JUTSU

Hand seals are as important as Chakra in Naruto. All GenJutsu and NinJutsu need hand seals to be performed, but TaiJutsu doesn't because it simply needs no Chakra. The main function of a Hand Seal is similar to that of magic words. Instead of speaking of words to activate a spell, Hand Seals are used to activate the technique, and release all the gathered Chakra. Hand Seals stand out for animals, specifically the animals found in the Oriental Zodiac signs. That's why there are 12 seals, one for each of the 12 years found in Oriental zodiacs.

This is because if the hand seals in a NinJutsu are not performed correctly, the Chakra will be released wrong and a different effect will occur, probably failing the Jutsu. As a result, Hand Seals need a lot of concentration, which is why techniques in Naruto cannot be interrupted, or the technique will definately fail. In the lines below, we have gathered images of all of the most frequent hand seals.

The hand seals in the Naruto series are based off of the Oriental Zodiac system.

Nezumi (Rat)-O-ushi(Ox)

Tora (Tiger) -Usagi (Hare)

Ryu (Dragon) -Hebi (Serpent)

Saru (Monkey)- Tori (Bird)

Chakra

Chakra is the resulting form of energy produced when Physical and Spiritual energies are mixed together within the body. Then to use it, Hand Seals are performed. This allows the user to expel it out the body in the form of an attack, and requires different Hand Seals for different attacks. It takes time and lots of training to gradually build up and being able to control it. Too much chakra and it could result in a poorly executed justu.

Taijutsu is in fact the only justsu which does not require chakra but conclusively just your own experience from training, just hand to hand combat.

Chakra is the resulting form of energy when 2 other energies are mixed together, having those other 2 energies become more powerful, will in-turn make the Chakra more powerful.

Jutsu Guide

Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu vaguely refers to pretty much any technique that uses chakra and allows the user to do something that they otherwise would be incapable of doing. Unlike genjutsu, which makes the opponent see illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are quite real. Ninjutsu relies on chakra and, most of the time, hand seals to be effective. The hands are put in sequential positions that mold chakra in the necessary manner to perform a jutsu.

This is not always consistent, however, and some of the simpler jutsu seem to become second nature to experienced ninja, after which they can perform them at will. Additionally, some ninjutsu can be classified as an elemental jutsu, in those cases where a specific element (wind, water, fire, earth, lightning) is used.

Genjutsu

Genjutsu are techniques that use the chakra in the victim's nervous system to create illusions; an advanced intellectual ninjutsu. Those with special abilities like the Uchiha clan's Sharingan or those with high intelligence have an easier time executing genjutsu, since attention to detail is key. The most commonly seen genjutsu is the simple creation of phantasms causing the targeted person(s) to hear, see, smell, taste and/or feel sensations that are not actually there in order to manipulate them. In other words, genjutsu affects the five senses, though other applications of genjutsu exist. Those under the influence of genjutsu either freeze in place or lose consciousness, depending on how capable they are on recognizing and defending against it.

(the tree can be used in a gengutsu move) There are several ways to counter genjutsu. Because it uses the victim's own chakra against them, the target can cancel the genjutsu by disrupting their own chakra flow. This is called Genjutsu Cancel. Alternatively, should they fail to cancel the genjutsu, intense pain can snap them out of it. Finally, someone else can disrupt their chakra flow for them through physical contact. The level of a genjutsu determines the difficulty in breaking it.

Taijutsu

Taijutsu refers to any techniques involving the martial arts or the optimization of natural human abilities in general. In other words, taijutsu is executed by accessing the user's stamina directly, rather than converting the user's stamina to chakra in order to execute a ninjutsu or genjutsu technique, meaning that taijutsu is much quicker to execute than (though potentially not as powerful as) ninjutsu or genjutsu.

In some cases, chakra is used to enhance the techniques, particularly in the Hyuga clan's Gentle Fist style. Generally speaking, however, a taijutsu user rarely uses chakra in their attacks.

F¨±in jutsu are jutsu that 'seal' something inside objects or living beings.

Juin jutsu

Juin jutsu "cursed seal techniques" are jutsu that use a special 'cursed seal' to put someone under the control of the user.

Kekkei genkai

Kekkei Genkai are abilities passed down genetically in specific clans. Most clans have developed special jutsu related to their kekkei genkai (like Neji Hyuga's Eight Trigram Palms Heavenly Spin or Kimimaro Kaguya's Dance of the Seedling Fern).

Kekkei genkai and their related jutsu cannot be taught or copied by others, as they require the specific trait to work. Kekkei genkai abilities that work via the user's eye are called d¨­jutsu.

Sharingan

The Sharingan (Copy Wheel Eye) is a special type of eye that naturally appears in some of the members of the Uchiha clan. The Sharingan allows the user a number of abilities and is a dojutsu (pupil technique). One of the things Sharingan can do is that it can percieve and copy ninjutsu (ninja techniques), genjutsu (illusionary techniques), and taijutsu (hand-to-hand techniques) with perfect accuracy and allow the user to use the techniques,

Types of Sharingan

Sharingan with 1 Tomoe

This is type of Sharingan has 1 tomoe. It allows the user to perceive motions. An example of this was in the battle between Sasuke and Haku. Sasuke could see Haku's attacks coming.

Sharingan with 2 Tomoe

This is type of Sharingan has 2 tomoe. It allows the user to perceive motions as well as be able to copy the motions perceived. An example of this is when Sasuke was fighting Rock Lee. Since Sasuke was new at this at the time he wasn't that good at it, but he perceived Rock Lee's Taijutsu during his battle and copied it. Than later on during the Chuunin exam he should everyone that he could also use the Taijutsu because his Sharingan had perceived and copied it.

Sharingan with 3 Tomoe

This is type of Sharingan has 2 tomoe. It allows the user to perceive motions, copy the motions perceived, and predict motions. An example of this is during the fight between Sasuke and Naruto at the Valley of the End. Sasuke could perceive Naruto's motions, copy them, and than predict what Naruto was going to do next. Essentially, to Sasuke through use of his Sharingan, it looked like Naruto was going in slow motion that's why he could predict Naruto's next movement.

Sharingan in shape of a 3 Bladed Shuriken

Sasuke had this type of Sharingan in his battle with Naruto only briefly. The advantage of this type of Sharingan is unknown, but it is speculated that it takes the abilities to perceive motions, copy the motions perceived, and predict motions to a new level.

Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan

The Mangekyo Sharingan (translation: Kaleidoscope Copy Wheel Eye) is a heightened form of Sharingan which was once thought have been attainable only by members of the Uchiha clan, and even those who have the potential to obtain it must make a great sacrifice in order to obtain it - according to Itachi, they must kill their best friend. In the present, there are only two known people who can use the Mangekyo Sharingan: Itachi and Kakashi. According to Itachi, if his younger brother Sasuke obtained the Mangekyo, the number of people who could handle the Mangekyo Sharingan (including Itachi and Sasuke) would be three.

Using this type of Sharingan Itachi can create a mysterious and very powerful black fire, liek the one he used to escape from Jiraiya's inner frog mouth barrier. It also allows the use an illusion technique. Itachi looks into his opponent's eyes and cast a Genjutsu spell on them. This allows Itachi to have full control over space and time and can place his opponent to be in any world for as long as he wants. The technique itself only lasts a short while in reality, however, to the opponent it feels like an eternity. As far as we know, only Sasuke can overcome this technique because he is a pure Uchiha with the power of Sharingan..

Kakashi's Mangekyo Sharingan

It is somehow capable of creating an interdimensional space-time warp. Kakashi uses it to warp Deidara's right arm into a different dimension. He subsequently uses it again in Chapter 278 to counter Deidara's ultimate move, which would otherwise level the entire forest they were fighting in. However, the attack requires considerable effort to aim precisely and appears to leave Kakashi's chakra significantly drained: he collapses after using the technique three times.

Although this eye is labeled as Mangekyo Sharingan, it is not exactly the same as the version that Uchiha Itachi uses. The appearance of the pupil and tomoe differ from that of Itachi's. Kakashi's tomoe seem more like a pinwheel than a kaleidoscope. Before this was shown, it was thought that one had to have Uchiha blood and had to kill their best friend to acquire the Mangekyo Sharingan. Kakashi is not an Uchiha, and he stated long before developing his Mangekyo Sharingan that everyone close to him was already dead.

Fuuja Houin

Justu: Fuuinjutsu

Fuuja Houin, like the translation implies, is used to suppressed the cursed seal and other seal. The seal is able to prevent the cursed seal from activating on its own but can be over power by the person's will. Kakashi first write the seal using his blood around the body, perform several hand seals and pressed his hand against the cursed seal. The written seal will gradually enter the cursed seal to suppress it.

Fuuka Houin

Justu: Fuuinjutsu

Performer: Jiraiya

Hand Seal: Rat, Rooster (Bird), Tiger & then 1 palm hitting the ground.

Fuuka Houin is use to seal away nearby fire. Jiraiya would take out a small scroll and write seal symbols it. He would perfom several hand seals, causing the vapor from the scroll to appear and capture the surrounding fire and seal it within the scroll.

Fuukoku Houin

Justu: Fuuinjutsu

Type: Supplement

Performer: Sakon

Hand Seal: Clap 2 hands together

Fuukoku Houin is perform by the Sound Four. First they need a host to be seal in a container. They will draw blood to write some seal on a sealing paper. They then perfom several hand seals to seal the paper into the container.

Gogyou Fuuin

Performer: Orochimaru

Hand Seal: Rooster

Gogyou Fuuin is ultilized by Orochimaru to seal the 4 Season Seal (Kyuubi), given to him by the Fourth Hokage. The Five Elemental Sealer places the odd numbers on top of the even numbers, preventing Naruto from molding his normal chakra correctly. Also because of this, he unable to control or use the Kyuubi chakra. Orochimaru gave Naruto this seal during the 2nd stage of the Chuunin Exam. Only Sandaime and 3 Sannins can unseal the Gogyou Fuuin.

Gogyou Kaiin

Performer: Jiraiya

Hand Seal: None

Gogyou Kaiin is ultilized by Jiraiya to unseal the 5 Elemental Sealer, given to him by Orochimaru. It is perform by drawing chakra from 5 fingers and suppressing to unseal the odd and even numbers that prevented Naruto from molding his normal chakra correctly. The technique use is exactly like Orochimaru.

Hakke no Fuuin Shiki

Performer: Yondaime (Fourth) Hokage

Hand Seal: Unknonn

Hakke no Fuuin Shiki is ultilized by the Fourth Hokage who sealed the Kyuubi within Naruto shortly after his birth by Yondaime Hokage. The Fourth sealed the Kyuubi no Yoko (Nine-Tails Demon Fox) into Naruto and return gave up his life to save Konoha. It contain 2 Four Season Seal. The 8 Astronomical Seal System allow the Kyuubi chakra to leak out from the 4 Season Seal and allow Naruto to use its chakra. It is also done so to protect Naruto.

Shiki Fuujin

Performer: Yondaime (Fourth) Hokage, Sarutobi Sandime (Third) Hokage

Hand Seal: Snake (Serpent) - Pig (Boar) - Goat (Ram, Sheep) - Rabbit (Hare) - Dog - Rat - Rooster (Bird) - Horse - Snake (Serpent) & then clap 2 palms together.

Shiki Fuujin is the ability to seal anything through sacrifice. There is two variation for this technique. A perform first must call forth the Death God (Shinigami) using the proper hand seals. The user will sacrifice their life for the Death God (Shinigami) to use as a host. The soul of the user will be tied up in a cross and use as a sacrifice for the Death God (Shinigami). The user stick his hands inside the target's body and pull out his spirit, the whole body or just parts. If the whole body is pulled out, the Death God (Shinigami) will devour the spirit, killing the target, making the body disappear. If part of the body is pulled out, the Death God (Shinigami) will cut the part from the body and devour it, killing the part.

Shikoku Mujin

Justu: Fuuinjutsu

Performer: Sound Four (Jiroubou, Kidoumaru, Sakon, Tayuya)

Hand Seal: 2 Ninja clap 2 hands together & 2 Goat (Sheep, Ram)

Shikokou Mujin is utilize by the Sound Four. The formation seal will reduce the effect of the Seishingan Drug on the host. The Seishingan Drug will kill the host but the Shikokou Mujin will put the host into a persistent vegetative state in order for the cursed seal level 2 to take effect. 2 sounds four will clap 2 hands together while 2 sounds four will do Goat (Sheep, Ram) hand seal. All raise 2 hands in the air then 2 hands back on the ground.
