooperate. He tells the others that the ship is heading for
Flashpoint, a research facility lead by Demagol, a Mandalorian
biologist who is trying to learn all he can about the Jedi from
captured Jedi. Since Jarael was using a lightsaber, they assumed she
was a Jedi.
The Mandalorian, who reveals his name as Rohlan
Dyre, is a so-called deserter. He was confused as to why the
Mandalorians, who usually go headfirst into a fight, suddenly started
to tempt the Republic, the most powerful government in the galaxy, into
confrontation. When Rohlan asked about it, he didn't receive an answer
and decided not to respond when his next order came down. For being a
deserter, by Mandalorian culture, Rohlan was sent to the front lines of
the most dangerous place to either fight or die; that place turned out
to be Vanquo.
Rohlan also tells that the direct confrontation on
Vanquo was caused by the unrest on Taris ever since the Jedi Padawan
massacre. With the unrest, Mandalore saw this as the time to take the
planet, the key to the sector and a big slap in the face for the
Republic.
At Flashpoint, Jarael meets other Jedi including
Squint, all ambushed at Suurja. Jarael watches as Squint is taken back
into Demagol's research area to try and unlock the secrets of the Jedi.
When
the Last Resort arrives at Flashpoint, Rohlan gets the ship
landed and searched. Rohlan leads Zayne down as a Jedi prisoner from
Vanquo while Gryph and Camper go into hiding on borad.
When it
comes time for Jarael's "appointment," Rohlan leads Zayne in and
convinces Demagol to look at Zayne next. Before Demagol can start
experimenting on Zayne in his lab, Rohlan and Zayne beat Demapol back.
Rohlan
and Zayne, now dressed as Demagol who's knocked out in a closet, head
out and start setting up their escape. While Rohlan talks to the
Mandalorians on guard, Zayne uses the Force to place mines at key
locations around the solar shield generator. With the mines placed and
the help of Gryph, Flashpoint Station falls into chaos.
Rohlan
directs the Mandalorians to escape, leaving the planet just for the
captured Jedi and Zayne's team. Before they all go their own ways,
Squint talks to Zayne, trying once more to get him to come and join the
Jedi to fight the Mandalorians, but Zayne once again turns him
down. Zayne also mentions to Squint that regardless of what he hears
about Zayne, to remember what he did here; Squint agrees.
And as
the Jedi go one way and Zayne and company go another, Rohlan sneaks off
the Jedi ship and stows away on the Last Resort hiding, seeming
to go where ever the Last Resort goes |

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: Commencement Issues #0-6
On
Taris in the year 3,964 BBY, Marn Hierogryph, Gryph for short, a boar
looking Snivvian, tries to buy some Republic issued blaster packs from
a masked salesman, and Gryph informs the salesman of planning to resell
them to make a profit. With this, the masked salesman turns out to be
Zayne Carrick, a Jedi Padawan on the planet who's been after Gryph for
some time. However, due to Zayne's clumsiness, Gryph gets away when
Zayne's speeder, which Zayne is stuck to, takes off.
A Jedi
named Squint helps Zayne and tells him that other Jedi are passing
through the system to head to the front lines of the Mandalorian
Wars. Squint talks to Zayne about the Jedi involvement, but Zayne
tells him that the Jedi on Taris don't believe the Jedi should get
involved with the conflict. Squint tells him to be ready for wherever
Zayne's journey takes him.
As the visiting Jedi depart,
Q'Anilia, a Miraluka Jedi Master on the Taris Jedi Council, has a
vision where things have changed and Lucien, the head Jedi Master on
Taris and the Master of Zayne, says that they'll have to move up their
plans.
Once again, Gryph goes to make a deal in daylight, but
Zayne intervenes, poorly once more, and falls through the sky scrapers
of Taris as Gryph gets away. Zayne comes crashing into his Masters'
presence and is reminded of the banquet that he was supposed to
attend. As the Masters finish scolding Zayne, Zayne talks with fellow
padawans Shad and Shiel who tell Zayne that he could become a Jedi
because of the war with the Mandalorians.
That night, when the
ceremony to announce who will become Jedi, a ceremony Zayne is expected
to attend, Zayne runs into Gryph once again and even gets him. Zayne
realizes shortly thereafter that he was supposed to attend the ceremony
and races there. When he arrives, however, he runs in on his master,
Lucien, and the four other Masters standing over the bodies of the
other Padawans.
In shock, Zayne takes off and is pursued by the
Masters. Zayne jumps back into the speeder with Gryph and they take
off into the Undercity where Zayne and Gryph lose the Jedi Masters.
In
the Undercity of Taris, Zayne and Gryph come to terms with each other
and decide to get through this together, especially when it is
announced all over Taris that Zayne and Gryph are wanted for the
murders of the Jedi Padawans.
Zayne and Gryph decide to get off
world, fearing that it won't be long before the bounty hunters come
looking for them. In order to get offworld and retrace the steps that
lead Zayne to his current predicament, the two unlikely allies have to
travel deeper into the Undercity of Taris.
As Zayne and Gryph
work the Undercity, dodging all the Jedi Masters send their way, Gryph
leads them to Camper (old Arkanian male) and Jarael (young Arkanian
female). The two are hesitant to help Zayne and Gryph, but they're
forced into action when the Jedi Masters show up. In Camper's ship
Last Resort, Zayne and the others escape into space but face
mechanical problems and go into hiding.
Once things have quieted
around Taris for the time being, Zayne sneaks a message off to
Dantooine to Master Vandar declaring that he isn't the one who killed
the other Padawans. Vandar tells Zayne that because of his unique
connection with the Force, the dark side could really make it look like
the other Masters had killed the Padawans when Zayne actually had done
it. Zayne takes this hesitantly, however, and during the transmission,
Jarael knocks Zayne out and cuts transmission since the transmission
could expose the Last Resort location.
During all these
events, Zayne has been remembering one past lesson where the Jedi
Masters had the Padawans go to Taris's moon, the Rogue Moon, a place
that is constantly bombarded by asteroids and meteorites, and must find
their way back to the Masters. Back in the present and after dealing
with scuffles on the ship, Zayne gets everyone to head to the Rogue
Moon to see if something had happened that day that had caused the
current circumstances.
On the moon, Zayne remembers that a droid
that had been with the Masters, Elbee, had fallen off a cliff and had
crashed that same day, or at least that's what the Masters had told
them. Zayne and Jarael find the badly damaged Elbee right when the
Jedi Masters show up. The Last Resort comes in and rescues
Zayne, Jarael, and Elbee and move away from the Rogue Moon.
After
working on Elbee, Elbee shares the story that lead to his fall where he
watched as the Masters all had a vision when they tamped into the
Unifying Force. The vision showed the Masters fighting and dying in
conflicts that are caused by one of their Padawans. The Masters decide
to deal with the situation soon, and upon seeing Elbee nearby, Lucien
shoved the droid off the cliff.
After watching the video of the
Masters, a tractor beam is placed on the Last Resort. Gryph
negotiates with the bounty hunters on board where they'll let Gryph and
the others go (since Gryph gave them the codes to all his holdings on
Taris), but Zayne must be taken with the bounty hunters.
That
night, however, Zayne sneaks off the bounty hunters' ship and goes to
get back on the Last Resort but is intercepted by Jarael. Zayne
says he will just disappear and become a nobody, but Jarael points out
that Zayne has now dragged others into the picture and needs to
consider them before dealing with himself. Upon hearing those words,
Zayne states that he'll hand himself over to the Jedi Masters and let
his new friends continue to live.
Zayne is paraded to the
Masters, where Lucien reveals to Zayne that the other padawans had
grown suspicious at the circumstances and so the Masters had to act
before Zayne could show up. Lucien also says that all of Zayne's
friends in this conflict will also be dealt with for possible ripples
in the Force Zayne could have caused by involving them.
Lucien
raises his lightsaber and is ready to execute Zayne when the building
shakes from an explosion. Jarael, dressed in an astro suit, the same
suit the Masters saw would end the Jedi Order and the Republic, rescues
Zayne and they escape from the Masters when the Last Resort
swoops in with Gryph and Camper on board.
A few weeks past and
the Jedi Masters on Taris receive a holomessage from Zayne. Zayne says
he doesn't know if he'll become the Sith they foresaw or not, but that
he will fight for justice in the galaxy. Zayne concludes by saying to
Lucien and the others that if he does indeed cause the fall of the
Jedi, he wants Lucien to know one thing: "You started it." |
