August 28, 2007 The Dirtbombs will be playing at the Grand Opening of the Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan on September 7th. They hit the stage at 10; come at 7 for hors d'oeurves. Oh, and did I mention that this is a FREE party?
May 3, 2007 Sweet Chocolate Christ on a Whole Wheat Cracker! The Dirtbombs are releasing a new record! I'm not going to take the credit for finding out about it, I found out about it through Eric at the Dirtbombs Legion Myspace!
"The Dirtbombs are in the midst of recording a new album, currently scheduled for a September release. Originally it was going to be a 5-song, 12" release but it's been so long since a complete LP of original material, Mick and the gang decided to go all out and make a full record. It should be completed by July but we'll keep you updated (if we feel like it). The album is tentatively titled We Have You Surrounded. And guess what folks: There should be videos to go along with this new album. However, in case some of you have the following question, you should know that this will not be the much talked about bubblegum record." Oh LORD! Hopefully this means a new tour... I'll keep you posted!
May 2, 2007 May brings fun new things, like flowers and baby animals and stuff. But we've got something wonderfully delicious and that is Ko's new website!. She's got a couple great podcasts on there (with music from the Sights, the Come Ons, the Ponys, the Black Lips, and others), as well as podcasts that you can listen to on iTunes. And since I can't afford Sirius, this makes me pretty happy!
Also, since I do not have anything to do since I've moved to England and not been able to work, I am going to dedicate 15 minutes a day of my time to fixing this website. Dead links, old photos, nothing in the media section... BOO.
March 25, 2007 After less than a year on the air, WDET has made the decision to cut Night Train from its programming. Detroit listeners, be sure to tune in to 101.9 FM on Saturday the 31st for the final show, or stream it here.
September 23, 2006 A Dirtbombs Fans Forum Exclusive: The Dirtbombs will be featured on Biker Build-Off on the Dicovery Channel, Monday night at 9:00, Eastern Time. We were the first to be relayed the news, and we feel GREAT about it. ALSO, I decided that FINALLY fixing the reply buttons in the forum would be a good idea when I had someone reply to a post via the "Report a Post" feature. Not cool. They're kind of funny-looking right now, but I have a Microeconomics project to do, so I'll tweak them when I have free time. I'm also in the process of weeding through the links section. I will update when that is finished.
September 15, 2006 At long last, It Came From Detroit, a documentary about Detroit r'n'r premieres at the Detroit Institute of Arts in what is sure to be a great night for music aficionados. The Dirtbombs kick start the night with a free performance with admission into the museum amid Diego Rivera's painted court at 6:30. The film screens at 8 and will be followed by performances by the Witches and Outrageous Cherry. For the complete experience, come early and check out the exhibition of Annie Leibovitz?s rock and roll photography. Tickets for the film portion are $10 and are available online here.
August 23, 2006 In an awesome bit of press from Spin Magazine, the Dirtbombs ranked 10th place in a list of "The 25 Greatest Live Bands Now". The "argument-starting" list, which appears in the September issue, features two other Detroit-bred acts in the top 10: the White Stripes and Iggy and the Stooges.
August 2, 2006 89X Radio in Detroit is holding a Battle of the Bands in which the winner will get to record a 5 song EP with former Dirtbomb Jim Diamond in his Ghetto Recorders studio. Sought by bands the world over for Diamond's gritty production quality, Ghetto Recorders is said in local lore to have served as masked crimefighter the Green Hornet's hideout; now it serves as the Dirtbombs' home base.
Bands have until September 17th to submit their CDs, biography, and contact information. The songs will compete head to head on air as 89X listeners vote on their favorites. For more contest information, visit the 89X Radio website and click on the "I'm With the Band" link.
July 26, 2006 I know I haven't updated in forever and ever, but I really haven't been in the know about Dirtbombs news. In fact, this isn't even Dirtbombs news itself.
Mike O'Neill, one of the leaders of Tampa's local music, took his own life last Monday. Mike was an awesome person, amazing musician, and one of the few people I knew locally that admired Mick Collins as much as I do. His band, the Unrequited Loves, opened for the Dirtbombs and the Detroit Cobras in the past, and was one of the few local bands with some actual talent.
His death is a tradgedy that's hard for me to wrap my head around. But now, at least he's at peace with himself. Cheers, dude, we'll miss you...
Interview with Mick about his musical influences, in which he talks about nearly ditching a tour for Nina Simone and being the only kid on his block who liked the Sex Pistols, up at Jambands.com.
The film "Wayne County Rambin'" is now available on DVD, featuring Mick in the role of a voodoo spirit named Papa Ogou, alongside Iggy Pop and Nathaniel Mayer. Check it out at waynecountyrambin.com.
May 25, 2006 Detroit Public Radio is proud to welcome renowned musician Mick Collins to the WDET microphones with a new program, Night Train, that debuts on Saturday, June 3 from 7pm to 9pm. For music fans worldwide, Collins? work with The Gories, The Dirtbombs and other projects is the epitome of Detroit's rock and roll spirit. Collins brings his expansive knowledge of all genres and eras of music to WDET for the weekly musical journey, Night Train.
According to Collins, "Using the metaphor of a train journey, the basic idea behind the show is to give listeners four musical 'journeys,? some familiar and others not so familiar, consisting or either a genre or an artist (i.e., 'Tonight's stops: Exotica, Pere Ubu, Joe Williams, or Roberta Flack'), or a specific place and time (e.g. 'Detroit, 1961', or 'Philadelphia, 1971'), or even a concept ('Freedom Music' or 'Southern big-horn funk bands')."
Collins has been a fan of WDET for decades and credits many WDET music hosts past and present with helping him expand his musical knowledge and interests. His two-hour weekly program Night Train celebrates the long tradition of inspired, one-of-a-kind music programming on Detroit Public Radio.
(Ya'll got that? Remember, for the ultimate Saturday night Dirtbombs DJ fix you can tune into Ko's show afterward on Sirius at 11PM. -Lee)
April 28, 2006 Cass Records has the latest single from the Dirtbombs- a limited edition split with the Black Lips in which the Dirtbombs cover the Eurythmics' "Missionary Man".
