Perhaps you know me, perhaps you wandered here by accident...
I begin my actor training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in September 2006, and the aim of this page is to record my experiences in that time. The reason I've set this apart from my MySpace blogs is so that the information here will be publicly available to those interested in entering this part of the entertainment industry; and not to bore those uninterested in this side of my life. When I was auditioning I was unable to find any first-hand accounts of what life on an acting course entails, so now I'm in the position to comment, I thought I should.
Why 'The Boot Camp Diaries'?
When I applied for drama school I was constantly told that initially, the hours would be exhausting. Being an ex-gym bunny and veteran of long shifts at a TV station, I thought things would be fine. However, having received my 9am - 6pm timetable (not allowing for warming up in the morning), the first half of this term appeared to be nothing but physical and vocal classes. And an hour for lunch. So to preserve what little sanity I have left, I have chosen to attack the course like a soldier in training. As in keeping my head down and getting on with it. I've also spent quite a bit on all-black clothing for the course (I don't know where I'd be without eBay), and that's going to be my 'uniform' for the next three years - which again, is a bit soldier-y. At least they chose a flattering colour.
