The Cowboy Years---a memoir

Pete Peterson didn’t set out from Brooklyn with dreams of becoming a cowboy. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Texas and some of the people he met changed all that. Ride along from Fort Hood, Texas, to Humble, on the outskirts of Houston, where it all began. He takes us to Mexico, Waco, Mansfield, Killeen, Bastrop, Temple, Belton and Copperas Cove, then onward north to Dallas and finally to Sherman, Texas. All these places are where he rode rodeo bulls, or bucking horses, while learning the cowboy ways. A true story, about real people. You’ll meet C.E. Henry, a horse trainer and calf roper, who put the young Yankee to his first test; Billy John McBryde, who taught him what friendship was all about; and “Mom” Tullos, the woman he considers the dictionary definition of Southern hospitality. Join Pete on the fun-filled route he took from Brooklyn to the broncs.
