The Call

To all my girls,

It has come to my attention that the Christian girls of this generation dress just the same as the ones of the world. The enemy is there. Satan has put us in a trap with peer pressure, TV, internet, billboards, and even our friends to dress immodestly.  By telling us that we aren’t “cool” if we don’t dress lie everyone else he has tripped us into a downward spiral of immodesty. We all know that God wants us to dress modestly, but our view of true modesty has been clouded.

Let’s look at it this way. If you want to win a battle you must know what your enemy’s weakness is. You must also know the battlefield well. To know a field well is to know where it is safe to walk and where it is dangerous.  I recently read the book “Every Young Man’s Battle.”  Although it was written for young men, it is an eye opener for young women as well. This book told me where the strengths and weaknesses of my Christian brothers lie.  It showed me the importance of modesty and doing all I can do to assist my brother to stay pure rather than cause him to sin.  As a young woman I knew that much of guy’s weakness is in what they see. I don’t plan to understand it, I just accept it.  I realize that the decisions I make when I get dressed in the morning will affect everyone around me, whether they are male or female.

That is why I am challenging all you young ladies to carefully examine yourselves (and your wardrobe.)  Are there articles of clothing that you would be ashamed to wear in front of Christ?  If you don’t know whether or not an article of clothing is acceptable or not, don’t wear it! If you can’t tell the difference, how will everyone else?  We are called to be an example to be an example to everyone, to throw off all that hinders and run the race!(Hebrews 12:1) If your clothes are a hindrance to your ministry, get rid of them! The Bible calls for not even a hint of immorality! (Ephesians 5:3) Think of it this way, that t-shirt that shows the tiniest sliver of skin when you lift your arms is a hint. Those low-rider jeans that show your back when you sit is a hint. There are so many ways to fix these problems! Wear higher jeans or longer t-shirts. I’m not telling you to wear your shirts to your knees, just wear a shirt that covers you! When you wear low-riders, make sure that your shirt is long enough to cover your back, even when you’re sitting, and wear a belt to keep them from sliding down too low.  There are plenty of clothes out there that are stylish without being immodest!

All I’m asking is that you ask yourself these questions “Am I saving myself for my future husband or showing myself to everyone? What is the motive behind my clothing?(why do I wear the things I do?) Am I helping my brother in Christ or being a hindrance to his purity. Am I making it easier or harder for him to remain pure?”  I want to challenge you to throw off all that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us!(Heb. 12:1b)  I want to make a covenant with you today if you are willing. Simply write down that you are choosing to remain pure by the way you dress and save yourself for the man God has chosen for you. Sign your name on the page and keep it somewhere special. Let’s make a change in the way our Christian girls dress! If you would do me the honor of sending this on to your friends and have them send it to their friends, we can together make a difference! I love you so much, and God loves you too!

The Next Step

Girls,

We are so proud of you for signing the covenant! Now that you have made this covenant with yourself and with God, you are ready for the next step - living it out. It's a LOT easier written on paper than implanted on your heart!

A lot of girls dress immodestly because they feel that they need to be loved and accepted. Well, listen up! If the King, the one who made you loves you and thinks you're beautiful, why in the world would you look anywhere else! People will always fail you, but God will always be there. This is one of our favorite verses around here:

PS 45:11 The king is enthralled by your beauty;

honor him, for he is your lord.  If the king thinks your beautiful, YOU ARE!

Now that you know that you are loved and you are beautiful, act like it! You need to be modest. Keep your body a secret for the special someone that you are marrying. It is so much more rewarding in the end! I heard this illustration a while back and I LOVE it. Here it is:

You've all seen the commercials for the Toyota pick up trucks on T.V., right? They are always available, always on sale. They are easy to get and they are cheap. When you get one of those, you are excited for a little while, and then it wears away. On the other hand, I'm sure you've heard of a Lamborghini. Those cars cost as much as a house! Do you ever see them advertised on T.V.? No! Because they are sought after in private dealerships by only the richest people. When you get one of those, you are excited every time you drive it! Now, which do you want to be? A Toyota or a Lamborghini? Be careful how you advertise yourselves, girls. If you chose to advertise cheaply, you won't get the buyer you are looking for. On the other hand, if you chose to act and conduct yourself in a manor that tells people that you're worth waiting for, you'll get the guy you want.

We're going to show you some guidelines on how you should dress. This is from experience and we're not trying to condemn anyone at all. You can still be cute and modest (by all means we DON'T want you to dress like you're 60!)

Shirts:

*Watch the neckline VERY carefully ladies! Try to avoid v-necks. If you wear one, make sure that it is high.

*Be careful about how tight it is. Tight shirts can be vary revealing!

*Steer clear of strapless shirts and spaghetti straps. Lasagna straps are fine : )

Shorts:

*Make sure your shorts have at least a 3 1/3 inch inseam. (A trick to measuring that is to use a credit card or a business card. They are the perfect length)

*Watch how low they are or how tight they are. You don't want to send the wrong message.

Pants:

*Again watch how tight or low they are.

*Be careful that you don't wear jeans that are too faded in the butt or thighs. A guy told me once that they make boys look there because it stands out.

Bathing Suits:

*Stick with one pieces or a REALLY long tankini. The less skin showing the better! Also, if you're up walking around, stick a pair of cute swim shorts over top.

Skirts:

*Make sure they aren't too tight or too faded (like the jeans) if they are jean.

*Try not to wear them to far above the knees. A dollar bill length from the knee should be the shortest.

This gives you the general idea. Those are some dress codes We've heard from various places that we think are appropriate. If you have any more ideas, let us know! purityteam@yahoo.com
