In case you haven't heard of the anime Yu Yu Hakusho, here's a basic summary -
"Things seem to go from bad to worse for Yusuke Urameshi. All he wanted to do was go to school, especially since he hadn't been there for 10 days. Of course, he gets hassled by his only friend Keiko and the teachers don't help much. Ok, fine, he's considered one of the biggest bullies at school, but deep down he's not so bad. In fact, he does sacrifice his life to save a small boy.
Now Yusuke has a chance to return to the world of the living. Since there's always a catch with these things, he has to face a trial given to him by Koenma. Along the way, Yusuke learns more about the people closest to him. Little does he realize how badly he has misjudged Keiko and his long time rival, Kuwabara. He has to move quickly to get these two to watch over his body so he has something to return to!"

Yusuke Urameshi = The main character. He's a Spirit Detective, capturing wanted demons and doing tasks for Spirit World. After dying on the very first page, Yusuke comes back to life with a totally awesome ability - he can shoot energy out of his finger! This attack is called a 'Spirit Gun', and it can only be used once a day. But after training with a spirit energy master named Genkai, he has up to four shots per day!
Hiei Jaganshi = Hiei, the mystery man. He and Yusuke meet as enemies in the first volume, but as the series progresses, Hiei becomes a part of the gang. Though it is doubtful whether Hiei is always fighting for the good of his team or for himself, he is a strong ally and a formidable foe. This is one demon you don't want to cross!

Youko Kurama = Kurama, the beloved fox demon. He has the power to manipulate plants...His signature move is 'Rose Whip', where he transforms a rose into a long, thorny whip. Ouch! His best friend is Hiei, and the two are often seen together.
Kazuma Kuwabara = Say hello to Mr. Macho. Kuwabara loves to pose and is a very good streetfighter. He has the power to turn his spirit energy into a sword, which he uses to fight. He discovered the technique during what I call The Genkai Trials, where fighters were pitted against each other to become Genkai's student. Yusuke won the contest, but Kuwabara was a close second.
