For those of you back home, the mid summer festival is a national holiday here in Finland which kicks off the first weekend of summer. Not to mention the longest day of the year, which here in Finland, the sun stays up about 22 hours of the day right now. We decided to take part in the festival in Rauma which is a coastal city just north of Turku. As we kicked off our weekend on the Thursday night we didn't stop partying until late Sunday evening.
Take our word for it, this festival in Rauma is one of the biggest party's we have ever been to. With close to 100,000 people in attendance, many whom stay the entire weekend camping, we were baffled at how well the Fins can party!!!
Some themes of the weekend included: drinking, eating sausages, further drinking, checking out live concerts, camping, going to the beech, playing carny games, and taking a trip through the Jesus Bus.
Some sayings that we picked up along the way included: Tana iltana ei tuu pakkeja!!!!!! Which in english means....."I won't get rejected tonight!!!!"
If you ever run out of anything and need to borrow-drinks, food, BBQ fluid, just ask your neighbour and they will say- Of course!!!!!!!
The 2006 Eurovision winners from Finland- Lordi- a huge hit at the festival.....this was by far the biggest act of the festival and it was awesome!!!!!
Tik Tak- We didn't necessarily listen to their music but we enjoyed watching!!!!
Two football players sleeping in a single-man tent for three nights straight, no showers, one toothbrush short, having to visit the out-house daily that thousands of other drunks used.
And the party never stopped for 72 hours straight!
